I think someone was saying the 6AT in the new TL was a new double clutch transmission. People were mentioning that does not exist in any other Acura at this point. Please correct me if I'm wrong, that's what I was getting from the thread. Is it an all new trans? or Just the same AT from the ZDX and other Acuras?

Where does the 'multi-clutch' description come from? This is the first mention of this feature...can you please confirm the source? I checked the description on the Acura site and it's not there....thanks

There is a flip side to that coin..
I only buy ~3yr old cars at 40%-60% depreciation. So when it is time to trade in, I can afford to walk away with slightly less and/or negotiate with the dealer that is having hard time selling his not-in-demand-car which just happens to be my next ~3yr old car that took a 40%-60% depreciation hit.
As an example, I have my eyes on a 2008 vehicle that MSRP’d well above $100K. Depreciation is @ 50% so far and counting. It is a high performance 6.2L V8 so I am letting the gas prices do their magic

^^^^ It's in the press release for the 2012 TL. Fifth paragraph down:http://vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=958088

"To increase performance, a new Sequential SportShift 6-speed automatic transmission is applied on all TL models with automatic transmission. In addition to incorporating engineering enhancements aimed at improving efficiency, a sport-minded double-kick-down feature lets the driver command a double downshift— such as from Fifth to Third gear. The Drive-by-Wire™ throttle system also creates a “blip” of the throttle to help match gear speeds while downshifting.
In addition, the transmission teams with a new multi-clutch torque converter that not only reduces heat build-up during operation, but also allows for lock-up activation during a much wider range of driving conditions— which helps generate improved fuel economy. As a result, city/highway fuel economy is now 20/29 mpg*— an increase of 3 mpg in highway driving over the 2011 TL. To further improve operating efficiency, the TL’s standard 3.5L V-6 engine receives a host of friction-reduction technologies while a revised air inlet system provides cooler air for both the 3.5L and 3.7L engines."

new multi-clutch torque converter
I saw that too - but if it was anything like DSG or M-DCT - I think when they described it they would have said more than about it than - heat build up and improved fuel economy and a double downshift
I just think it wont be much more than than what they said - its still an automatic - improved though - I thinking just a version of the current 6 speed auto in the mdx/zdx/rl
but I could be wrong - I guess we should know in a few weeks
until then : compare this from acura about the RL's new 6 spd auto:
http://www.acura.com/PressReleaseArt...010&id=5801-en
A new Sequential SportShift 6-speed automatic transmission is used that not only generates improved acceleration performance, but also delivers improved fuel economy. In addition, the 6-speed transmission teams with a new multi-clutch torque converter that not only has a higher maximum torque rating, but also has a new converter lock-up assembly. The lock-up assembly uses multiple lock-up disks that generate nearly double the facing area of a typical torque converter. The lock-up assembly not only reduces heat build-up during operation, but also allows for lock-up activation during a much wider range of driving conditions, which, in turn, generates improved fuel economy. As a result of the new 6-speed transmission and torque converter, city/highway/combined fuel economy* is now 17/24/20— an increase of 2 mpg in highway driving.
then read the one below for the 2012 TL

My decision point will be late MArch. In ATL if you buy a car withone 30 days of your b'day you forgo annual car tax (for me about $550) plus I will need tires on the M37S ina few months, another $1400 so even if I take a $2k-$3K hit it is offset by my expenses. I also have some home projects I want to get done so I am not sure, I want back in the Acura family, not thrilled with Infiniti, but I want to see the TL. I did like the Volvo S60 I drove, but have an issue feeding the China machine more than I have to. If the hit on the M is too high I'll do the tires and drive it another year or wait until December. Biggest probelm for me is in ATL the AWD TL's are rare and the dealers do not discount them much so I know they'll be greedy for a AWD Advance.
I purchased a brand new 2010 TL SH-AWD 6-speed for 37K from Nalley Acura in Marietta; they couldn't get it off the lot so I decided to take it for them!

Congrats. I have the AT but it is one fine car. The more I drive it and look at it, the more grateful I am for that car. The AWD has saved me from getting a terrible accident and I feel confident with each rotation of the tire.

My car was at Nalley Acura, but they refused to deal in Nov and wanted to sell me their lifetime engine warranty, so I got Sons Acura to swap a car with them and got a sweet deal... $36.3k + 0.9% APR. Absolutely love my car; no issues whatsoever.

