NEW GUY-soon to be owner

Just paid to have THIS transferred to Virginia, currently I drive an Audi A3 2006 and have loved it, but as I get older, income has gotten better, and tolerance for noise and that "Sport" feel of the road has gotten lower.

G35, ES350, Genesis and S80 all were test drove, but I still kept coming back to the TL.

One owner car who paid cash for it, only 8k miles on it and they traded it in to Car Max in Florida. Should be here in a few weeks. Grey with Black Interior and Tech package.

So my questions are this:

1. What are the issues I should expect
2. What are some neat tricks concerning the Tech package that people have learned
3. If you were buying this car, what would be the first thing you would do to it (Dealer for checkup?)
4. What mods are most popular and do you recommend.

Thanks in advance for your responses, looking forward to an all new Forum for me, the Audi peeps are saying im screaming mad for saying no to the A4.

first of all congrats.
1. not many common issues but one that keeps popping up is inerior rattles from the rear deck area.
2. there are lots of cool things you can do with the tech package. my favorite is being able to use voice commands and the ipod integration is good too.
3. first thing I would do/did is tint and then LED conversion for the doors and license plate lights.
4. wheels for sure, lowering, lip kit.

there are lots of ideas on here you just have browse. good luck!

yeah, just need to get to learn my way around the forums here and get to know the folks. All my wife said was... "here we go again" when I started chatting up a guy last night in the starbucks parking lot about his headlights.

For a little more why wouldn't you just get a brand new 12?

Welcome VA-you'll find Acurazine pretty user friendly and a wealth of information. Get a lot of mod ideas from the Photography Section. We've also got a Search Engine that is helpful too.

Thanks for the warm welcome. First let me tell you a little something about me. I enjoy cars, but im practical as well.

Cars are not women, well, actually, now that I think about it, I really dont care who used to drive my wife, or how hard she was driven. As long as no one but me drives her now.

So to me, to get a 2012 Technology would be another 4 grand that I would rather spend on other things. Never have been a "New Car" guy. Soon as you pull it off the lot the extra money you paid to get a new car goes POOF anyway.

I have tried the search feature in the photo section, didnt work well at all. So I am assuming user error. Will spend more time today in there.

Keep the replies coming as you think of them!

VA, you're absolutely correct on the financial aspect of the situation. I wouldn't waste the extra money on a new car. However, I would spend a little extra to get a certified pre-owned vehicle and the Acura care warranty. Even though you don't care how your wife has been driven before, you certainly wouldn't want any problems with her down the road as you spend your years together. You'll find that if you finance through Acura, the CPO rates are comparable to the new car rates.

There really aren't that many complaints regarding mechanical or technical issues with the car. It's a hit or miss with some people - 1 out 4 would experience the weirdest things. Check the problems and fixes for additional information.

The technology in the vehicle is simply amazing. I'll leave it at that.

Some tasteful mods would include window tints, body kit, along with swapping out some of the interior and license plate stock bulbs for LED. Lastly, I prefer the 18" wheels on the FWD model that are illustrated on the web link you presented opposed to the 17" wheels.

Good luck!

The price is too high. I paid 34,300 for the same car, bran new, but in another color. BTW I am in Pembroke Pines.

I've had my '11 almost a year. So, far I've had no mechanical problems. I have noticed in the last few months rattles developing somewhere in the center stack. They present themselves only on a certain type of surface. Very distracting none the less. Reading post on this site, you will note that rattles seem to be a common occurrence in these cars. As for the Tech Package, the sound system is just outstanding. With a DVD-A, you will not believe just how great it sounds. Some posters have had to replace their door speaker. I've not had such an issue with my car. Also, with Tech, you get the rear view camera, something that comes in very handy. The car is hard to see out of backing up. My car has delivered about 22 MPG from the beginning. I drive it to work everyday which is a combination of city/highway. I do hate how the tilt wheel functions and it's small glove compartment. Also, be aware that the rear seat does not fold down. That is a non issue for me, but some on the forum have complained. All in all the TL is a very nice car and is a blast to drive. I'm sure you will enjoy TL ownership. However, I do vote with some of posters that the price they are asking for the car you are considering is too high. My guess is that you could find a newer TL for the same money. My new '11, bought in October of last year, was not very much more than what they are asking for this '10. Anyway, regardless of what TL you get, I'm sure you will be pleased with it.

