Paint - Bad Luck Continues
So unfortunately my bad luck regarding my paint job continues...
First, it was a factory defect that led to all metal surfaces being re-painted. Then it was a rock on the highway that shattered my sunroof and sent glass flying into my roof and trunk. Now, it's a mistake by a tinting company that resulted in scratches down to the metal on the trunk.
Fortunately the tinting company is taking full responsibility for it and covering the charges, but it's still an inconvenience overall. I will say though that I've never dealt with a business with such sound ethics. They couldn't stop apologizing and they're letting me get the work done at my preferred body shop...which just happens to be an Acura dealer. They could've easily denied it and moved on, like most other businesses probably would've.
I'm driving a loaner Nissan Sentra in the meantime and I don't think I've ever missed my TL more! I should be getting it back today fortunately. Even though I only dropped it off yesterday it feels like an eternity
So, in the 20 months I've owned this car...this is now the third time the trunk is being re-painted

Man, I remember the paint issues you've had since you got the car. Hoping it gets fixed... I know the feeling missing driving the 6MT. Good luck!

things an enthusiast will endure..
i know exactly how you feel.. my car was fully repainted by the dealer due to 80% of the car having bubbles under the clear coat... i got a loaner for like a month.. i called every week just to ask if it was done knowing it wasnt..

The fact it's black probably helped me to notice the scratch, because at first I just saw scratches in the clear coat...then when I got closer I saw the ones down to the metal.
I actually thought of you when I noticed the scratch, because it wasn't at the window tinting place. I did a really quick walkaround there before leaving and noticed the scratch the next day. I remember you saying a while back to take your time during inspection any time you pick your car up from somewhere...I was pissed I didn't take that precaution. Luckily it didn't matter in the end.

well it does matter, a depreciation value of the car..
the repaint will show up on the car fax if you decide to sell, it wont be as valuable.
I bitched at acura for selling me a car that is worth less than what i paid for. I told them that i paid for a new car without defects and i got a car that was repainted. i was able to get acura to give me warranty for free up to 2017 and up to 100k
did you get anything out of it?

this is what i was told.
also, if you attemp to trade it in or sell it back to dealer, they will know automatically with a device that the paint is not original. PTG (paint thickness guage) tells all.
edges of the door jams are not smooth, etc.. alot of signs where the dealer can ding you for it.

i know how you feel about getting back into your car....i had my car in for some warranty work and to have the trunk repainted, and drove an ILX for almost a week....
great gas miliage, but man it felt great to get back into my car....the ILX has no hp, and could hardley get out of its own way
