Colin,
very thoughtful post my friend. Thank you.
I bought my '04 in the spring of '04...there was a waiting list. I got my top of the line version (w/Navi...that was the only option that affected the price) for $1,000 less than MSRP. I agree the '09 offers more...but I haven't driven it yet.
They called me two weeks in advance to tell me it was on its way and its delivery date. EVERY '04 I saw on the lot was sold except the demos. They weren't even using the TSX as loaners then.
Times have changed. I still want a new TL, I'm just not sure I want this one. I actually think I can adjust to the new styling, I am not so sure about the increase in size...six inches is playing with my garage space my friend!
I love the Acura brand...what sold me STARTED with the styling, then the other things like technology and value sealed the deal. I am not doing as well working it out the other way, ya know?

Every Honda and Acura model other than the Acura TL posted a sales decline last month. The sedan is designed and built in central Ohio.
Every Honda and Acura model other than the Acura TL posted a sales decline last month. The sedan is designed and built in central Ohio.
The brutal October U.S. sales numbers that automakers reported this week contained one bit of good news -- for Honda.
While the automaker reported a 28 percent decline overall for the month on its Honda- and Acura-brand vehicles, sales of the newly redesigned Acura TL bucked the trend.
The luxury sedan, designed and built in central Ohio, sold 4,340 units in the first full month of the redesign, up 22 percent from the same month last year.
"Clearly, it was the bright spot in their lineup for the month. That's kind of the power of being new," said George Peterson, president of AutoPacific, a California research firm.
And yet, the timing of the redesign might be bad for Acura in the long run. The publicity surrounding its debut took place at the same time as a historic drop in new-car sales.
"This is a bad time for anyone to be launching a new product," Peterson said.
In fact, sales in the U.S. fell 32 percent compared with October 2007, to the lowest level in 17 years. General Motors reported a 45 percent decline, Chrysler a 35 percent drop and Ford a 30 percent slide.
At Honda, every Honda and Acura model other than the Acura TL posted a sales decline last month. Even the Honda Civic, a model that had strong sales through the early months of the recent economic downturn, was down 25 percent.
Honda has said it hopes to sell 70,000 TL units next year, which would mark a return to the 2006 sales level after two years of decreases.
The TL is part of a line-wide redesign for Acura, with a bolder exterior and a host of changes to make for a smoother ride. The look is a departure from the staid appearance Acura drivers might be used to. The retail price ranges from $34,000 to $42,000, or about 10 percent more than the previous version.
"There have been mixed emotions about the styling," said Steve Lindsay, general sales manager at Lindsay Acura in Columbus. "Some people don't like it at first and it grows on them."
He said the design is part of the manufacturer's attempt to differentiate itself from others in the luxury segment, an effort that he thinks is good for Acura in the long run.
"Acura wants the average drivers to be able to say 'That's an Acura,' " he said.
