A Nose Job or not?

They say that some faces are suited for their features. For those of you old enough to remember, Klinger wore that beak well. Jimmy Durante wouldn't have been the same without it. Many men of fame have adorned apendages somewhat larger than life. Some pull it off well, and some just...well...

In any case, our 4G has been mocked by most. Some equate it to the ugly baby...just cute enough to not be hideous, but still ugly none the less. I've been battling back and forth with a nose job by Ron jon for my girl as well, that is up unitl this weekend. I put some new shoes on her. My teenage son and his friends think the wheels are sick and make the ride look totally different. So I started looking at different angles and I think I see something here.

There's something about the silver matching the body color and the brushed aluminum matching the nose. It seems to bring it all together and tone down the beak. In fact, I'm starting to think this 4g looks pretty good. Please feel free to . I'm just typing out loud.

I have a feeling that for the MMC, acura will tweak the styling to make it less polarizing. (In addition to new/additional features) If/When they do, I'm trading my 2010 in for it.

Leave it be if your happy with it. IMHO, the beak flows the best with the silver and white color.

Speaking as an owner of a PM, many times the beak/PM TL looks simply awesome at certain angles. At other angles up close ...

Anyone here a photoshop expert with time to spare? I wonder what the grill would like:

1) Painted entirely PM
2) The portion of the grill that obtrudes on top of the hood painted PM, with the rest left intact.
3) The middle insert of the grill painted PM, with the outside part left intact.

Any takers?

Love the rims btw

Maybe it is the wheels or the color, but I think it looks quite good. I've thought briefly about replacing the grill as well, but have come to like it, and it's uniqueness.

Beauty is in the eye of e beholder, so if you like it, that's all that really matters. It's one sharp looking car IMO.

Last year I really didn't like the grill on the 4th gen TL's but as time passed the beak began to look better, just getting used to it I guess. I've had 6 TL's through the years and the worst car was the 1991 with the faulty transmission. I lost money just to get rid of that car.

2 weeks ago I bought a 2010 TL Tech and it is so far ahead of every other acura I've owned. You can rip and store 10 days of music from cd's on it's onboard hard drive. The technology goes ahead of every other car I've seen. Not to speak of it's ride and handling. Everyday I am discovering new suprises in the electronics, but back to the "beak".

Just relax and don't change a thing, the grill looks fine as it is unless you prowl negative threads get an obsession and to invent your own design. Doing this will decrease the value of your car and you will also lose the amount that you invest in changing something that doesn't need changing.

A lot the negative comments I've seen about the 4th gens are not usually from people that own one. Usually it comes from someone that has seen pictures and others have seen the car at a dealership. Believe me if you own one of these cars especially the tech models you will quietly smile while knowing that you have the best thing on the road for the money you paid.

Oh BTW, the grill looks fine!!

In silver the grill looks the best. There is less contrast and the top two inches blend into the hood really well.

Of course there will be comments from people that don't own the car. Their opinions are just as valid as our opinions. They see the car from the outside, we see it from the inside. If anything, they offer a more objective viewpoint over ours because we've already bought the car with our hard earned $$ and will usually have biased opinions of it. I mean.. would you really buy the car and then complain about it all the time in every thread?

IMO, the way acura should "fix" the grill would simply be to make the top of the grill line up with the headlights. Yes, I know the previous TL also had its grill overlap slightly into the hood, but it wasn't as bluntly outstanding as it is on this car. It was more of a subtle touch.

Have you guys see the revised grill on the TSX wagon? I have a feeling the rest of the lineup will get similar treatment for their MMCs/FMCs.

I thought long and hard before spending the money to buy a car with a possible issue.

I don't agree that someone that doesn't own one of these cars will put as much thought and and have the insight when posting as an owner will. After owning drving as many acuras as I have in the past, I can tell you that this car is a big improvment in every way over other Acuras that I have had the pleasure to own and drive. I have a low mileage WDP 3rd gen 07 sitting in the garage next to the 2010. It's a wonderful car but doesn't compare.

Another point of disagreement, about owners not complaining. After owning a second gen TL with a bad transmission and no fix in sight from Acura. I burned their asses up complaining on the forum almost on a daily basis.