My concerns on the 18"'s is that the ride will be rougher. And I have paid $700 for the transfer but thats it. I have a request in with the local Acura dealer for a PC on a 11 or 12 2WD with Tech Pkg and same colors. We will see how that pans out.

They expect the tranfer to take a few weeks, so I have time to shop around.

17" to 18"...negligible change in ride quality. now 17" to 19" you might notice a significant difference.

your gonna love your tl, congrats! ive had my 2010 tl for just a week, and im very glad i got it. one of the cool tech options is the cd recorder. you put your cd in, and it will record it! the system can hold up to 3600 songs. i have the 18 inch wheels, and i think the ride is very nice compred to my 2005 tl. the price seems fine to me, considering it has such low miles.

I always knew that 2 inches would make a difference and this confirms it (lol)

All kidding aside, I have no doubt that you will enjoy your TL. I loved my 2009 TSX but this car is in a league of its own! Despite what most car reviewer says about the abundance of buttons, I just love driving this car at night.....such a wonderful looking cockpit!! Despite the praise for the Audi and BWM interiors, I find these way too bland for me and just love the look of the cluster/dash and most who have had the chance to ride with me at night ALL comment on how cool this car is at night.

KBB brings the car in perfect at its price, and finding a 2011 with the same color/pkg options is proving to be tough at least on the internet within 200 miles. And a 2012 is coming in a few bucks shy of $40K, which is a lot to pay to get 2 more speakers, slightly different nose, a 6th gear in Automatic and 8K miles back.

But I am still heading to the dealer Monday at lunch to try my luck, my car is not scheduled to be put on the trailer in Florida for its trip to VA until Tuesday, so I have a small window to work in before I loose my non refundable transfer fee.

But I gather that LED light packages, a lip spoiler and tinted windows are the first things on the list I should consider. And its good to know I can plop some of my favorite albums down onto the HD. Just wish I could transfer the iPod Library to it. Also a big Sirus/XM fan, so that will get activated first day as well.

I do one hour each way on a straight stretch of interstate between 70-80MPH to get to work each day, definately looking forward to getting out of the 06 A3 and into the cockpit of a new TL Technology package.

Keep the ideas coming, and I will update as things develop, hopefully culminating in pictures in the end. Because after all, whats a thread if it doesnt have pictures!

Oh and TLgirl, awesome Avatar, it says it all!

You can connect your iPod to the stereo and control it through the center controls and steering wheel buttons.

Yeah, that much I know, but it would be nice to simply transfer the music, album covers and pictures to the HD and thus have it display on the Nav Screen as songs play. Then again, I want a hot tub in the trunk too.... one can always dream.

Oh, and I live in Richmond, and work in Hampton for those in the area.

In case there are any Audi enthusiasts lurking about, here are some pics of what is getting replaced by a TL

I got quoted $35,700 (including destination) for a new 2012 TL w/ Tech, and $37,200 if I finance through Acura - this is in SoCal. TTL is extra. Hopefully you can manage similar prices in your area!

and you would know different? 17's came stock on my TL, then i went with 18's. i didn't feel much of a difference. others have gone up to 19's with shorter sidewalls and had increased road feel compared to stock set up.

you're a weatherman correct? short of living in CA, why can't you guys get the forecast right?

Well, I got a 2011 Gray with Taupe Interior TL with Tech for 36500 out the door..... then I turned around and bought the interior protection plan that has the Carpet and Leather Treatment and free bottle of Clay based polish.

but I did get all weather mats and a free keychain on the wheel agreement!

