What kind of cover do you all have for your keyfobs? More specifically, the keyfobs that come with the Tech package. I'm starting to see the silver getting scratched off of mine and was wondering if anyone here's got a cover for the keyfob to help protect it from scratches.

The dealer gave me leather cover for the keyfob for my previous car which kept the keyfob unscathed.

I don't mind purchasing a leather keyfob cover if one's available.

I just keep my fob on a separate key chain in a separate pocket at all times.

 

I have the red and black one. It's pretty good quality although I swapped out the hook for a better one. Check on ebay. You'll find the one potmilkz posted and another type available.

 

I purchased the Leather one off ebay yesterday. Glad to see someone else is using it. I will probably cut the clip off as I always keep my car key separate from my other keys. Hope it holds up, but for around $12 shipped I guess I won't complain too much.

 

purchased two of the red-leather key fob cover from ebay also. very satisfied. i definitely recommend getting them. I would put the swiveling leather part that attaches to the key ring on the outside of the cover however to prevent more rubbing on the key fob itself.

and for my saran-wrap reference....you'll have to put a tiny square on the Acura sign of the key fob because it rubs against the inside metal button backing of the cover.

I don't carry any other key's with me at any other time. My TL key is by itself... therefor it looks brand new. It stays in my pocket 99% of the time, and when I get home gets removed and hung up on the key rack. No need to take it off with the keyless entry and pushbutton start.

After time it will look bad, say at about 10-12 months. I dont touch mine much (got the Tech package) other than to put in pocket and it is alone and mine looks worn. I had it replaced in my 2008 for the same reason - its a quality issue.

 

Just bought one too, $10.39 shipped. I hope it looks good and really protects, without being uncomfortable.

 

I actually hang mine from a belt loop which keeps it out of my pocket and mingling with loose change.

 

I dont keep change in my pocket, that's another reason I'm so dissappointment of it aging so poorly.
Personally, I'm not fond of having it mingling/hanging from my belt loop, while formally dressed up for work. I would just hope the leather protector does what it is meant to do, while not looking "too cheap".

 

Never knew a leather protector existed. I have seen those colored rubber ones which aren't my cup of tea. I would be interested to hear your impression once you get your leather cover.

I kept my fob on my chain with all my work keys, and within weeks, all the silver came off.

I sanded down the key and painted it with car paint, so yea, it is not gona scratch up again lol

 

i think mines is better, it matches the OEM acura smart key.. and plus your able to push the buttons on the key thru the leather if you cut out the outline

but yea my first key is all jacked up. i have it wrapped in cf, only the back area where the black is. the silver trimming is coming off.. might do what nexson did and just paint it.

 

Mine is getting worn as well. Too late for mine. The silver ones, like I have with my TL and my previous 2 MDX's all did this. The black fobs always look good like my sons TSX and my wifes RDX

 

It looks soo junky when the silver comes, off, IMO the key represents the car, and should be of better quality.

i suggest that you use exacto knife to cut out the button area to expose it.

technically you dont even need your keys at all since its all thru sensors, but since you do need it, then you should cut it out.

 

Got the cover today and it'll work but not quite what I was hoping for I guess. The edges/corners are still exposed as this was more of a book case type cover rather than the sleeve I was hoping for. It can literally completely unfold and lay flat if you unsnap the tab and unscrew the metal pole thingy. That brings me to my next point of the metal fastener at the bottom which I believe is way too wide for what it needs to be. I didn't include the leather clasp as I don't use it but when you put your key in the case and secure the metal (almost tongue ring like) pole it is quite wide. At any rate, it should hopefully keep the face of the fob from getting scratched. As for cutting out the button area, I can't image that would work well as the keys would be recessed and would seem difficult to press. I don't really know why one would care as the entire car is key-less and the panic button is really the only useful function to the key. With the leather in place it at least gives you the ability to press the buttons if you desire.... Just my

 

Now I will agree with you on that one. I look at other manufactures like MB, Audi, VW and Nissan and such, even Ford and Acura could have done a much better job with a sleeker and better quality FOB. Mine looks more worn than the one I had for 2001 3.2CL, which I had for over 9 years...

 

I am going to throw up some pictures when i repaint the trim on my key. I was too anxious when i previous painted it, and put a nice fingerprint in the paint. I am waiting on some fine line tape to do the job. Not sure what color I am going to do, either gunmetal again or just silver.

Originally I wanted to do color match, but i didn't want the two keys to be different colors. Plus the fact that it cost $50 for just a half pint.

Anyways I am still thinking about the color matched key though lol, I will report back to this thread the results.

 

I've have my car for only 4 months and the silver is getting scratched pretty bad.. I carry the remote start too. It's all black plastic. Acura should have done the key fob in solid color plastic too.

Anyway, I ordered one of those leather covers too.

 

I got mine in the mail yesterday. It will work for now or until I do something like Nexson and paint it. I still am able to click the buttons without cutting the case.

 

Got mine today, seems to be nice quality and I think it will work fairly well to protect my key fob from rubbing on my other keys. I too can work the buttons fine through the leather, so I don't think I'm going to need to cut the leather out over the buttons. I wish I had this earlier when my key fob wasn't all scratched up...

Got mine today, here are my comments:
- for $10 its not a big deal, its probably better than nothing
- red thread isnt perfectly threaded simetrically from the border, thus makes the imperfection more noticeable or flashy being red
- part of the fob doesnt get covered
- the screw type thing needs to be installed for security and makes it bulkier odd shaped
- buttons work without cutting the case, so thats fine as is

I will use and see how it feels day to day, and most importantly how it continues aging.

honestly... if it protects the key in a way that it doesn't look cheap.. then it works perfectly fine..

i mean would you get one that has no logo on it and doesn't match the key rather than one that is made to match the key.. and come on for 10 bux to protect your smartkey.. cant really say much about it..

 

see here is the problem im seeing.. its not that you did the silver part wrong, the center just looks crappy.. dont get me wrong, mines looks like that too. anyway to fix it?

 

just gotta live with it, sucks I know. Once I get my tape I will have cleaner lines.
