Interior care / repair of leather question
This past weekend I was cleaning my car... I was conditioning the leather, and realized that a small piece of the armrest vinyl flaked off.. it almost looks like it may have been slightly nicked..and while wiping it all down, it finally came off.
it's not a "hole"..it's more like a very thin top layer of the vinyl finish was scraped / rubbed off. The entire spot is not that big, maybe 1/16" in diamter.
I don't want it to spread or get worse. I am thinking if I can color it with something - like a dye, or even something I have at home like shoe polish...then once the color is blended in - to protect it with some kind of clear covering? I was wondering if there is some kind of clear adhesive made for auto leather / vinyl that would dry clear, and keep it from getting worse..
Here is what it looks like...
the damage is that little lighter color spot that is just on the edge of where the slot is where you would put your hand to pull the door closed...
I also have some wear spots on my driver's seat side bolter - if I bought some kind of repair kit, I coudl likely deal with that, fix that, as well.
any suggestions other than color it with shoe polisy? is there some kind of vinyl / leather repair kit I can buy that would help this or not?
Acura really should have made this material thicker...it does not appear that the vinyl has a very thick top layer..any kind of scuff / abrasion / etc will just wear the whole surface right off....

If it is still under factory warranty you can get the entire panel replaced. Take it in.

I have discovered exactly the same thing at the same place. I need to check tomorrow to be sure , but it's the same kind of damage that you are showing.

Really? Can anyone else verify this?
I typically conditioned my '04 3G leather every year or two myself and once or so in between I would pay the car wash place to do it. It seems much softer after conditioning.

what do you mean I can't condition it? maybe it's just semantics.. I had a container of Meguairs leather cleaner/conditioner... i apply it to the leather and wipe it off...
the rag got all dirty... am I just wiping off the black dye? I assumed I am wiping off dirt..after I clean the seats, they feel smoother slicker... I"m sure there is a residue/coating left on teh leather?
on my wife's car, which has beige interior..the seats get filthy looking, and when I use the same cleaner, a LOT of the dirt/grime comes off and the seats return to a mostly beige shade... so I assume this product does take off dirt and make teh seats cleaner...
maybe "conditioning" is the wrong word..

automotive leather is sealed, so you can clean it, and use something to make it smell like leather, but you cant condition it....its sealed in polyurethene....
your doing the right thing, keep the leather clean....if the seats get dirty enough, use a solution of woolite and warm water and a microfibre cloth to clean...it works wonders...mabye a couple of cap fulls in a spray bottle
