Removing the front grill and rear gray thing

Do any of you know if the front grill and rear gray thing can be
removed without removing the bumpers?

Also, do any of you know if the Nav screen is VGA?

There was a thread here last month about this. A couple guys were able to remove the front grill without removing the bumper but said it was a real pain and took several hours. I'm still hesistant to do it myself as I'm afraid of damaging the car.

The NAV is at least SVGA I think.

The Acura Navigation System10—the centerpiece of the TL Technology Package—is Acura’s most advanced navigation system yet. Now operated by a hard drive and viewed though a full VGA 8-inch screen, the system is faster, easier to read and more useful than ever before. - straight off the Acura TL website.

To answer your first question, . I have a 3G TL and and Acura designed them pretty much the same (as concerns getting to the grille and whatnot). You have to remove the bumpers in order to gain access. Hence, giving it one of the "leave it to the professionals" type outlook.

It's really not that hard to be honest, just time consuming.

I'm not sure about the nav screen.

If you do plan to make it a project of yours, refer to:
http://estore.honda.com/

There you will find guides pertaining to installation of the various exterior/interior parts, However, you could use them in reference to what you are trying to do. That's what I did... and do.

I am not sure that you can remove the smiley facefrom the back though. It looks to be part of the bumper. But I can definitely be wrong.

I thought this may be of some help to you.

Im planning on painting the smiley face and the grill's outer layer to match the color of my car, but I was quoted pretty high to do this because the shop claimed that taking off the bumpers are gonna make the job expensive. I guess I dont have a choice.

I was asking if the screen is VGA because Im thinking of getting the NAV
screen to play videos without having to install a carputer. Are there any
block diagrams and schematics online anywhere?

Did it really get THAT much harder over the years? Hard to believe that.

If they're going to paint it, why take off the bumper? ...why not just mask the surrounding area? My dealer only quoted me $200 for the job.....some other people got it done for free as part of the delivery deal.

The dealer that I bought from had them painted in the showroom and added $600 to the sticker price. I was at a bodyshop picking up my other car and asked about having it painted and he said 200-250. He is a very respectable shop and he we laughed at the $600 price.

Please do not listen to this fellow. I removed the front grill without removing the bumper. 3G and 4G are two DIFFERENT cars. I hate when people give incorrect information.

Here is a picture of the back of the front bumper. I took it off when I installed the factory aero kit. You can see where the screws hold the front grill. Enjoy.

I personally removed and reinstalled my front and rear pieces in december and did it in about an hour. It was a tight squeeze but can be done. If you are not brave of heart, take it past a body shop to have them do it. Search for the old thread about this topic.

And don't listen to the 3G people, they don't have a clue!

I wish the 3G people would stay in their section but they keep climbing over the fence...

Can we call INS or something? I love the one's that jump on the bandwagon's too, just to bash. Anyway, when the dealer had mine painted, they didn't put the back bumper lip back on right, it came loose after a month and when I showed them it was loose, they said they had to order another one, and have it painted, two weeks later it's finally right. Like the Doc says, it's not for the shady tree mechanic, so beware.

Hey bmode, do you have any pictures of from grill? I was thinking about getting mine painted too until RonJon comes out with his replacement grill. I was thinking just the front not the border of the grill.

You think the Acura dealer will do it for free if I call them and ask? I mean, I know I bought it already but I heard Acura dealers were willing to do it for free while trying to sell it..>.< probably not

I don't think the stealerships will do anything for free, but it's worth a shot? My apologies for the bad iPhone pics. This damn recession pushed back my new camera purchase.

A side note, this paint job is lack luster. My dealers sub contractor is pretty bad. Make sure you get a reputable paint shop to handle this. When it's done right, it looks fantastic on the CBP. Check out Dr. Evil's ride, he had it done by someone he trusts, and I might even have to reach out to him and find out who his guy is, because mine already has three chip mark areas by small rocks.

The CBP painted grill looks awesome, but
Im probably going to wait until the RonJon grills come out. Meanwhile
I was wondering how the car would look with just the front beak removed.
Im starting to get sick of people asking where the button is
for the car to transform.

TLC8888 - Thanks for the pic! Do you know if the gray piece in the back can
be removed like that as well?

Was this done without removing the bumpers?

Yeah, here's his photos.

Maybe you could ask him for a better pic? There was also another post where this guy was matching the grill dead on with little specs and all in the CBP. I can't seem to find it. Searching the forum is tough, there's so many mixed up threads etc...

I was able to lay under the car and reach up to remove the retaining snap-pins for the grill and carefully pry off the trunk piece. It was possible but it was tough, getting the pins back in was very difficult. In hind sight, I should have paid someone to do it.

So, save the cash and do it yourself or pay a bodyshop to pop the pieces off & on.

So the rear gray piece just pops out? There's no screws holding it from the inside?

Took my car into a friends body shop and they removed the frt grill so that I could have the center piece painted. To my surprise they then removed the center piece and put the remaining part of my grill back in my car. They are painting the center piece today and I still have the use of my vehicle. The time it took to take out the grill and center piece, then put the outside portion of the grill back on my car took 20 minutes. $200 job, that the dealer was doing for $600. Should have it back today.
