Ok, I'm hooked...now the hard part..

I have a 2005 TL/Navi with 66k on it, and finally got a chance to drive an AWD Auto & 6 Speed.

After doing both back to back, IMO I can honestly say the 6 Speed give a drastic amount of additional throttle feedback.

We drove the same route, while punching it in the turns, the manual simply jumped and and was very nimble launching me through the rest of the turn.

The auto just didn't provide the instant feedback. I realize this is common and drove both auto and manual before buying my 2005, but I feel the difference is even greater in the 2010 TL's.

So, now I have the worst part...getting a reasonable price. Was looking for others that have bought the 2010 AWD/Tech 6 Speed to let me know what the real price for the new car ended up at...

All input welcome...would like the Palladium, but seems like only Black is in the area, except for one Palladium that has almost 500 miles on it, and I don't consider that a NEW car.

Thanks,
Brian

Well, being that the 6MT cars are very rare at this time, it'll probably be almost impossible for you to get any sort of discount on it. Every dealer will most likely get 1 or 2 at most and they are gonna hang onto them for as long as possible to maximize their profit. If you really want it right now, you're gonna have to pony-up and pay MSRP.....around $43K-45K.

+1 to PetesTL's post.

I just picked up a 6spd a couple of days ago.

Honda is likely going to continue to limit the amount of 6MT TL's produced. I agree most dealers will likely have only 1-2 6MTs in stock, and a few dealers I know already have their only available 6MT presold (even before the buyer test drove the car).

Because I had a trade in involved AND had the dealer swap the HPT tires for all seasons (the dealer had to go out and buy additional tires, which I'm inclined to believe), it's hard to gauge whether I paid MSRP or not. Looking back, I may have gotten $1k off MSRP at best.

I would say any amount at or below MSRP would be the going fair rate. Just don't pay anything above MSRP.

My guess is the 6MT will continue to command a higher price than the automatic version, simply b/c of limited production.

Well...

I thought I'd found one with no miles on it, but ended up finding one with 138 miles on it for ~2100 off MSRP...

Bad idea to take a car that has been demo driven 15 times or so?...

I think for the price its worth it...and I'm super picky about this too.

For ~$2100 off a car that you will be lucky to get anything at all off of, and only 138 miles on it, I would buy it without a second thought IF it is absolutely the car you want.

Similar but not totally related, I had 265 miles on my 09 AWD. It was either that or no car plus I was able to knock $900 off invoice.

Once the fun kicks in you'll forget the initial mileage. I'm like you too. 265 miles, WTF? No way.... In my case the car was from a different state so I don't know how many of those miles are demo or just transportion or the guys taking it to buy lunch.

The Miles seem fine to me. The longer the vehicle is in stock the more it will probably accumulate.

If your going to buy now while all the hype is going on about the 6MT and you want zero miles (basically fresh off the transport) you can expect to pay full MSRP or more if the salesman is good at his job.

I would shop around and find a dealer thats motivated to move their product. "Rondog" I believe posted in another thread where he test drove the new 6MT and they dropped $2K immediately after the test drive without much trouble and thinks he can get $3-4K off MSRP if he really negotiated.

Don't know if this helps or hurts, but be sure to contact the Internet Sales reps at any of the dealers in your area first. After I drove the one at my local dealer, the ISR told me nothing off because it was new, unique, and they were going to try to get as much as it as they could. I then noted this past weekend it was listed in their inventory with the typical "ASK FOR INTERNET PRICE", so I contacted him via email again and questioned this. He came back and told me he talked to the Sales Manager and they'd take $1,000 off. Another ISP near Philly bosted about their committment to the customer and the purchasing experience, but when all was said and done, $500 off MSRP. I sent out inquiries to any dealer within 100 miles who had my color choice listed on their inventory, and got one reply stating they had just gotten one off the truck. Internet price just over $2,000 off MSRP.

It's now in my garage.

Gone (211108) but not forgotten.

I think Rondog might have an advantage due to the products he markets thru his local dealers, but I'd be surprised if he gets $3-$4K off MSRP (Invoice is $39,866 on the HPT model so $4k off of MSRP would be about $500 less than Invoice), at least this early in the model run.

just my thoughts

Well, went and looked at their car, even with the miles the brakes looked like they just rolled off the truck, so I went for it.

Net off of MSRP ended up being $1900. I wasn't going to mess and argue over a couple hundred more, so happy right now.

Set trip on the way home over 40 miles and averaged 27.4 mpg which surprised me given some o the mileage numbers posted.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Wow, some of these Acura dealers must be really desperate if they are willing to take that much off the MSRP on a very limited production model like the 6MT. ....either that or maybe Acura as a whole must be really suffering right now....esp. the 4G as shown in the latest sales numbers.

... or maybe I just got lucky and found the one dealer who didn't take this into consideration, unlike my local dealer who saw it for what it (potentially) was. They only had the car in their possession for a couple of days before I contacted them.

