No wonder Porsche charges $350 to paint a key fob body color. Best it's clear coated too for that price.

I'm with the guy who said, if it starts the car who cares.

How about using a high quality clear nail polish on these wear surfaces on a newer key to protect things from future wear. Won't help keys with current wear but should protect things beforehand.

That's actually a pretty good idea. I bought the 5 year Key Fob warranty (400 bucks, they replace the fob once a year for 5 years). So far I have 4 working Fobs. I told the dealer that they're "lost in my house" so he kept the same key-code or w/e it is. All 4 work (two original + 2 replacements). I paid 0 out of pocket, they did everything through the warranty.

I'll give one to my sis to cover w/ her nailpolish. She spends a crap ton of money on makeup and always has the good stuff. I'll comp her if it turns out nice. Haha

sorry to bump an old thread, but has anyone asked if they can reprogram the new TLX keyfobs to the 4G TL ones?

A couple of covers
Here's my solution to this problem - bought 2 different type of covers off eBay. One is leather and the other is a silicone material. Bought one of each to see which I would like the best. Leather is $30 and silicone is $17.....but either one is a much cheaper alternative than replacing them. I'll use the leather for the primary set and will use the silicone for the spare set. Good fit on both of them - can't really go wrong....just depends on what you like.

They both are from the same seller. Shipping was pretty quick from China - ordered 7/25 and received 8/4. Here are the links:

Just placed an order for a black calf skin case. I hope they send me one with black stitching!

When I placed my order, the original listing description and picture showed the contrasting brown stitching on the black leather. Prior to shipping out, they sent me an email stating that the old stock ran out and the new stock now only has the black stitching. Based on that email, I thought I was going to receive the new stock which I would have preferred, but when the packaged arrived, it was still the brown stitching. Since that was what I originally ordered and the vendor was in China, I didn't want to bother switching it out.

I'll be curious to see which one you get - so please post back once your item arrives. Maybe I'll order a second one once I know the black on black is what they are shipping out now. That way I'll have a back-up once the one I have wears out.

i love those covers you found. they look really good. I bought a zip up type one but it was way too big..it made my key/fob feel way too big and bulky..

I ended up sanding/painting my key...looked pretty good..not perfect but FAR better than it looked before I fixed it..

nasty before

how does Acura sell us such crummy keys?

this was just too big..

tape'd up and sanded

spraying

spryaing

AFTER

Not bad...for a guy who barely knows how to paint stuff...

Interesting, perhaps you got the last of the lot? I'll be sure to report back which stitching I receive. I'll definitely post a picture if it's the black stitching.

Curious though, you're saying brown stitching, but the listing says gold stitching. Is the product more gold or brown?

The listing is correct....it's more a gold color stitching. I mis-spoke calling it brown.

I was at the dealership today and happened to ask if the newer style TLX keyfob is able to be programmed to a 4g TL and the answer was NO. Was also told that the new remotes are considerably more expensive

I bought one of each, and can offer up some points to consider for anyone looking at these (I haven't reposted eremado's pics...they can be seen in his post at 04-08-2015)

As between the two, the silicon adds the most thickness, and is "sticky" enough that it doesn't slide in and out of pockets as easily as the leather. If you're one to stick the fob in your pocket and have keys hanging out, then that added thickness/stickiness might well be a good thing.

Looking at eremado's pics, and based on what I've read, there appears to be some diversity in quality/finish of the leather. My button imprints are nowhere near as distinct as eremado's...clearly the same case, but not finished quite the same. The silicone, as you would imagine, is consistent.

Finally, I learned another difference yesterday when my fob battery died. With the leather, it's easy to find the key release button at the bottom and separate the fob from the key without taking off the case. This is handy if you ever have to physically plug the fob into the slot on the dash, as you don't need to find something to bend open the keyring attachment.

I personally use the leather on the daily fob, and the silicon covers my backup (Driver #2).

Do either of them cover all sides of the fob? I really like them both but I want something that will really hold up.
