Hey Everyone, I just got a 2012 TL SHAWD with Advanced package - only 6800 miles. I traded in my 08 TL Type S for it. I'm really excited and have been looking at the body kits already. I have a few questions:
What are the pros/cons of body kits (paint match, scraping, etc)?
Are they hard to install? I've put on some ground effects on a vette with drill/screws - are these harder?
Are the factory accessory body kits the best to get or are vendors making better stuff?
Anyone rather just get the splash guards if they did it all over again?
Any skeletons in the closet I should get checked out before my warranty is up?
Beautiful car. I would've gotten mine in that color except that my other car is Grey. Didn't want two grey cars. I have the factory body kit on my '14. I had a body shop install it and it apparently wasn't too difficult. Also had them prep and paint my grill to match the body color. Advantage of the factory body kit is that you know it will match because it comes prepainted.
There are some who have gotten to the grill without completely taking off the bumper. But if I remember correctly, there were tons of bitch clips that had to be taken off and it was easier for me to do it by taking off the bumper completely. If you do, just be careful not to rip out the wiring for the fogs and I believe the temperature sensor is also attached to the bumper.
I negotiated that the dealer replace my blemished front grille. I have an appt tomorrow for them to do it. They say the front bumper must be taken off. I know I want to do a front lip spoiler and maybe a painted grille in the future. Should I be concerned about taking the front bumper off multiple times? Won't tabs break and it will get loose?
I have taken off my front bumper more than once and as long as you are careful, no big deal. But... it does get looser the more you take it off... actually let me rephrase and say it doesn't take as much force but not to a point where your bumper will just fall off. It looks like the bumper will come off 3 times? Eh... I wouldn't worry
I bet my dealer would be happy to just give me the parts, so if the front bumper has to come off when I get the front lip later, I could just wait till then.
nice OP....I just got the same car last weekend... SHAWD @ 29k miles
the main skeleton is the Torque converter issue. there is a TSB for that here: TC TSB
it increases the honda warranty to 8 years 105,000 miles. get the tranny reflash done asap, if it has not already been done, then if the issue reappears... get a new TC.

That's probably a good idea. This way you will have 2 grills and you can keep the new grill safe from rock chips until it actually goes on.

I can't get to that link, anywhere else I can see the TSB? Is this something my dealer will be happy to do or does it take a lot of labor?
I read a couple threads about the issue and it said it only applies to 9/10....does it affect 2012? There is nothing wrong with my car, so the only thing I would get is the sw upgrade.
It all depends on if the dealer can correctly diagnose it.
For example, I had one hell of a time with getting the dealer to replace a internal tranny filter because the dealer said "we can't reproduce the noise." For the T/C, it couldn't have been easier. To put things into perspective, the internal tranny filter is a $20 or so part where the T/C is a at least a $500 part with much more involved labor.
the link works for me... the tsb covers to 2011, you are correct there... but my car seems to be suffering from the diagnosis. My car was original sold in 2011.
Surging RPM's, rough initial shifts in lower gears...
on a side note, my car also has the chirping at cold start up... but I can replace a tranny filter myself. (truth be told, I could probably replace the torque converter to)
^ I hear you because when I was having a difficult time with the dealer for the tranny filter, I got fed up and actually bought the filter to do the job myself. Then the TSB was released and dealer caved.
congrats on the new ride BadVibe…looks just like the one i bought 2 weeks ago, waiting on the aero kit myself, its on backorder till March with AcuraCanada I did look at another one while i was shopping that had the aero kit, it looks awesome on the GLM
Anyone with pros and cons for the body kit? I read through the instructions and it doesn't look too hard. I just want to be sure I want it before I spend money on cosmetics.
^ Regarding the 12+ lip kits, it doesn't really affect ground clearance and as far as I know and unfortunately, there are no real aftermarket options. The rear pieces look like they were an after-thought. I know there are some on this forum that did away with the rear piece only and installed mud guards instead for the rear.
I just ordered my body kit!!! I got the side moldings too. I'll see if I can get it put on soon and post some before and after pics....anyone have any installation tips or is there a diy? So far I've heard to take the rear tires off...
Congrats the car looks great! I had my dealer install the OEM lip kit and I also have a GLM 2012 TL. The kit really looks good on this color and the paint matches perfectly unlike the silver and the white that seem to occasionally have paint match issues.
Ground clearance is unchanged because of how this kit is designed.
Argh!!! Whistle!! I hear an awful high pitch, tea kettle, whistling, squealing sound when I drive over 30 mph. Maybe it takes a while for something to warm up? It doesn't matter what gear I'm in (still hear it in neutral). I did a search and it sounds like I have the propeller shaft problem - does anyone have any information on this? Anyone have any new information on threads like this one?
