Random Thought about trading in the TL...opinions?

Hey Guys,

I love my TL, but have recently gotten the itch again......it's a disase that i can't shake.

I'm toying around with the idea of going for a new 2014 Infiniti Q50S, or the new 2014 Lexus IS350 FSport..

The one big negative aspect to this idea is no Manual Transmission............but my wife can't drive stick, and sometimes it's an inconvenience for us when she can't drive eachother car.

Thoughts and opinions are welcome......

Difficult choice as both are great cars. I haven't really looked into the IS350 much but the Q50 is an all around nice car. A lot of features for the money. Only negative about Infinitis are the resale value. A Lexus hold their value much better. So that's something you need to consider. I'm w/ Stew though, look into the GS-F! It's on a higher tier price range!

Yup, I hear ya. My wife has a RX330 and she can't stick, definite inconvenience since she can't drive stick (or rather, doesn't want to). If we take my TL on trips, I'm stuck driving it, rendering me excessively tired. So usually for longer trips we take her car.

I've come to the conclusion, for married guys (or gals) whose spouse cannot stick, the married stick shift lover needs to have 2 cars.

So for me personally since I decided that I MUST have a stick shift car the rest of my life, if I trade in the TL for an automatic, I would eventually trade in the automatic for a manual; the diseased habit repeats itself and continues to recycle all over again, costing us un-necessary $$. This has happened to me before when I had a Integra 5spMT which I sold.

My suggestion: Find a stick shift vehicle you love, be it the TL or another vehicle. KEEP that vehicle, and then purchase a 2nd car that is automatic. My personal long terms goals are for me to have a stick shift 911tt and an automatic CUV/hatchback.

Good advice!

That's why I got a 370Z 6MT for "stick" experience

And no matter what I say, she won't learn to drive stick

I looked at the IS350 too. However when you add the F-Sport option, you take away the following options:

1) memory seats
2) fog lights
3) cooled front seats
4) parking sensors

Same with the GS, you lose fog lights with the f-sport option but the rest on your list stays.

Ditto, Infiniti resale drops like a rock, you will be in it at least 3 years before break even if you do a 60 month loan and even then it could be 39-48. Once you get 48-60 Infiniti resale is on par with everyone else.

yea, i think it is a faux leather, which i can't understand why alot of manufactures are doing this. Even Mercedes & BMW do this with their Leatherette.

Yes -- leatherette. It's funny reading how the guys on Club Lexus are rationalizing NuLuxe as being better than leather -- on a $50K + car.

I drove a 2013 350 F-sport. Quick as all get out -- makes the SH-AWD ride comfy in comparison. Drove a 2014 IS250 -- very nice car but the mouse pad will drive people crazy & 204hp sucks. However, a really well made, sound proofed car with quality materials in all of the right places. They are coming out with a turbo 4 next year I think.

and by the way......i'd love the Lexus GS350 F-Sport, but then we are talking an extra $10-12k on top of IS & Q. Based on Canadian prices, the IS350 F-Sport premium pkg, RWD is $48,950. The Infiniti is $47,950. Both RWD platforms. Compared to the TL SH-AWD Elite (Advance) msrps in canada for $51,000 including freight etc. So as for price point, it's compareable. As for class of vehicle, not so much as the Q & Lexus are in the Sub-Compact category. I'm ok with going to an RWD platform rather than AWD next, because i like the way the suspension sits better (looks slighly lower), and i figure with snow tires i'll be fine. On really bad days, i can always drive the Maxima. FWD with Snows would be better.

Since we are on the leatherette topic, just to point out that the RLX comes standard with leatherette also. It's the flagship model.

No offense to anyone, just to be fair

I've sat in a F-Sport and really loved the seats. Couldn't tell the difference between leatherette and leather though.

^^^ artificial leather is not breathable though so sweat can build up over time. But at least it will keep the car seats looking brand new!

I cant get past how terrible the new IS is from lexus, who thought that rearend and side skirts looked good? The Q50 on the other hand looks incredible. I personally think youre nuts for looking for a new car when youre driving a 2012, unless you really hate the car.

Beauty is truly in the eyes of the beholder

I don't think the IS is a step up but that is my opinion.

I'm on the same boat with having a manual transmission. My wife learned on my 2008 G37S coupe when we first started dating, and she is able to drive one. However, its the same argument every time because she just doesn't want to. Some people would rather use their right hand for texting/facebook/eating instead of paying attention I guess.

My current 2012 G37 sedan lease is ending in December, and I really don't want to go back to an automatic, so the Q50 may be out of the picture. Hopefully I can score a screaming deal on the 6MT SH-AWD model at end of the year. Like December 31st end of the year :-)

I like that the front end looks lower than the rear and gives it that aggressive stance we tried for we I was a kid.

The car looks better in person. I was looking at one while at the dealer last week. The F-Sport version looks badass IMO.

It does -- it really does. I'm going to hold out to see what the Q50 looks like. I really wanted Acura to step up to the plate with a new design based on an evolution of the 3G. Kind of a mea culpa. Every time I see a 3G I think what a beautiful car. But it seems they'll do that they did with the RDX and the MDX -- soften it up a bit -- make it a bit more lumpy.

I really fell for the GS350 F-Sport
