do you mean tachometer? (Thats the engine speed.. it goes from like 0 -8, and turns red around 6.700)

If so, yes, when the car is off... it should be at 0

If car is on the tach will not be at zero. It will be at a very low RPM....

When the engine is idling, you should be at about 750 rpm (just under 1k)

it will jiggle a little while the engine is running, and it will sometimes dip down to 600rpm when the compressor kicks on every 1 minute or so

Also it might a bit higher when the engine is just started in the cold during the winter. Once warmed up the RPM will drop back down to the 750 mark mentioned above.

Ok. You tachometer should NOT be at 1000 rpm when you turn the engine off. Do you have any further symptoms other than the tach does not go down to 0? What kind of car do you have, year, make. Your in a 4G TL forum so I will assume that you own one. Correct me later if I am wrong. The manufacturer ships the unit with two fuses removed under the hood to conserve battery power when shipping. Dealer puts the fuses back in during dealer prep. If the fuses are still not installed by the dealer you will have a heck of alot of issues with either the interior lighting since that is one of the fuses. The other fuse goes to the combi meter (the part with the revometer in it) and the audio unit and HVAC ECU. Put the car in accessory 1 positon. If nothing lights up on the HVAC or audio LCD screens the fuses are still missing from thier slots.
