Red Calipers for 2012 TL
Red Calipers for 2012 TL
Has anyone seen any red calipers for a 2012 TL, or has done mods to it?
search the net and have yet to find anything, was thinking about buying an oem set and getting it power coated locally.
any ideas?
thanks

Red doesn't have to look bad, but on tiny stock calipers inside a big 18" wheel, don't think you're fooling anyone either.
Last time I took them off to paint them was on my Anthracite CL. I found a hammerite product that gave a wrinkle/hammered metal finish in a gunmetal/anthracite color.
I did four coats of this over the course of a day, and then did four coats of high-temp clear the next day. They turned out fantastic. They were subtle, but refined in appearance.

Those calipers look amazing. Any idea where I can get a set for my 2009 WDP TL Tech? I'm been thinking red, but black also looks studly. I have 20" matte black wheels on mine, so the black might get drawn out. Thoughts/Ideas/Comments?
I'd like to buy a new set of brakes and coil overs/shocks. I'm new to this, so please send help.

Thanks man!!!
Hey, its sprayed. I prepped it by rigorously brushing off all the rusted metal and air spraying it, then i cleaned it with steel wool, and sprayed with break cleaner. Then sanded it with fine grit wax. Applied 3 even coats and 2 clear coats.
lots of work but its clean and doesn't look too shabby!
Thanks! Wanted something clean and temporary till i find my BBK that i like

If I'm SOL with warranty, then I'll be getting mine painted black ASAP...
I just called my local dealer to see if they would replace the rusted calipers on my 2012 TL and they said no (which I figured) - but more interesting is that they told me painting them would void the warranty for the caliper itself.
I was of the impression from other posters that painting would NOT void the warranty.... That said, not sure how common replacing a caliper under warranty is, so it's probably a moot point anyway.
If I do paint them, I'll be doing them in black with no decal for my Graphite Luster TL.

^as long as you dont get paint on the piston it self.
the piston is the part that moves.
if paint were to get on it, it could seize resulting in a malfunction and the dealer could blame the paint for it.
I like to take off the mounting bracket.
and spray that.
the caliper itself can be "hung" from the control arms.
then cleaned with brake cleaner and a wire brush.
then you can take some high heat paint, and spray paint it.

Well, I painted mine red on a 2009 tl. I think it depends on the rims you have...I thought mine look good. Nevertheless, I traded in my car for the 2012 TL Tech. Surely, I will not paint my calipers again! It was painfully hard to do!