It's probably a matter of it being presold or not. If it's available and sits on the lot it's no good to them. Based on what the 09's went for, I don't think many are willing to pay too much more over invoice for any 10' and they may try to squeeze out a little more for 6MT but it's the same car, only a different tranny. Doesn't make sense that you can steal an auto but not a manual, that will fade out soon. Even those who have paid MSRP or close to it were most likely offered compensation in other areas, like trade in. I am looking into a few dealers in my area with unsold 6MT units, I will post when I know more.

I think it's really the 4G not selling well. I mean look at last month's sales numbers.....it's pathetic. Outside of our "little" group here at Acurazine, the public at large are not all that enthusiastic about the TL. I know a co-worker who bought a brand new 335i manual a couple months ago and he pretty much paid list price for that car. He told me that he shopped about a dozen cars, including the TL (due to my recommendation), but despite offers of big discounts, he passed over the 4G because of its looks.

I too have shopped the 335i/335xi manual. Great car, but in the end Acura reliability (and overall cabin comfort) won out.

The 4G exterior design is different, but it stands out nicely. I've already gotten compliments and looks on my 4G (in just the few days) I had the car. IMHO, the 4G's exterior really shines when the car is moving.

Too bad your co-workers passed on the 4G b/c of the exterior; he's missing out on a well engineered product. The last (and only time) I buy a car based on its looks (09 IS250) and that experiment failed miserably.

The 4G is truly an awesome machine, esp with the manual .

Seat comfort

docboy, I know you agonized a long time over this ride and especially seating comfort. Now that you've had some time in the saddle, what are your thoughts?

That hit the nail on the head. Most cars look better while in motion but the TL looks as if it was specifically designed to be viewed that way.

After spending such an exhausting time during my 2nd round of car shopping (more than humanly possible) my thoughts on comfort:

Drivers seat: Lots of room to maneuver. After a few days in the car, there are no obvious obstructions to the right/left leg, foot, or hip. Plenty of room between the knee and steering wheel. Good amount of footwell space (unlike that of the IS, GS, G37). The seats are nicely bolstered and supportive to the hips, good lumbar support, and nice lateral support. Not too snug, not too loose.

The middle console also does not intrude into the driver's or passenger's area. Some AWD sedans have such wide middle consoles they bother and hinder movement of the adjacent knee/leg.

One person has mentioned that near the right knee cap, the dashboard comes down a little enough to bother the knee. Has not yet bothered me; don't know if it well, but that would the only minor quibble.

Overall lots of room to move about, and I definitely do not feel constrained.

Passenger's side No footwell obstruction (unlike that of the A4, G37). Overall very comfy passenger's seating, and lots of room to move about as well.

Rear seating Plenty of leg space. Having adjusted the driver's seat to my liking, I can hop in the rear and have lots of room to move about. I can cross my legs freely without feeling confined. There is a minor bump due to the AWD drivetrain in the middle rear seat and middle footwell area, so headroom is limited in the middle seat. But since I don't regularly carry 3 adults in the back, I'm okay with that.

Plenty of room for either 2 adult passengers or 2 child seats on the side, and a child in the middle. Again, cushions are supportive. I like the folding rear headrests. When not in use, then can be folded down to better rear visibility.

There are also good rear foot space. Some cars like the G37x and IS, once you sit in the rear, your toes have no where to go.

Rear visibility in the TL is also nice. Some cars like the G37 and IS have thick C pillars that impose rear blind spots. The IS also for example has thick A pillars that obstruct left driver's side view. None of that crap I feel is present in the TL. Frontal visibility in the TL is good; only quibble I have is it's a little tough to tell where the nose/beak is at.

Overall cabin feel is roomy, unobstructed, good all around visibility, and no sense of claustrophobia.

IMHO, the TL's interior cabin is among the best I've sat in. If I were to rank the interior comfort levels of some of the major AWD sedans, it would be: TL>A6>A4/S4>335>Legacy GT>G37x>IS.

Also IMHO, the interior of the A6 and TL are very comparable, but Audi does not have much (if any) thigh support and has very stiff cushions. It would not surprise me if I took a long road trip in the Audi's and I find my thighs very sore/tired; hence my ranking of the TL at the top.

I really hope you'll enjoy your new car, pain-free and with a never-fading smile behind the wheel!

I can sympathize as I have difficulties staying is static position for long period of times but it's different in the TL. 3 hours of straight driver and only minor right leg fatigue (due to not using the Cruise controls). Frankly I'm impressed by the TL cabin each time I get in and I'm sad each time I get out of my car!

Very pleased to know you're well in your new cockpickt! (while many other cars have a cabin, the TL has a cockpit!)

I paid $38, 500 for a 6MT. That included the Diamond cut wheels and tires which retail for around $3400 for the wheel and tire combo.
