Question about "Trip A reset with refuel"
Hi all,
I have a 2012 TL SH Tech with 6 speed manual. The car is still new to me so I've only actually filled it with gas a couple of times.
The first time I recall that the TRIP A odometer reset with a fill up, but I don't recall if it did it immediately upon refuel, or a few minutes after I started driving.
Today when filling up, the meter did not reset once I started driving. I didn't give it a lot of time, but I just ended up resetting it manually as I was tracking my fuel economy between the gas station near my house and one by my work (just out of curiousity).
I did a search on this issue and couldn't find a definitive answer on how the system works or how it resets itself (i.e. when the gas gap is removed, etc.). Both times I filled the car until the pump shut off automatically.
Does it take a little bit of driving before the meter resets or should it be reset once the car is started after refueling?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Adam

It should reset within a minute or less of driving after you have put gas into it. It does not require a fill up.
There's a setting in the system that you can use to determine when the MPG MID resets. Perhaps yours is not set to reset after you add gas?

It is definitely set to reset. I likely didn't wait long enough, so I'll give it another shot and allow for a little more time.
I'm assuming that setting the parking brake before re-fueling would make no difference? This is the only other variable that I can think of.

Holy Sh.. i did not know that... I always reset mine manually.... I am telling ya, this car just keeps surprising me everyday.... Today, I was driving on the highway and before i knew it, I was touching 95 mph.... yikes.... Didnt realize that this car can get that fast that quick. Had to take my foot off the gas for a minute....

It has nothing to do with what gear your in, or starting the car. If you keep your eye on it, it resets once the wheels start rolling. Mine usually resets by the time i roll out and clear the gas pumps. The only thing that annoys me, is i wish i could reset only the L/100 (MPG) ONLY with out reseting the trip A. For some reason once your trip A resets, it resets the L/100 at the same time. Lets say for example, if i'm at a half a tank, and jump on the highway for a long haul, i would like to reset the MPG only, but if i do my TRIP also resets.

Does anyone know what could be causing this, or if there is a way to "reset" this system? Maybe I should try resetting back to the default settings?
Thanks

I don't know what the problem is, but I have only had it do that once where it did not reset very quickly. I think it is the one time I filled it that it already had about a third of a tank left - maybe even a little more. Like you, I reset it manually after maybe a quarter of a mile. I wondered if it was not low enough on gas to automatically reset, but I don't know. It's the only time it has done that in six months. I love the feature!

Jjs - you may be on to something. When I refueled yesterday before and after my drive to work the tank was not nearly empty - probably around a half tank when filled before my drive, and still at full (per the gauge) after my drive to work (I was curious to see how much gas a trip to the office takes).
When I filled the car the first time - when it worked - it was much closer to empty.
Can anyone confirm that thee tank needs to be closer to empty for this feature to work?
Thanks

the question is... are you filling up on a empty tank or 1/4 tank or half tank?
99% of the time.. if your on empty, it will load right when you turn on the car..
if your at half or quarter tank, then it will take some time to load, sometimes it wont even load at all.
ive figured that out with 17000 miles on my car lol..

Thanks! I'll report back once I burn through this tank!

So, I filled up once the light came on this time, and sure enough it reset once I rolled away from the pump.
Thanks for saving me an embarassing trip to the dealer.

the car only would recognize to reset once the light is on and you refill from my experience.
but can anyone confirm this?
or you can manually reset it if you chose to fill without light on

Mine resets regardless of the level in the tank when I refuel. It also does not matter if I fill the tank upon refueling.

Mine resets as soon as i roll away from the pump, regarless of how much gas was in the car prior to filling.

I just picked up a 2012 on Saturday but had this feature on my '09. It resets trip A no matter how low the tank is or how much fuel you put in. Also, to answer the changing of the mpg... It reset mpg in trip A but not trip B. Even when you turn over 10,000 miles on trip B and do not reset, it will continue to show you what your average mpg is since the last time you manually reset trip B.

I set the feature up on our 2012 and it works well, perhaps too well. I noticed the other day while we were on a trip that thing reset itself while carving up some back mountain roads. Initially I though it was a fluke or maybe during my spirited driving I accidently hit a button on the wheel, but the other day I was turning in to my neighborhood and saw the thing reset to 0.0 Trip A, with about 3/4 of a tank. ANyone else had random resets using this function?

My 2010 resets as soon as the car moves away from the pump. If you've noticed it reset by itself at any other time take it back to the dealer to get the electronics checked out.
For a real neat trip set your gauge to miles until empty while filling up. You'll see it rise as the tank gets full

I just bought a 2012 MDX with Advance and have noticed on 3 occasions that the trip A meter resets back to 0 even when I have gas in the tank (usually around half a tank) and have not opened the gas tank door. I have preset the computer to reset when I fill the tank but it is resetting even when I am not getting gas? Any answers to this problem?

an adult perspective
mine has always reset after pulling away from the gas pump ... and I have over 80,000 miles worth of fill-ups at this point in time. The only time it has reset itself is when I pulled the car up onto my RaceRamps to remove the factory beak and replace it with a painted unit. I attribute this 'one off' to the fact that the car had less than 1/4 of a tank of gas in it, and by pulling the car on and off the ramps, the float was tricked into believeing fuel had been added ... hence the reset.