Pictures by the weekend promise.

Hi All,

I am new here. Placed an order for 2012 TL SHAWD - Elite (Canada) on September 3 and still waiting L .In 2003 I got G-35 instead of TL. I was not driving sedans since 2006 ( I currently drive SRX V8). I looked around (G-37, I35, A-4, IS 350) and almost bought Hyundai Genesis R 5.0 Since Genesis does not have AWD, I chose TL. I hope I made a right decision. Will keep you informed.

Didn't mean to doubt your statement or be rude....it was intended to be a joke that had nothing to do with the size of tires.

With respect to your other question, you are correct in that I am a weatherman. Trust me, I get alot of flack for the weather here too! We really try hard but without trying to make excuses, we are only as good as the forecast tool we use, if they let us down, our forecast will also suffer. I keep telling people that a guys who uses a measuring tape that in not accurate will make inaccurate measurements all the time....not because he not good at using it but simply because his tool let him down.

Thanks guys, lots of useful info. Special thanks to “weather” for a topic about “aero kit” and photo.

Ps

I was thinking to get a complete kit, but now I am not sure.

ACCURAT...No problem...Glad I could be of help. Alot of folks helped me out here too so I am only trying to give back. If you need more photos or feedback, let me know. You did see my pics with the partial kit and mudfalps....It my opinion, the best compromise at this time.

Thanks weather. I took a look at your pics and Stew4HD and placed an order . I am getting a complete aero kit. How long did you wait for your car? Is it normal to wait over a month? Dealer is blaming “a rear combination of colour and package”.

Acurrat...Congrats and glad to see that our car (me and Stew4HD) were the source of inspiration You realize that although we know they will look the same, we will want to see some pics when you get it. I waited for about 2 months for mine and to be honest with, I thought that was pretty good because when I put my order in, it was when the tsunami secondary effects was in full swing so a month seems reasonable...and worth the wait! I hope you you will like your TL but would be surprised if you didn't. It was hard for me not to the do the whole kit but for me, I think I made the right decision. That being said, I have not seen the kit installed in the flesh so it may look really good. I did hold the pieces against the car when I was placing my kit on but unless they are properly secure and fastned, you can't really tell for sure.... Congrats on your decision and I am sure it will look amazing! Did you go for ventilated seat/19inches rim package or the 18 inches AWD TECH?

Hi Weather … thanks for the info. It was a while since I got a brand new car (my current 2005 SRX was a demo). The good point is that your answer will definitely come down my anxiety J I also have not seen this kit in a real life, but Stew4WD’ and your pics was enough for me to place an order. I will post photos of my car with and without aero kit when I get it. I have ordered SH-AWD Elite (19 inches, ventilated seats, blind spot info) Graphite Luster Metallic on Black. What are your thoughts on replacing OEM grill on something like that …..

and speaking of weather, we are going to have a marvelous long week-end here in Toronto. Up to 25C. Too bad that my new TL will not be available L

Acurrat....I know alot of people are huge fan of the RonJon Grill. I am not trying to knock his product down as I know he does excellent quality and alot of folks like his products. For me, I like the OEM grill, especially on the 2012 model. On the 2009-2011, I can see how some would have swapped them but even then, I didn't mind the original shield despite all the bashing. At this point, its a personal choice but for me, I would say leave your OEM grill.

As far as the weather, I know, on the east coast we are having our first day of sunny conditions after 5 or 6 days of cloud and/or rain. The massive area of high pressure will slip just to out south and about to start pumping a nice warmer southwest flow which will also bring our temps to the low to mid 20's and keep our skies mainly sunny through Wednesday or Thursday of next week! I just washed and waxed my car last weekend and since I don't drive my car out when it rains/snow, my car is mint at the moment. I will be able to drive it this weekend but the RAV4 will have its scrub down and full wax job...not to mention putting things away for the winter and mowing the grass and applying the fall fertilizer.
