Rear Door Closing Sounds Tinny

Curious if this is only my car, only 2012's, or all 4G's. Sometimes when you close the rear doors, they sound kind of hollow or tinny. Kind of cheap sounding. Not like the front doors which have the solid quiet thunk, if you know what I mean. I was kind of surprised to hear it when I bought the car.

Agree. The rear doors don't close with the solid thunk sound as the front doors.

acura saves money where they can. That's how they get a 35-45k vehicle to compete with much more expensive vehicles.

Dynamat is simply a name brand deadener... it's over priced, and over hyped. At the heart of the product it does what it was intended to do. It is a mass loading deadener which will lower the resonant frequency of the panel to which it adhered to.

However, there are other forms of deadener (thicker butyl based), liquid, ceramic, and closed foam type deadeners. All of theses have their own benefit, and excel depending on the particular use / application.

Generally speaking mass loading a panel, followed by an application of closed foam cell type deadening yields the best results.

I'm currently deadening SH-AWD #2 and will be using a combination of liquid, butyl, and closed foam.

The front doors don't have 30% of their potential mass missing for a wheel arch either.

Yeah, it's actually hard to find something to complain about with this car. Such a minor thing I can live with for sure.

You noticed that too? No your car isn't the only one that sounds like that. When we bought the 2010 I noticed the exact same thing.
My 97 4Runner and my 03 Maxima doors sound more solid when closing. Just confirmed what I've been saying for the last 15 years, they just don't build cars like they used to. Even Japanese cars....

I noticed the same thing. I thought maybe the power window assembly was broken or dangling the first time I shut the back door.

Well, this made me curious so I had to check. On my '12 TL Tech, the rear doors made a muted "thunk" sound, very similar to the fronts but at a slightly higher pitch, which you'd expect because the rear door is much smaller. Not tinny at all. Weird that there'd be any difference from one sample to another.

Same here. The reason for my "up or down" question is that it might sound tinny when the windows are down.

The rear doors sound tinny hollow when the rear windows are UP, and the rear doors ALSO sound tinny hollow when the rear windows are DOWN.

In comparison, the front doors sound solidly "thunk" no matter the front windows are in whatever positions.

The 2010/11 loaner car I had this was very noticable. Not so much on the 2012 so I suspect they put some more sound deadening material in the 2012's. Not a scientific conclusion just my observation.
