This may turn into one of those long threads..with a zillion opinions.. I'll keep it brief.

First thing to keep in mind is how many miles you think you're going to keep the car for. If it's 150k+ then I'd go with Synthetic when required, and even a little earlier than required, around 3-4k. That will ensure the best protection and you'll be changing the oil before all the additives are starting to wear out.

But if you're only keeping it for a few years, then selling or trading, go with regular oil and normal frequency. Even that isn't bad for an engine, it just isn't babying it as much. And if you don't live in a really cold climate area then it really is fine. And of course the harder you push the engine the quicker any oil deteriorates.

As for performance, Synthetic will always give you a couple extra ponies. I forgot to add, I want the ponies and want my engine happy so I run Synthetic.

I do Mobil1 5W20 and Mobil1 Filter when MID gets down to 30%-20% for me that is around 5K miles.

Thank You Wavehogger, Synthetic it is. Although I haven't done the first oil change and am not near it (800 miles currently), I like to know my next step with the TL long before it's due.

I bought this car like every other I own with the intentions of keeping it, I really can't say if I will have it when it dies but in the meantime atleast I know I can push it a bit harder if it has synthetic.
