Just purchased my first car, the 10 tl shawd 6mt and i love it. I was debating between this car and the new 2010 G37 sedan but after doing some research online and to the thanks of the users of this forum i decided to go with the tl.

I guess you can say i was pretty lucky to be in a situation where i drove some pretty nice cars from the moment i got my license, most of them being a mercedes. most recently a 2008 MB s600. drove over 50,000 miles over a 18 month span and the maintence on it was just getting rediculous. First time i bought a car thats manual and i love it. So much fun, i cant imagine ever going back to an automatic after driving the TL. Theres a lot of power in the S600, but sometimes it just felt lagging with it being a 4 speed automatic. Plus the fact that it is an awd was a huge huge selling point for me. This was the first car that i ever purchased and i rea;ly couldnt be happier.

Overall i wanted to thank the users of this forum for convincing me to move forward with the purchase of the TL and i hope to learn much more about the car through these forums.

Welcome! and wow S600 must've been crazy with the v12 biturbo. It's a 5speed though not a 4speed.

Congrats but what made you go from driving a $100K+ car to a entry-level luxury vehicle? Shouldn't you be driving a Porsche 911 or something? No offense but sounds a little weird.

Oops, typo. No doubt that the car was a monster. I mean for the long drives with the baby, ill still be taking the S600. I drive over 15k miles a year, gas was no joke. The job im in, i meet with alot of different clients throughout the day doing sales, and it doesnt look great when im pulling into their parking lot with that car.

There are a lot of well to do folks that are scaling down on luxury items. I know a lot of my co-leagues have done the same.

I turned in my BMW 750Li for my base model Acura TL and couldn't be happier.

A friend of mine turned in his Maserati Quattroporte for a V6 Honda Accord.
My neighbor, his 911 Turbo for a 370Z and my Wife' with her G500 GWagen to a GL320 Diesel.

Times are tough, even for people with money. I figured that I will sit out the next 3 years with an ok car and see how the economy and finances turn around. If all is well I'll most likely also pick up an S65 AMG.

haha yea you'd be suprised. the S600 is more of a once a month kind of a car, i usually have a DD to go along with S600. Usually through short term leases through the company i work with. But the TL is the first car ive acutally purchased and i love it. and i dont think my girlfriend would be happy with a 911 since i have a 22 month old little girl who were always taking out.

LOL! we're on the same boat. The TL was my first purchase in 10 years. I've always leased something over $90K.

And, when our son (now 3 years old) was born, the 911, Vantage V8 and a Gallardo went bye-bye.

No offense but most of these "stories" I hear about rich folk downsizing because of money issues is a load of crap. The Real reason is fear....fear of being hated and being frowned upon by the masses, esp. in this economy. They want to "fit-in".....so they trade in (or store away) their Gucci bags, Rolex watches, and Gallardo's for K-Mart specials, Seiko's, and Hondas.....all the while collecting their 6-figure bonuses while the unemployment rate in this country is still in double-digits. In America, the rich will always be rich and the poor will always be poor. That's the way it is and always will be.

Ok you got me, I'm scared. However, I have no problems "fitting-in". Yes I have the LV and Hermes bags stored away in their respective dust bags, the Rolex, Panerai and Audemars are tucked away in their winders, and yes I am still collecting 6 figure bonuses (not as much as I would like to see it). And yer right, the rich will always be rich, because they invest wisely and they work hard.

It doesnt matter what country or planet you live in, if you work hard enough, you can always have what you want. For the record, I dont care nor am do I care if I "fit-in"....as long as my family is happy, its all good.

For what it's worth, my family came here with absolutely nothing, we did not fit in. We took the bus everywhere, people made fun of our language, people made fun of the clothes we wore and the used car we bought from the used car dealership that ripped my parents off. So as far as fitting in, I really dont care.
