I sold my '05 TL
and bought a pre owned '09 w/ Tech package with 25000 miles (still under factory warranty) for a nice price of $26,500.....$28200 out the door! Love the change from the '05 to the '09.

Wife and I actually discussed trading both the 07 Type S (20k Acura certified and cherry) and the 09 SH-AWD Tech (20k Acura certified, and cherry) on a '12 SH-AWD advance and an '11 MDX Tech, but the dealership didn't have any advance on the lot, and they weren't budging on Invoice+1500 and Delivery on the MDX. If I'd been offered more than 32k for the 09 and more than 25k for the 07 in trade, we would probably have pulled the trigger on @ invoice - 1k loyalty pricing.
They'd move a pair of cars, get two high value resale vehicles, and pocket at least a little bit of money up front; but there was no interest in talking turkey. We generally buy/trade in late December to get the tax bargaining chip.

End of year, depending on the dealership doing FIFO or LIFO, it's in their interest to liquidate prior model year inventory with the property valuation / taxation formulas most states apply. If you can buy an MY'12 TL in December, you're likely to get the lions share of a 7-14% discount in price depending on how long the vehicle has been sitting on the lot. They'd rather not eat the 15% depreciation; and eating part of it is better than eating all of it. Figure you can barter about 10% of this for a good $4500 savings on a $45,000 car if you're crafty. Some situations the dealer wants to show this as a loss, some they'll want to show break even - just depends on the state and situation.
In previous years, you could gain another edge with the state inventory taxes, though most have done away with them I believe.
Kentucky (where I live) charges the owner of a vehicle, titled on Jan 1 of the year, a usage tax for the entire year on each vehicle titled. It's like $.45 per $100 of assessed value for private owner, and $.10 per $100 of assessed value for vehicles being held for sale / inventory.
If I keep my old car and sell it on Jan 1, then I'm stuck with the $500ish bill for the whole year, and if the dealer keeps the new car, then they're stuck with basically 1% of the asking price in taxes, which if they add into the price, they have to claim as income.
On a $45,000 purchase, that's a swing of $950 in my favor right away.
That $45,000 car as a MY12 bought on Dec 31 2012, will have the property valued as a '12 in 2013. Standard depreciation is 15%, so now my use taxes for 2013 are on $6750 less than they would be if I had bought it a day later, good for another $304 off.
Total "savings" now $1254 to me, without even bargaining - just from tax timing.
If the state is charging additional inventory taxes on the cars on the lot as of Jan 1st, then you've got that chip in your pocket as well. Again - I think most did away with this in recent years.
Don't forget anything beyond 90 days on the lot is also probably well out of the holdback profit range, and likely costing the dealership several hundred dollars a month in interest on the purchase loan. You can use this to your advantage as well.

What do you think would be a reasonable offer for me to make on a 2012 TL s SH-AWD with Advance Package? I made an offer of exact msrp over summer but with about 2500 in accessories installed by dealer (only real work would have been to install the remote start stuff) and the dealer pretended to go along with it, I wrote out check, and then the sales guy called back and wanted me to pay transfer fee and somewhere between dealer cost and retail for the accessories, so I decided to not get ripped off after I felt a deal had been made... Interestingly the same two cars they could have traded for to sell to me were still listed as for sale for I think 1 month later, possibly longer. So, when another one surfaces within my driving range I want to make offer to another dealer. Alternately I would consider an MDX and keep my Acura non-suv I currently love and drive. Would also want the Advance Package features and it appears the second row of seats in heated with the entertainment package, so again I am interested in the most pricey one! Any thoughts on offers I should make to a dealer for one of those?

I paid $49,250 for my MDX Advance in September 2010.

Check on true car and edmonds for prices in your area. Acura has a 1250 cash incentive to dealers right now. Also late December is historically a good time for deals. But per one of the posts above, be sure to consider tax consequences, if any. Good luck.