If Acura wants to line up the grill with the headlights maybe it it will look better. There are numerous options available now to change the looks of the grill but I don't see a real problem after owning one for a while. Hopefully you will get used to the "beak" and enjoy the nice car that you own.

I'd leave it - looks great.

Re: others' opinions. I know what some of the media have expressed and lot of posters on forums, etc. simply ape what they read. But personally, I've never received so many compliments on the looks of a new car as I've had with my 2010 TL.

Everyone has a right to their opinion. Putting this thread up I am looking for other points of view besides my own. I already know I'm keeping the grill. I was just curious to see how much bashing there would be here in comparison to how much I've seen in the past.

Well, the 4G has been out for a while so people are getting a little more acclimated to the styling. However, the biggest bashing I see is still in the 3G forum, particularly among the harcore 3G and even some 2G guys. I think the RJ grill did a lot to quiet the bashing but still there are some vocal haters out there. I definately think Acura will tweak the grill sooner rather than later and it's going to help the palatability among the public. The inclusion of a 6-sp AT and a small bump in hp won't hurt either.

Ugh, I am too familiar with the mod bug. I have a few of my last vehicles that I've played with; including an 03 G35, an 05 Legacy GT Ltd, an 07 SI and even an 08 Ridgeline (to name a few). While I would love to see a few more ponies out of her, I'm not sure I would trade the reliability factor. If there was a factory option on the grill I might think about it, but the RJ seems to be plagued with fitment issues from what I've seen. I have thought about the body kit, but theres not that much flash for the buck. I like the front underbody, but not sure how it will look without the rest...ugh.

I think any grill replacement - factory or otherwise will have fitment issues if not professionally installed. And sometimes even with a professional install... We all think that in 2011 will have a toned down grille. My bet is that it's a single part they make, something like the ZDX grille. I would be that swapping out with whatever new grille they make will still not have 100% perfect fix.

I think all the fitment issues with the RJ grille have been figured out as well, it's nothing like the first few that went out.

I think the front grill and the Silver color combination looks great. It belnds in nicely. I think the beak really becomes an issue when it is combined with the darker colors of the car. Like with a Black car that grill stands out like mad.

I would like to know this as well. I almost felt like with PM it didn' make sense to paint it....well I didn't want to and the decide it wasn't a big enough difference.

Thanks for the work. Did you use a "digi pen?"

I too have received more compliments (and repeated ones for that matter) on my 4G than any other car I've owned.

Having said that, color matching the part of the grill that intrudes up on the hood makes a huge difference.

Yooin14,

Just another request (sorry if I seem greedy), but since your photoshop skills are great and you are on a roll...

Can you color match the outside portion of the grill to PM as well, leaving only the center piece of the grill chrome color?

All Acura really needs to do in my humble opinion is not pull the grille all the way past the crease in the hood.

When they don't do that as in the TSX is looks fine to me:

I like the grille. I might doing a little something-something to it to personalize it, but every female that's check it out likes it. And for some reason they touch the damn things too as they look at it...hmmm.

The complaints i received are mixed, but I actually get more complaints about the rear being too "angular" and just looking mismatched. I haven't received many complaints about the front grill surprisingly.

That's what makes the world go around. Every one sees it their own way and it all works. Personally, I prefer the TL grill over the TSX. I think the TSX is a half hearted attempt at being something different. Either you're in, or your out. The TL grill is definitely different. Either you love it, or you hate it. I love it. It took me a while, but I do.

Sorry I got off the intent of your thread. After continued reading of the forum and reconsidering the design, I do agree that something is needed to tone down the grill.
My thoughts really changed while visiting an acura dealership last week and seeing dealership painted grills on NEW cars and not selling many cars. When a dealership alters a new car to change it's looks, that indicates that not only the guys at acurazine don't like the design. It's a desperate move on the part of the dealer trying to make the car more attractive to general population. The size and the angularity of grill needs to be diminished, an easy and inexpensive way to change the look of the car.

My main fear is that acura makes a change in 2011 and comes out with a drop dead beautiful change. That will make the 2009 and 2010 owners the same as the people that bought Edsels years ago.

How do you think it would look if there were not so much distance between the front wheels and the nose? Say, for example, that the wheelbase had been an inch or two longer. The 4G is longer than an A6 with a shorter wheelbase than an A4.
