Yeah, the chances of a V8 is extrememly remote at best. Many automakers are already slowly but surely abandoning V8 engines. Nowdays modified V6's and some hybrids already deliver V8-like power with much better fuel efficiency. Even if a V8 does miraculously show up sometime in the future, it will only be available on the RL or its possible replacement. However, Acura announced sometime ago that it was not in a horsepower race and was instead, firmly invested in green and alternative power technology. I'd say the chances are much better for a hybrid TL to show up down the road....maybe as soon as 2012-13.

You'll see a TL wagon before a TL V8 if current Honda trends hold true...lol.

If Acura would just stop being pussies and stuff a high-output K23 with SH-AWD in the TSX with a DSG type transmission we could cheer Acura on.

But yeah this review was spot on, and no these aren't all true competitors, but Acura swears so hard that they are. LOL

That's the order in which I'd take those cars.

Honda is likely to start applying the "performance hybrid" mindset to Acura instead of a V-8. Basically they're gonna do what Lexus has been doing since the RX400h, or Honda's Accord Hybrid as well.

Honestly I wouldn't really mind as long as we don't get CVTs as part of the program.

I think it would be quite easy for Acura to take the existing 3.5 or 3.7L engine and mate it with a 70-80 hp electric motor and you could easily wind up with a 360-380 hp power plant that gives you excellent performance and fuel efficiency. They should be able to bring something like this to market for under $50K.

I truly wanted a Porsche Cayman Type S, still do...it wasn't practical, neither was the Camaro SS I was going to scoop up. So I shopped 4 doors from the VW CC to Benz E's to the Ford Taurus SHO. The Ford was just not me and freaking huge. True the TL is large but it felt right. I was pushing a 3.2 CL w/NAV 2G. The TL "Shawdy"... Wow, driving the damn thing is so enjoyable.

I think if Honda did it right, they could develop a V8 that could been tuned accordingly across the brand much like many other manufactures in order to spread out the costs. This V8 could be used and tuned accordingly to work in the TL, RL, MDX, Ridgeline etc etc.

A year ago i would agree with you about the 6AT in the TL and I hope it still happens as it desperately needs it. I wouldnt be surprised though if its introduced only in the RL in order to keep some technology separate from the TL in the Acura sedan lineup.
For the 6AT, that wouldn't be a wise decision since almost no RL are sold in Canada or so few anyway. Put the 6AT in the TL,TSX and every model. No car will be hurt with better acceleration and better fuel economy, don't you think...

For the 50k+ Acura in Canada, sales will be slow at that price point. Most canadian able to buy a 50k+ car are older and will look more towards MB, BMW, Lexus, Audis because of brand prestige...

I doubt that the AT crowd would find much use for a V8 in a TL, especially at a higher price point. The 6MT folks might like it but Honda is not going to offer a V8 just for the five per cent who want a stick. I think that the only Honda V8s we'll see in North America will be in IRL cars.

Agreed, but if Acura is going to put 6spd autos into the TSX, TL, and the rest of the model line-up, then they better do something, similar to Hyundai with the CVVT they did with the new Sonata I4, to improve fuel economy of their I4 and V6 engines! Acura needs something to get their mojo back and to brag about!

These 5spd autos are getting old and antiquated! I mean, the majority of their competition are onto 7 and 8 spd automatics now, while the majority of Acura's line-up is still 5-spd autos !

But it's a good 5 speed auto....not that I owned an 01 CL or anything (grrrr).

I would suspect a 7500 RPM 3 liter 4 cam V6 would attain the 300hp level with 250-260 ft/lbs of torque and potentially put down 30mpg highway in TL/Accord sized cars with cylinder shutdown.

Don't forget how old the J motor (and Nissan's VQ btw) are getting. Both are very long in the tooth. Just as the B motor gave way to the K - the J will give way to something better...I just wonder how much the time table has changed since the carpocolypse began...
