Purchasing an 4G Acura TL SH-AWD, is this a good buy?
Good morning to all,
I am on the search for the right Acura TL and came across another one that is closer to me which is 3 hours away its a 2012 Acura TL SH-AWD silver the dealership is asking for $16k with 85k miles on it. I know its not a great time to buy a car, but in need of a car for my family and I. No accidents, multiple owners. My question is this a good buy or should I pass it over?
Yes, I have seen the issues in the forms with the oil consumption, torque converter, and propeller shaft. I test drove one the other day and it was a 2012 Acura TL and it felt great but just had higher miles 138k and the dealer was asking for $11.7k. Any input would be appreciated from the community.

$16k sounds insane for that car, but yeah, awful time to buy anything used. I have a '12 SH-AWD Elite with about 130k miles on it and it's a good car aside from the oil consumption issue (had to have my whole engine rebuilt, under warranty thankfully). Speaking of consumption, these cars do not get good fuel economy and require that you use 91 octane, so if that's a concern you'd be wise to look elsewhere. Mine also had the whining prop shaft issue but I was able to get a super tiny grease needle in there and that solved the issue for now. It doesn't have a single rattle on the interior and the seats are very comfy for long highway drives.
At 85k miles but 9 years old, it may very well need the timing belt replaced simply due to the age (mileage suggestion for that is 105k, or 7 years' time). If you can deal with all of the above and it drives nicely, I say go for it if you can stomach that ridiculous price.

if its clean then yes buy it. i just bought mine 6 months and. Got the oil consumption test at Acura dealership. car failed and got a new engine under Acura 8 year 130k warranty for this issue.
make sure the transmission has been serviced and TCM has been updated, it shifts good.

Do not buy this junk, 4 owners and this car has been in accidents throughout its life, and according to carfax its price is no more than $14К

14k if it was in for the oil consumption repairs with paperwork to prove it and it's in mint condition. 4 owners is way too sketchy for a 2012. Usually only the manual transmissions fetch a premium

No, but pretty much. they install new Piston tops with rings, timing belt, water pump, tensioner. my engine also had some issue with camshaft like burs on intake valve for cylinder 3,5,6. so i got new camshafts, valve , rocker, valve seals. they covered all labor and bottom end parts. I only paid for cylinder head parts. came out little under $1000.

for my warranty oil consumption. they did not need any paperwork at all. all they did was change my oil reset my trip odometer, marked my oil drain bolt, and I drove it. when ever I got low on oil i went to them they checked it , noted and topped off. at 1000 miles. i was at 1.5l which is .500 over allowed consumption for 1000 miles.

The problem of oil consumption is not a common problem, it is the J37 engines that start to consume oil due to poor service. The only correct way to find out if oil is consumed or not is to unscrew the spark plug and see the condition of the piston and spark plug deposits.
