My new 2014 Advance

So, I was debating on whether to get a newer G37x or a 4G TL SH-AWD. Wasn't really sold on the whole "progressive" smiley grill but was entertaining it. In the end I was able to save almost $8,000 on MSRP so I went with new. MSRP $47,001 for an advance package. (wasn't really digging the stock wheels on the Tech package...I think the 2012 wheels look better.) I got it for $39,028 + tax. Really happy with the purchase although part of me wonders if I should've gotten the 6 speed. Haven't bought a car in 10 years with an automatic, but I do have my 2nd car as a Boxster S with a 6 speed so I shouldn't have any withdrawal symptoms. Haven't really pushed the car through its paces although it seems to be very smooth and crisp. Seems like it tries to find higher gears a little earlier than I'd like but I'm sure with the shabby mileage they're just trying to wring out all they can. I've had my fill of all the Black, silver, and white cars so the only options for me were the red or blue. I was torn but loved the photos I saw of the blue so here I am.

Congrats! Very nice colour. I've actually never seen it in person but it looks brilliant. Are you going to tint?

Thanks. I love the look in the sun. Not sure if I'm going to tint or not. Haven't had a car tinted for years because up until just a little while back any tint was illegal in Illinois.

Looks great, congrats! How come you have "TL" badges on the front fenders? Is that new for 2014?

I wonder if they were a dealer installed item. Hmmm.

Congrats! I too was wondering about the emblems. Initially thought you were in Canada thinking that's what they do up there with their ASPEC versions but then I saw you're from IL.

Congrats!

As for the additional badges... nothing a little goo gone and fishing line can't fix. Just look on the bright side... now you have more TL badges to decorate your garage with! I glued my TL badge on my floor jack! lol

The emblems to my knowledge as a once Acura salesman are that they are a factory installed option, I have seen them come off the truck in wraps with them already attached. Some dearships order with, some without. Ours didn't but whenever we dealertraded from another dealer I would say at least half of them had it. Looks good either way just a pain in the butt to clean/wax around. Congradulations on your new ride!

Yeah, the wheels were what sold me on the Advance as well. And in the end, I only paid $1300 more than the Tech was quoted to me. Well worth that for the wheels alone.

Blue is clean. Nice pick up. The additional TL badges look kinda tacky but easy fix. Welcome to the 4G club!

Congrats, love the blue. I'm with you on the wheels, much nicer than those on the tech and worth the difference in price.

gotta love the royal blue, not many of those on here. I would skip the tint personally, tint on that shade of blue won't be very flattering

those door badges really surprised me as well, i'd get rid of those if i were you...a bit of heat, some fishing line, and some goo gone would clean that right up in a matter of minutes

Congrats! Such a rare color. It's your choice if you want the emblems removed but I don't see anything wrong with them there. I wonder how it would look with a lip kit? Hmmm...

Yes, I know. I was already pricing the lip kit. $975 shipped. Then, I'll have to foot out labor to put it on. Very tempting at this point. Love the car and color tho.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. This site has been a world of help to me.

There are DIY instructions from Acura. You just need a couple of simple tools around the house. It will save you a few hundred bucks. Give it a try, hardest part is drilling the holes in the bumper. So make sure you want the lip kit on there lol.

I don't know about the "nothing flattering" comment. I personally loved the way my tint looked on my 05 ABP TL. (Comparing the new FBP to my old ABP)

Can you elaborate on which vendor? This is an Acurazine vendor, wholesalepartsguy. He's the one who quoted this price. I have looked for it cheaper.

as a tech owner I seem to go back and forth on wanting the HPT wheels and diamond cut...also the debate to rock 19s with summers and keep the A/S on the 18s.

I keep hearing the "HPT" wheels. I know these are the standard wheels on the Advance. What's the HPT stand for? Manufacturer?

HPT is essentially High Performance Tires Package. People use HPT wheels to imply the 19" wheels that come with it.

On tirerack, the pilot ps2s alone are $335 each before shipping or mount balance, so the 1000 for the rims and tires was actually a pretty good deal back in the day.

It's a good deal, but you are forgetting the fact that you replace the stock 17"s (or 18"s) for the set, so factor in the cost of the stock set, the deal becomes less good. Still a good deal and not have to worry about issues what aftermarket wheels.

Just saying.

Congrats on your purchase! The badges on the front fenders remind me of the time I was looking at an 83 T-Bird on a showroom floor and saw "XR7" badges on the sides. An assembly-line mistake as the badges were meant for the T-Bird's cousin Cougar! Even the salesperson hadn't noticed them.

This is only true in southern states. Northern climates get the 19" Advance wheels with All-Season tires.

He's right. Mine has Goodyear Eagle RS-A's which I believe are rated for mud and snow. What reviews I've read haven't been flattering on their life expectancy tho.
