Angry My question about the 4G is.......

How long did you take on your test drive? I know that sounds lupie. But, last night I went in for my test drive of the SH-AWD. The sales guy handed me the fob. I said see ya in a couple hrs. He shrugged his shoulders and said "whatever"! So I drove it for 45min. About how long I did when I got my 3G. When I got back all hell was going on! You see, another salesman (1st guy's boss) had made an appointment for the car with another customer to take a test drive. For about 5:30pm. They showed up just after I left. So the 1st salesman the one that gave me the "keys" was upset. He said (to me) "its not a loner, how many miles did you put on it? That the "normal" time was 15min for a test drive!! He gave me allot of attitude. I tried to talk to him, he walked away right a mid sentence. Now I'm mad.....
:y uck::yuc k:
When I got back home I found out he actually called my house looking for me!!

If you have a time limit shouldn't they tell you? I am ssoooo angry!!!!

So My question is "How long did you take the 4G out for a test drive?"

Please answer this question!

When I took the TL for a test drive, the dealer said take your time and have a good time, don't hurry back. I actually drove it three different times. He made sure I had a tank full of gas. I had it for at least an hour each time.

It's his own fault...the salesman "should" be there with you during the test drive for feedback/suggestions...the only time I'll give someone the key to himself is if it's someone I know well and can trust (and have their cell number).

Average time for a test drive is 45 minutes.

It's the dealers fault for not telling you when to be back by or how long you can drive it for. If you told them 45 minutes and they didn't say anything against that, then that was their approval. You're not a mind reader, you don't know if they have appointments scheduled unless they tell you that. You shouldn't have to prove anything to the dealer and your salesman is an ass for walking away from you mid-sentence. Gosh, you took a car for a test-drive, not sleep with his wife.

I took about 20 minutes, all the while the salesmen wouldn't stop talking in the front seat. I prefer doing the test drives alone!

I'm sure he'd apologize to you if you return. He was probably just too upset to be rational at the time.

I agree with VTEC Racer. If you told the salesguy how long you would be out, and he shrugged his shoulders as if to say OK, then it's not your fault. This is a dealership problem of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing. Your sales guy should have taken your cell phone number and called your cell, not your home if there was a problem. It's not your fault-you told them how long you would be on your test drive. He was just mad because his boss told him off, so he displaced his anger on your since you had their car.

I took a 20 minute test drive WITH the salesperson in the car-to answer your question.

I find it interesting that so many of you took test drives alone. Maybe it has to do with state laws or maybe our local store policy, but nobody in our store takes a drive without a representative from the store (with current insurance card) in the car.

This is really an arbitrary thing. One thing is do you have a relationship with this dealer? Some dealers will go with you if they don't know you. Your sales guy was basically a jerk to be upset. I took a G35 out once for over an hour, but I made it clear to the sales guy that was my intent and made sure he gave me a car with miles on it. For the 4G SH I had bought 3 TL's from these guys and sold 2 other cars for them so they just throw me the fob and let me loose. I was out about 45+ minutes and they did not bat an eye, they asked my impressions. The SH is so tight right now I can see how they want to use one car for demos, but it is there fault for not communicating what they wanted you to do or not do on the ride.

Depends on the store. We leased one Tech for use as a demo. There are other new cars but we try to limit their usage to keep the miles down on the unsold inventory.

Dealer handed me the fob and didn't show an ounce of concern. Honestly I don't know how long I was in the car, but long enough for my girlfriend to say "You can't bring THIS one home you know." At that point I turned around to head back to the dealer.

When I got back he was excited to know my impressions. I really think it all depends on the dealerships, I've gone to this particular one on many occasions for parts, services, and sales and they have always pleased me and gone out of their way when possible.

Haven't driven a 4th generation yet, but I was gone for an hour the first time I test drove the '08. The dealership I wound up buying it from (Norris Acura West) gave it to me no questions asked other than a copy of my license. The other dealership I went to had a salesperson ride along, BIG turnoff for me.

I went back to Norris dealership, agreed on a price, but told them I wanted a TL overnight before I sign on the dotted line. They gave me a loaner on Saturday night and told me to have it back by Monday morning. They gave me the best price out of 4 dealerships, I bought my car from them and will be a return customer if they continue to treat me well.

I am over 50 years old and don't need or want a babysitter to ride along on the test drive. The salesperson at Norris went over the car and features before I left on the test drive, then let me go. That's how it should be IMO.

I've had dealerships let me have the demo car overnight and even, in one case, for the weekend. I had to leave my own car there at the dealership, however...as hostage, I guess.

If we have cars available, I have loaned them out overnight as well. But it would have to be one of the ones we purchased for the purpose of extended loaners. Again, it's a mileage issue on a new car that will have to be sold one day. Also a certain amount of paperwork is necessary. I just think our no-fault insurance laws are more restrictive than other states.

About 25 minutes with the FWD and about 20 min with the SHAWD. Really too short, but they only had a couple test cars available at the time. Spending a day on a 125 mile trip with the 3G while my RSX Type S was in for service really sold me on the car.
