New TL - paint drip

New TL - paint drip
Hey guys - I just purchased a new 2013 TL and noticed a very small over drip of paint. The dealer is willing to fix it, however that would entail painting almost the entire passenger door and side to make sure it matches. I'm worried about the non-factory paint chipping or being inferior quality. Any advice??

Haroon....This is totally your call but depending on how bad it is, and how visible it is but for me....I would NEVER have my car repainted unless it was a must. Nothing beats the adhesion of a factory paint in my humble opinion. That being said, I am the most anal person you will ever find and I know that many are OK with having their vehicle resprayed.

Uhh if I had to state an opinion, my car got hit from the back -lol- and left quite a dent on it. Had to fixed and resprayed and it's not really noticeable to me. However! I agree on the fact that nothing beats the original factory paint. I guess it all depends on you really feel on the idea with your car being re-painted.

I would get it done again BUT only when the weather gets warmer. Being that it's a new car, it would probably drive me nuts because I'm paying a lot of money for it. Just make sure the paints comes with warranty or something so you don't get shafted down the road if the paint starts to chip.

Any pics of it? If its a small drip i would leave it alone... Its hard to get someone that knows how to match paint... So far the only person after seeing his work i would trust to touch the paint on my car is Nexon on the forum here lol... But yes, any pics?

For me, its not that I don't think that non factory paint job will look bad, or that it won't match. The biggest concern I have is its durability and how it will eventually flake in the long term. Again, after the repaid is done, you will not notice it (probably) but its what happens after year 2+

I have decided to let them repair it. They have assured me that they have noted the location of the repair and the paint will be under warranty against oxidation and irregular chips for 5 years.

If it's not that noticable I would leave it but if it does get repainted your onlt concern is if they match the color correctly. These days there should be a lifetime warranty on the paint so there should not be any reason to worry in the future.
Also if the drip is in the clear coat they will be able to just color sand and buff the run out.

I had a small drip of clear coat, resembling a water droplet, on the edge of the rear passenger door, fortunately it polished down and no repainting was necessary. Wasn't noticeable anyway.
I was able to sopt it on several other brand new, on the lot, TL's on the exact same location at that time and had it meter tested extensively to ensure it was factory paint. Bad run at the factory I guess, opened a file with Acura HQ and the dealer has it on record if anyone down the lines insists it's not factory and I take a financial hit as a result, so I'm compensated. Hopefully that played a hand in resolving the issue.
If it is factory paint, is not too noticeable and will polish off, I would leave it alone but before doing anything, establish if it was repainted at some point and not actually factory line finish. Make them compensate you for the depreciation you will face either way as a result, even if it is a lease. Get free maintenance or something.

Unless the paint shop also uses the multi-bake-multi-coat painting process as used by the factory, otherwise aftermarket paint won't be as durable and won't stick onto the car as well as the factory paint.

Factory paint system = $1,000,000
They aren't the same but all good paint companies offer a lifetime warranty and the waterbourn paints these days are awesome. They won't fade, peel or fail if prepped correctly. Although not as durable as the factory waterbourn paints are a lot tougher the the old stuff.

I just came back from the dealer and spoke with the sales manager. We both went and looked at it and he feels that the auto body they got the quote from is trying to rip them off (since it is under warranty and Acura is paying the bill). Mine also looks like a water drop and we both think it is the actual clear coat, not the factory paint so there shouldn't be a need to paint the whole door (and part of the fender like the 1st auto body wanted to do!). So on Monday he said he is going to have another auto body they work with give a second opinion and try to get away from painting the door. Regardless, he said that if I am not satisfied in any way with the repair, they would just write off the deal and get me another new car (even though I have put about 500 miles on this one). If they can just wet sand and fix the clear coat he said even if I am satisfied, he will give me some service credits. I feel much more at ease now.

Haroon08...You are dealing with a fine dealership if they are willing to give you a brand new car if you are not happy with the repair....Very few dealers would do that so you are quite lucky. If you get a chance, see if you can get a picture because Nexson is quite the paint expert and likely, one the best one to provide some input here on Acurazine.

I took a couple of pics but since the car was washed and waxed it doesn't show up due to the reflection. I am having issues trying to upload the pic - sorry I am brand new to this forum and not quite sure how to do it.

Haroon08....It is easier to put your pics on a "hosting" site such as "photobucket" ...That is what I use. If you don't have an account and you want me to post your pic for you, send me a PM, I'll give you my e-mail address. You can send me your pic, then I'll load it up for you if that helps.

Factory paint does also get rock chips, but it sticks better and thus won't be as easy as the aftermarket paint.
My point is that try not to repaint the car unless absolutely necessary.