NAlley has been farily agressive, but I always buy from Jackson Acura in Alpharetta, bought 5 cars from them, they already have my 12 TL coming in, no headaches about asking for a down payment or anything. Trick will be to see if we can come to a reasonable deal with my M37S trade.

Yeah it's silly, if it was a dual-clutch transmission it wouldn't HAVE a torque converter. They're talking about improvements to the lock-up clutch, which is supposed to make the torque converter more efficient at a wider range of speeds.

I agree. Given with what Acura had to work with and make a change without changing any sheet metal I think they did a great job. IMO, the pre-mmc was overdeveloped, or designed with a two dimentional concept in mind. I always heard comments about how it looked like something from a Transformer movie or comic book.
I would want to wait untill i see it in person but this picture with what appears to be an A-Spec kit makes the 2012 look very mature yet aggressive. I always thought when they created the 4G that they had three different design teams work on the front, mid-section and rear, and at no time did they ever meet up untill after production started. Personally I dont think this mmc is perfect by any means but it is an improvement and hopefully the 5G will flow much better right from the start.
The addition of the 6AT is also a awesome improvement and one that was desperately needed since the 4G was introduced. We obviously wont know much more until the gear and final drive ratio's are released but it should be an improvement. It was dissapointing when a A4 with a 2.0T and a 6AT could perform equally or in some cases better than the much larger 3.7 in the 4G......but this should change now.
Overall IMO, if Acura can still sell the same numbers but not have to have huge dealer discounts or large incentives to move the TL it will be a success for them. Im sure current owners here though will not want to see the sales take off as this will probably have the pre-mmc TL resale value drop dramatically......personally I dont think anyone has to worry though as i dont see any drastic changes in their sales.

2012 Acura TL Release March!
I was at the Chicago Auto Show today. I am due for a new care sometime before summer. My last 2 cars have been TL's, 1999 & 2005. Always admired the combination of leg-room, performance, technology integration & value of the TL. The 2012 TL was on display and accessible. The new styling is fine. The dash appeared to have more cheap plastic than my current 2005 TL. I joked with the salesperson and asked "spring or fall". Without hesitation she reported it will be released in March!. I will be looking at some other brands. Paying what is likely to be sticker price is going to hurt. I paid 32K for my 2005 TL. It will wind up in the low 40K range for the new one.

I also saw the 2012 TL at the Chicago auto show today. IMHO the 2012 is a big improvement over the 2009 - 2011. I may actually consider a 4G now that I have seen the 2012.

actually they said in the video from the auto show that there was no changes to any metal panels. So just a new bumper cover painted and the grill with fog lights and any clips that are different that hold the cover on.Hood looks the same too me.And if you wanted the darker headlights too.I hope some one tries it.

No hard date, but dealer can see their allocaitons/orders so they should know what they have coming. They have a Silver on black AWD Advance with 19 inch wheels inbound for me. I have heard in a few places March 15 is on sael date. My dealer's inventory of 11 TLs is low already.

I was at the Toronto Autoshow today and saw the new TL. Unfortunately it was on display so I could not go in it or get too close. From the exterior, I think the front is an improvement as it is now not too aggressive, however that said, I think they may have toned it down a bit too much. It appears the beak has been removed and a new peice put in, the only diffrence is more of the top of the beak is painted the body colour, (a panel actually), and below, chrome with black fins. It looks way less agressive. I love the smoked lights.
The rear seems quite similar, but the garnish is smaller, the lights for the most part are the same and they took out the damn quad exhaust. The question is why?
All in all, it is my opinion, as this vehicle is more mainstream, more will be sold. I am trying to get my wife into one in the spring, but she likes the RDX.

Forged Silver Metallic with ebony interior AWD Advance with 19 inch wheels. I was ready to go for the Gray, but the new 2011/12 Gray - Graphite Luster is very dark and on an overcast day coudl pass for black. The Car on the video from the Chicago show looks great under the bright quartz lihts, but I saw the 2011 TSX in that color and it is too dark for me.

Funny my dealer already knows his allocation and I can't beliieve they would have firm inventory 3 months out, but we'll see. If it is May then I'll likely hold my car until year end as I need to do something in early April to avoid a huige tag payment or I am better of holding my car longer.
