Rear vents "low" airflow?

Just wondering how how your 4G TL's rear vents (on the back of the center storage bin) are compared to the front cabin's.

Mid 70s, hot and sunny today in Seattle, so I blew the A/C on near full blast; the vents in the front was blowing my face and hair like a hair blower. My 4 year old kid in the back was complaining of insufficient air, so I checked the rear vent flow. Lo and behold, I barely felt any air coming out, at least compared to the front. Even after adjusting the dial, the rear vent flow felt like it went from no air to barely a very low "puff."

Is this occurrence normal?

I noticed that as well, I thought mine was just messed up.
I took it apart when I replaced that bulb in there with a LED bulb, but still couldn't see why the big decrease.

The rear vents just assist the fronts. I dont have kids are rear Pax but if you want to cool the car fast blow the center vents toward the ceiling of the cabin where the hottest air is to cool that down quickest. The rear vents blowing on the child. If you want a cooler car my opinion woud be to get Hondas auto start or Vipers Keyless/autostart that uses you iPhone/Android phone. Just like GM's system you can unlock or start the car from anywhere. Even 4000 miles away if you wanted to.

Ya the rear vents suck for pushing air out. I thought there was something wrong too. I'm glad to hear it's normal.

I just checked the rear vents on my car, they are pushing out close to the same amount of air that the front vents are pushing out when I have the air turned all the way up. When it's on auto they are still pushing out a decent amount of air.

95% of the time no one sits in the back seat, but two weeks ago we drove from San Diego up to Disneyland and back, Wife was in the back and when I asked her if the air was OK, she said yes. Just went out and checked this out for myself and the air seems to be flowing quite well with the front fan set at 50%. At full speed, other then the noise, it also seems to be pushing a lot of air. mine is a 2010 SH-AWD Tech.. I assume others have the TECH package as well, that might be the difference?

Hmmmm....

I wonder what's going on here? My rear vents (to the best of my knowledge) hardly makes any noise and is very quiet. I checked again today, same thing, very little air coming out, and definitely a marked difference compared to the front's.

So far, it seems that 4 with the TECH package have low rear air flow, 2 with the TECH package have sufficient rear air flow.

More responses needed please!

Since the venting switchovers are not manual, they are electronic, try changing to feet or something else and back to full on blowing straight at you, maybe they vents internally that move to diffuse the air aren't all the way open and like in a home HVAC system, last register on a run gets the least amount of air. In this case, the rear vents.

Just an idea, this has happened to me before. Also, when running it at full speed, feel around your center console and see if any area is more cold than normal after running for a bit...good indication that the channels may have come undone. Last time I had mine open, I ran a screw into them to keep them together as they were just "clicked" into place.

to answer my own question i called the acura dealership and they said it's $902 + tax to install for one remote. you have to carry a second remote around in addition to your OEM fob. and you have to turn your engine off and back on when you get in. seems ridiculous that chevy can have an amazingly integrated system while acura cant seem to figure it out

Because of the distance away from the fan, you are not going to get the same air flow in the rear as the fronts. However my 09 TL has sufficient rear air flow. I think the rear more or less are there to help distribute air flow. The fronts by themselves can cool the car.

I have a 2010 SH AWD w/o tech. I just came back from a trip to FL and there was plenty of air flow in the back. It was 90 degrees out so it was plenty hot and took the car a little bit to cool down. I let one of the passengers drive and the other sit up front while I rested for a while in the back so I got a chance to check it out.

I checked a few things again yesterday. The on-off switch for the rear air moves from the bottom , off, to the top ON. Be sure to move it all the way so it snaps Locked in the full on position. I notice that the rear air responds more to temperature then fan speed. Setting the front temp to 70 deg, then move it to 65 deg and the rear air flow increases.. I also tinted my rear 3 windows and that helps to keep folks cooler in the rear.

I have a 2011 base and I too feel the air flow from the rear vents is weak. I previously have owned a 2003 TL and it blasted out of the rear vents. There is definitely a difference in the air flow. When the air is on though the center console gets very cold to the touch. I do wish the flow were as strong as the 03 was.
