Opinions on Extended Warranty and Tire Insurance

Just wondering what your thoughts were on purchasing the extended warranty. I was quoted $1695 for 8yr/100k and he wouldn't budge. I got them down to $595 on the tire / rim package, which I still think is pretty high.

I price insurance for a living and I think both of those quotes are padded and that I could find a better deal someone else. When I did a search I found one member quote $1300 but didn't know how to go about finding that deal. Also, do you recommend purchasing either package, regardless of price?

Are you buying the car from an Acura dealership or already purchased?

Just curious because I went to the dealership with my own financing arranged but gave them a chance to beat my rate (which I didn't tell them). Their original rate beat the one I had from my bank, but I still got them to come down another point by telling them I'd only take the warranty if they could come down another point off their interest rate. It was basically a wash financially but I got the warranty!

Do not purchase the extended warranty from the dealership. Contact Bob Leab at Hyannis Honda and he'll quote you Acuracare for much much less. I bought the 7yr/100k Acuracare extended warranty from Bob for $1020. Hope that helps. His email is bobl dot sales at hyannishonda dot com.

I got the 0.9% interest rate and wouldn't expect much lower.

Thank you, that was similar to what I had found when I performed the search. I wonder how he does it for almost $700 cheaper?

I don't think he plays any games. He just gives their best price upfront. I think the 8yr/100k warranty with $0 deductible is $1,240.

I as a rule don't buy any extended warranties on any of my purchases. I'm self-insuring across all of my purchases.

Do you know if he does the same thing on the tire package?

Not sure this matters to you but I figured I'd toss it in here.

I NEVER buy these warranties, ever. Never have and probably never will. HOWEVER, I bought my 2012 TL SHAWD Advance and literally two weeks after buying it I hit a pot hole at a slow speed. (Downtown Chicago). I'm used to them and generally see them, but for some reason I missed it.

This bastard chewed up both driver side rims. Had the car lifted and there were literally human fist sized dents on both rims on the inside.

So you do the math, few weeks of ownership, +2 Advance rims.
