My 8 year old son showed me up

I usually pride myself in knowing every little detail about my car. I guess I don't spend enough time in the back seat, because my son discovered yesterday that the rear headrests flip/pivot up. I thought they were fixed...I'm holding my breath here hoping everyone doesn't respond with a "Duh, we all knew that!" Ha ha. If at least one person sees this thread and discovers this as new along with me, I guess it's worth it!

So it's kind of nice almost 4 months in, to find a new feature.

TL Owner's manual page 163.

"To lower either rear outer head
restraint for better visibility, press
the tilt button on the side of the head
restraint. It folds down backward. To
raise the rear outer head restraint,
pull it up from behind by hand. Make
sure the head restraint locks in
position when you lower or raise it."

......I guess I could see how it might go unnoticed. They are pretty comfortable even flipped down so you don't really notice the need to have them flipped up.

I just wish they had a button like they use to in the S60s that you could press from the driver seat that would automatically flip them down. Not only does it give you the ability to clear up your rear view, it also is a fun/annoying prank to play on people in the back seat (although in the S60 they flipped the opposite direction so it would literally smack people in the back of the head when you press the button).

I actually figured this out the day my 2010 CPO was delivered. I noticed the one behind the driver's seat was up, so being the anal SOB that I am I went to put it down so it was uniform. Unfortunately I found that there was no button to depress and it wouldn't go down. To make sure I wasn't crazy I moved the one behind the passenger's seat up (to confirm the button needed to be pushed to put it down). Lo and behold, when I moved it up the button and spring came flying out. So now, both of them are stuck up...at least til I get it to a dealer to fix. At least it's uniform though

Mine have been up since I purchased the car. I keep them in the up position.

Had this feature in my 2006 RL. Wish they would have included it in the '12 TL's.

He helped me with its first oil change last night. His task was simple though: pour the oil in (while I helped hold the container). That was enough for right now!

^^ good to see ppl start teaching their kids at a young age. i remember helping my dad out around the car when i was 3 or 4!! of course, it was probably limited to me playing around withe the wrenches hahaha. but it's some of my fondest memories with my dad.

Yeah, I wish I would've had this with my Dad. Unfortunately his knowledge of cars didn't extend beyond filling them with gas. Everything I know about cars (which isn't much) I learned on the internet, haha.

I did get his Accounting brain though so I can't complain.

My dad died when I was only 9, yet I still have fond memories of working on the car with him. To this day, I still have some of his tools. I still think of him when I change a spark plug. He used to let me sit in his lap and I would steer. Today, I guess it would be child endangerment, in the late 1950's it was a big smile on my face and great memories 50 years latter.
