Replacing passenger side view mirror cover
Replacing passenger side view mirror cover
Hello -
The passenger side view mirror is scratch (couple inches) under the turn signal while pulling the car in to the garage. I ordered the part and surprisingly, it is not that expensive. 52 shipped and it comes painted.
Is there a write up on how to replace it. I did a search and only found how to replace the entire mirror. Can anyone please help me.
Thanks,
Abi.

potmilkz has the rudimentary run-down on the procedure nailed. The most involved part of the whole job is removing the interior door panel and even that isn't too mechanically demanding.
For your reference, here is how you would remove the interior door panel:
1) Push on the upper hook with the appropriate trim tool, then pull back the inner handle cap to remove it.
2) Remove the screws securing the inner handle.
3) Remove the door grip trim.
4) Remove the screw.
5) Release the hooks, and remove the front pull pocket cap, then remove the screw.
6) From under the armrest, pry out at the notch with the appropriate trim tool, and open the pocket cap, then remove the screw.
7) Remove the door panel with as little bending as possible to avoid creasing or breaking it.
Note: The inner handle cable and the latch cable are connected to the inner handle. Do not pull up the door panel too far, or these cables will be damaged.
8) While holding the door panel away from the door, detach the clips by pulling out the inner handle, then remove the inner handle from the door panel.
9) While holding the door panel away from the door, remove these items:

7) Remove the door panel with as little bending as possible to avoid creasing or breaking it.
- Start at the bottom edge of the door panel, detach the clips with a commercially available trim pad remover.
- Detach the remaining clips.
- Release the door panel from the metal clips attached to the door glass inner weatherstrip.
- Starting at the rear, pull out the door panel.
Note: The inner handle cable and the latch cable are connected to the inner handle. Do not pull up the door panel too far, or these cables will be damaged.

9) While holding the door panel away from the door, remove these items:
- Driver's door: Disconnect the driver's door wire harness connectors.
- Passenger's door: Detach the harness clip, then disconnect the power window switch connector and the courtesy light connector.

I know what you mean about the rattles. So far I have had a Honda Civic and this Acura TL and neither one has any rattles. Every once in a while I hear something only to find out that I have left something in one of the storage areas that is rattling.
I do have a vibration in the back from the sub woofer or rt hd side speaker. But only when I play certain music. (Lady GaGa)
Dealer said they would fix it but may have to leave the car for 2 days.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I consider myself pretty good at breaking things(esp the plastic tabs in the door panel). Any idea on how much would a dealership charge to replace it? I ordered the part, but having second thoughts on getting it installed(because of the labor charge). It is just a small scratch and could possibly be done with a touch-up paint.
