Buck,

Does V-LED not offer a good White H11 (Fog) bulb. Just trying to understand why you went with Moen...

vleds does offer an h11 in white, however I wanted my fogs to send a projection beam of light vs. Just being bright. I had concerns that an led fog lamp wouldn't serve as a solid lighting option if I encounter fog. However it would be very bright white to look at. Hoen makes really good fog lights so I went that route.

Well it looks like you have an RL, so I dont know as I own a TL, but I think its the same bulb for vanity mirrors.

Here is the link.

the resistors from v-leds are what i used, you need two once for each side of the car. They tap into your turn-signal wires to prevent hyper blinking.

THANKS.. so ill buy two.. but my friend told me my car might need a RELAY ?? "yours didnt then you have to splice wires and soilder a relay to the wires""you need a relay to withstand that power" is the resistor from the link GOOD? ill jus buy two jus let me know thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LED's use less power not more. You need a resistor to simulate the power load of the regular filament bulb. You dont need a relay, and the ones v-leds sell are good to go.

if the blinkers are flashing faster than normal then the resistors are not working correctly.

Hey this is a Crazy idea I Love it. I want to know what it looks like or looked like.. and btw did you make a Lense for the LEDS/ is it water proof? Im thinking of doing this to my RL 2000 but it might look tacky .. Just wondering.. THANKS!!
I changed my LED Switchbacks type 2.. and the 6000k Fog lights.. THANKS!!! Id like to thank those that help respond on this thread.
Can I buy this LED Strip at amazon and how do I figure out how long each strip is supposed to be. Im guessing you had to cut it ?

yeah I know that but I was wondering is my blinker ok for now and driveable around areas? I don't like driving thinking that i'll get pulled over for my blinker going a tad faster then usual.

hoen 9005 for DRL/High Beam

So I made a mistake ordering 9005 SMD which should be arriving soon to replace my 9005 DRL/High Beam. Anyway, will the 9005 Hoen xenonmatch works to replace the stock? Will that give me the white colored DRL that I'm looking for?

thanks!

Yep, but get the Xenonmatch Plus, not the regular. They're 65W and designed for this purpose. They illuminate white when in DRL mode.

I have the Xenonmatch Plus for my DRL's. It's slightly whiter than stock but still pretty yellow. If you want completely white, I think the only route to go is HID's. (I've tried LED's but they suck output-wise)

Nice job! I love the idea of adding some LED's to the TL,
although I think we should use the wonderful lines of the car...

If you look at the Audi, the LED's are not perfectly level, they have an incline, so I copied those LED's and added them to your TL picture to see how they would look... (sorry for my lack of photo skills) I hope you get the idea.... doesn't it looks 100% better ?

Those do look good, the only thing with the audi, MB, and porsche LED's is they're hella expenisve. They are like $50 a bulb. So it adds up very fast, hence why it doesn't come standard on all their vehicles and you have to get a special package on cars like the e-class and the a4 to get it. But it does look good

I think the LED strip would look good if done correctly. The ones I had on my car before never did it for me, i ended up taking them off.

I found a place where they sell the LED flexible strips you can add to your bumper of lights, to look similar to the Audi's DRL

Non of the LED strips offered on the market compare to the Audi DRLs. Audi DRLs are high powered SMTs with proper heat sinks and circuitry. Even the color is not the same, strips have a ricey blue hue to them where as the Audi DRLs are neutral white and are very very bright. Here are some pictures, this DRL is from Audi S6 and by no means its small, the floor tile is 12"X12" to put it in perspective.

Those are the replacement bulb numbers for the 09 TL. If your talking about the front turn signal next to the fog lights, I have changed mine out to Led switchbacks, so they run white when the lights are on, and switch to amber when you signal. You can get these on V-Leds.com. If you change the turn signal bulbs to LED you will have to install resistors to avoid hyperblinking, do a search there are a few DIY on here. I am not sure about changing out the DRL's, I was interested in this as well, but almost everything I read in different threads people were having issues with the DRL warning light coming on.
Hi,

I have been researching how to replace my high beam/DRL with HID for quite a while. Some people are saying this is not doable. So, my questions are:

1. There is really no way to do this? if there is, how many bulbs do I need? which brand would you recommend?
2. I don't think I can do the installation by myself. So, is there any reliable auto shop would you recommend that can do this? how about Midas? I asked Acura dealer. basically, they will not do this kind of aftermarket installation.
3. how much would this cost?

Thank you very much. I appreciate it!

I am not sure that putting a Hid's in your high beams/DRLS would be the best idea. Since the DRL's are on lower voltage the ballasts might not power up. And if you wanted to use hid's as a high beam flicking them on and off would burn the bulb/ballasts out fast. Just get a different color bulb for the DRLS/High Beams

Hope this helps

I just want my 2010 to have the same Bi-Xenon headlights that my recently (and dearly) departed '07 Type-S had. Any chance that those lights can be adapted to my breath-taking Mayan Bronze, MT, HPT (picked up yesterday--oh MAN!)?

OK, all this talk of LED upgrades bit me and I've just ordered up V-LED's replacement bulbs for my 2009 TL's vanity mirror lights (4), driver's door puddle lights, trunk and license plate.

Now to the two other upgrades that there seems to be a bunch of discussions spread over a variety of threads.....Fog light change to get a better color match to the OEM HID color and then the High Beam change and problems with the Daytime Running Lights.

On the Fogs, many threads say LED's give the color but lack the punch...so why not just change out the bulbs to Sylvania SilverStart Ultra High Performence H11 Halogen in the 4100k color range. The color rending chart for the Sylvania halogens is here.

On the Daytime Running Lights & High Beams.....why not just change to Sylvania 9005SU SilverStar Ultra High Performance Halogens which would be a plug-in to std OEM wiring with no other changes needed.....color rendering is 4100k and that should be close to std. OEM HID low beams (correct?). The DRL would be cooler color and should still work since they are really the high beams running at 50 power.

Doing the two above changes when staying with the stock OEM HID low beams seems like it would give the best color match and performance. Any ideas to the contrary or confirmation from someone who already tried this?

ghanner, I agree with what you are saying above, with the 9005SU. I think this was a topic of discussion between us in another post somewhere. I do believe that I am going to go with 5K HID fogs and replace the OEM HID low beams with the 5K HID bulbs, just because it is a more intense white, then with the highs, I will go with the 9005SU, it will almost match the rest, and it is easily doable and to top it all off, 5K switchbacks. The only thing I am still fuzzy on, are these resistors for the switchbacks, where do I install them at?

Is it just as simple as swapping low beam HID bulbs to change colors? As they are already HID, or is it the whole ballast system that needs to be changed?

Yes, midnite you and I are both brainstorming and I'll be the test dummy for you until you return from Afghanistan . To my knowledge, the low beam change from OEM HID is a straight bulb change out and no ballast change required. Same goes for the high beam (which is also the DRL via high beams running on reduced voltage) and no HID ballast addition being needed or complication to get the DRL to function.

I'm not sold on the switchback change yet...since on my SH-AWD it would like like I have 2 sets of fog lights. I kind of like the amber color down low adjacent to the fog lights at this point. The resistor is needed to replicated the higher load that a filament bulb would have. Exact placement of the resistor and which wires you have to tap on left and right side is in this thread here.
