New Member; 2012 TL SH-AWD Tech Manual
Hey Folks, my name is Mike and I just joined up a few moments ago and wanted to introduce myself.
Yesterday I took delivery of my car and i have to say I can't be happier, at least so far. The car is CPO'd with 7,200 miles on it and it was never registered to a civilian, only dealer owned. Don't know if this is a blessing or a bad thing but it's in showroom condition. Not to say that it couldn't have 7K miles of parking lot donuts being done by a hotshot sales guy with the demo car
I'm sure most of you who only drive true manuals (three foot pedals) are realizing how the demise of these transmissions are in full swing. It's bad out there; with only the lowest forms of transport or the slickest of uncomfortable "rally" cars coming with manual transmissions; I'm a Dad with two little kids.
I'm 46 years old and have never owned a Japanese car, excluding my wife's Sienna, mostly owning VW's and Audi's. My last before the TL being a 2006 A4 S. Unfortunately of late, it's was acting like a German car and throwing codes and just causing general unease in my life. To be honest I would have gotten the new A4 convertible, but guess what? No manual tranny. So what to do? I've been looking at the AWD TL for some time now but the new they are a lot more than i'm willing to spend on a car and gently used TL's with a manual are a rarity. So Monday i was just casually browsing the web when i came across my car about an hour away, for $31,300. I couldn't let it pass me by. You can tell me if I did bad/good/great with this price, if your inclined. They also gave me full "excellent" status book for my Audi, which is unheard of (for German cars).
So here I am; not where I ever expected to be.
I am a member of a couple of forums which I'm on religiously, mostly for my 1984 BMW Airhead motorcycle that i just finished rebuilding and i'm familiar with all the protocols and do's and don'ts, the biggest of which is don't ask a question without researching first. However, fortunately or unfortunately, this site is VERY comprehensive with many overlapping sections; so here's my first question: Where should i go on this site to research expectant problems for my vehicle? the "Garage" or the General forum for my generation? I know, i know, it's a Honda and i won't have any expectant problems, but i want to cover my ass...
Thanks in advance,
MB

Welcome to the forum! Great opening post - you got one hell of deal! I don't know if i could help myself if I saw a deal like that surface in my area. I two am a dad of two little ones and have found the TL ('08 Type S... auto) to put my mind at ease while having a somewhat stylish and reliable daily driver. Although, it's really just a matter of time before I jump back into a manual. I have to do it at some point before they're all gone.

Welcome and congrats. You'll love the car. Worry not about the problems - they should be few and far between

Manual Loaner? I have never heard an Acura dealer offering a 6 speed as a loaner. Wonder what the real story on your car was.

You definitely got a hell of a deal! Congrats on your new addition. I too was dead set on getting a manual and found it left me very little to choose from. It's not easy to find a RWD/AWD manual in a well performing luxury sedan that seats 4 adults comfortably and doesn't cost $50k+.

Thanks for the kind words folks.
Mr. Marco, I didn't say it was a loaner and i sure hope it wasn't. According to the records the car was purchased and "in-serviced" by "Suburban Collection" in Troy, Michigan and my dealer in NJ got it with 7K miles. In both places it was considered "corporate fleet".

Congrats on the purchase. I think you will be very satisfied with the SH-AWD 6MT. I owned two FWD automatic TL's and while both were great cars I was simply tired of auto trannys. I had not owned a manual for nearly 9 years and it took quite a while to find a new 6MT. Fortunately I found one a little over a month ago and have been happy as hell ever since. For a fairly heavy 4 door sedan this car is a blast to drive when equipped with the AWD and 6MT!
Very nice find to pick that up used with so few miles. Be interesting to find what the story is behind it, but regardless you will thoroughly enjoy driving your MT.

I saw one too...When i was shopping for my TL manual in 2010, Acura of Seattle had a gray 6MT loaner with Taupe interior, I remember it very well...

Very nice car. Looks sharp.
PS: We can barely see the stick shift in one of those pictures though
