New to me, '09 TL base

Hello all, just got a new TL, upgrade from my old Type S 2nd gen.

She's an 09 base, Triple Black, I even put on a spoiler and painted the grill black. I was wondering what's the easiest non permanent way to black out the tail lights and headlights or does it look okay as is?

How does one post pictures?

Peroxisome....Let me be the first in giving you the "Congrats" on your new to you TL!! I am confident that you will enjoy every single minute behind this car. I know alot of people will say that the SH-AWD is the only way to go but let not discourage you. Your TL wil bring you years of enjoyment.

As far as posting pics...which we all wanna see...you need to host through a web site like photobucket. Hopefully you can create an account and copy the link from that hosting site directly on here.

Now as far as the coloring the headlight, I do very little mods to my car except the OEM bodykit which was installed by the dealership so I can't help you.

Again, welcome to the club of 4th generation owners ... I am sure you will make great friends here

Hello Weather, thanks for the kind words, I really had wanted the 2010 and up Type SH so I could get the 6 speed but I'm actually happy with the base, dont really feel like I'm missing out. I was double minded on the grill and had it painted when I was getting the spoiler and am glad that I did.

Welcome to the 4G family.

It'll sure feel a lot safer driving a 4G, rather than the 2G on which the crappy-designed tranny is like a ticking time bomb that could fail at any moment.

nice car, does the grille have any gloss to it, looks like a big difference between the hood and grille, maybe it is just the camera phone

peroxisome...... congrats on your tl! looks great, i really like your painted grille.

your tint looks good too, is it 35%? the tl looks naked without the rear spoiler, nice.

you could have your tails lightly tinted. and your headlights can be cleared, and blacked out by az member: JNC

thanks guys, I know the felling, I'd already replaced the tranny on the 03 once

I think the camera phone does not do it justice, it's glossy but there is a bit of a color difference, not sure why, maybe I will take it back to the paint guy and see if they can even it out.

No idea on the tint %, it came like that but in Florida you need it to be as dark as paint, will check out the reference for the lights

Glad to be here, thanks again...

the tint law in WI is like 50 or 60%. so i went the safe route with 35%.

i could have gone 20%, but didnt want to risk attention from the cops.

Congrats, I also recently bought a base 09 TL. Graphite metallic w/parchment interior. I love it. I upgraded from a 02 Mazda Protege. Much overdue. I didn't see a need for the SH-AWD or Tech Pkg. At $28k with 15k miles, I'm happy. Anyway, where did you buy your rear deck lid spoiler? I've been shopping online just waiting to pull the trigger on something. What did you pay for the spoiler and paint/install? Thanks and enjoy your new ride!

Congratulations, it's a beautiful car all around. The spoiler I actually got it from eBay, here is the link for an OEM it was only $70 bucks but I had to get it repainted and installed which was another $100 in Florida but well worth it

If you are tryna go the blacked out route. For the lights you can do Lamin-x overlay's. As most said go through the 4g tl section picture gallery and get some ideas. there are a couple of guys that have done it.

It may have died back, meaning dulled out once the paint cured. This happened from an excess amount of clear, or piling on too much clear.

That's a good deal on eBay. I got a body shop quote for $125 (paint and install). I don't have the confidence to take a power drill to the trunk lid. I may have my grill color matched as well. I really don't mind the silver, but the consensus seems to be color matched. What's your next mod/add? After seeing forum pics, I have to put 20's on this thing!

So I bought the ebay spoiler. Did you notice that it's not the same as the factory installed one even though it's an OEM part? Check out other pics on this forum. The factory one is shaped different. The most noticeable is how the corners taper into the trailing edge. Also the bottom corners come down level with the top of the tailight housing. This one seems to not sit as flush to the trunk as the factory installed version. Double sided tape makes it sit up about 1/8". Anyway the price was right but I wish I would have caught it before hand. The factory installed one is a better design and fits better.

^^^^^ I don't understand.

You said you bought an OEM spoiler on ebay, but it's not the same as the factory ones.

Isn't OEM spoiler = factory spoiler ?
