Howdy everyone...

Howdy everyone!

I'm LoneStarPoke! I'm new to AcuraZine and Acuras! I just purchased a 2009 TL with SH-AWD and Tech packages. My new love is Black on Black with backup sensors, wheel locks, tint (it's pretty light and might get it darker), trunk tray, mud flaps, nitro in tires, and sport select shift knob. Think I'll be getting all season floor mats and bag hooks for the trunk soon... Overall, it has everything I'd want on a car besides radar adjusting cruise control and air conditioned seats...

I used to post to PassatWorld all the time but sold my Passat a few years back because I needed to slow down a little. I had a few mods on my Passat and look forward to doing a few small tweaks to the TL as time passes if I see anything on here that's intruiging. I've had an F150 for the last few years and decided it was time to get something nice. Now I'm back in the saddle and loving my new TL! I have a lot to learn about the TL and look forward to reading what everyone has to say on here...

Out of the gate the only real questions/issues I have so far are: How to get music on the hard drive and how to edit the artist and album info (since we can't download straight from USB)?... (I'm sure I can find that in the manual but could use some hints and tips...).... Is there a way to get the digital display to display the speed?.... How to get the digital display to display the mpg as a number and not a sliding bar?...

Here's she is:

i would get rid of the nitrogen in the tires, that stuffs not easy to come by when you need a little air....

nice ride and welcome aboard....visit the wash and wax section to get some serious tips on how to maintain that black paint before it gets all swirled up by the carwash....

Welcome to the forums and congrats on the purchase.

How many Passat's do/did you own? Maybe I'm off but isn't that a Passat in the garage?

That's the new 2009 VW CC but isn't mine... aka a Passat with different body panels and sleeker roof line... It's a far better looking car than the current Passat...

And don't lose the nitrogen in the tires. It won't leak out like plain old air. The only time you would need to add would be if you got a hole in it. Enjoy the ride.

The nitrogen is also less prone than air to significant temperature-related tire pressure changes triggering the TPMS idiot light.

The Crystal Black TL, is one sexy beast

Great choice by the way the SH-AWD TL is one of the best automotive purchases I've ever made.

here in north tx this time of year I see 5lb changes w/ the tire psi w/ our temp swings

what can one reasonably expect to pay for a nitrogen fill? (better yet how would one know that's actually what went in and not reg air)

very nice lonestar

Congrats on the loaded-up purchase LoneStar. It sounds like a great package you got for your SH-AWD.

Congrats Lonestar! Black is always beautiful I noticed in the rear photo that you only have 2 back-up sensors and that there's none in the rear corners......isn't that a problem when there's an object near the corners?

Love that clip on Gay Leno, man he's so lucky to be that rich and such a dork, but a great clip nevertheless, thanks S2000. This is the my first intro to Nitrogen, so is it really worth doing? How much does it cost?

Yeah, it's not that big of a deal... I guess it matches the "special" stitching of the SH-AWD with perforated leather... I don't know if I would have got it if they car didn't already have it...

Here are some pics:

Besides the looks, is the sports shifter any bigger/thicker than the standard knob?

Lonestar. . . congrats on the new 09. . . .once you upload CDs into the hard drive (there is a setting yo do this automatically) you can edit artist and song titles and also create playlists. IMO the HDD quality is a bit better then ipod, similar to original CD (but not near DVD-A !!!)

PetesTL. . . .can you elaborate on how to order a painted grill? Thanks

Does anyone know what the HDD MP3 compression rate is for sure? I've heard that it's 128Kbps but that's not good and there's no way that would be any better than my iPhone or iPod's, as I put AIFF files on them and rarely use compressed audio. This is were Acura slightly messed up on the HDD. They really could of earned a thumbs up by giving us options on how music was recorded to the HDD. Most owners won't get into it like I do, but it's giving you a great option, just limited.

So TLevation09, it must be your source as to why the HDD quality seems better? All these formats and media types are only as good as your source. The advantage of using DVD-A is you can mix for multiple channels, capacity, 5.1 etc..., and you can use a very high 24 bit-rate and a frequency of 96Khz, but your source must be the same otherwise a conversion will be made and information will be lost in the transfer.

bmode. . . .I dont know the compress rate for the HDD, but it sounds better than 128 bps. Can you expand on which format you use to upload music into your ipod for best sound? Obviously with Itunes downloads there is no choice, but I'd be curious which format brings the best results from CDs.

First off, I'm on a Mac, and most people know the Mac is the best platform for audio work as the software for the Mac is unparalleled. That being said, most of my iPhone is loaded with AIFF files at 44.1khz/16-bit (Audio Interchangeable File Format). You can use iTunes for extracting CD's with this format, you just have to set the import preferences. Make sure you use the highest quality when ever possible. 16-bit/44.1Khz.

Downloaded iTunes songs are in the M4P format, and Apple is now using better quality compression rates for standard downloads as the first generation 128Kbps weren't very good quality, and they knew that, so we're all to benefit, especially now that hardrives are getting bigger and cheaper for all portable devices. So, to answer your question, the best format to get to CD is the uncompressed audio tracks, meaning AIFF or WAV files. After that, use MP3, but set it at the highest quality so you won't lose that much info, 320Kbps! 320Kbps is a pretty good sound file too, it's very hard to hear the difference between 320 and AIFF files. You need a really good playback system to hear the difference, and most likely it won't be very noticeable. Hope this helps.

Nice TL Lonestar! My Passat lease is up next month so jumped the gun and picked up a new TL this weekend. Couldn't pass on the deal. Love the car so far.
