How many miles on new vehicles are acceptable

My first post here - joined about a month ago and was browsing through lots of important information on this board

Just want to know when you guys picked up your new TL how many miles had on it ?

How many miles are acceptable and can you refuse the delivery if they are above a certain number ?

Mine, just picked up yesterday, had 5 miles on it. When I purchased the car they estimated that it would be delivered with about 5 miles on it, all their cars do. The dealer also promised me that it would not be driven by anyone, other than dealer staff in their efforts to prep it for delivery.

I'm picky and look for under 10 miles, my AWD had 150 on it becaue I got it out of state and they drove it half way to me. But I have routinely walked away from cars that had more 30-50 miles on them. Of course depending on supply and demand you can't always get what you want.

Dyno/leak/rattle @ the factory, on and off the transport vehicle, shipping lot, dealer lot and road test. If you buy a car that had been sitting on the lot for awhile figure a couple of test drives.

I am picky too and anything over 5 miles bugs me since I am after all buying and paying for a new vehicle. But to me any thing in the single digits is acceptable. Mine had 3 miles and 2 miles were put on by myself during a test drive.

Depends on how much you want a certain color. It might have to traded from another dealer which adds on the miles.

We had a storage lot about 2-3 miles down the street where we took most of the cars when they came in so up and back adds some miles

I had about 17 miles - the distance it was driven from the other dealership where it came in. I have no problem with these freeway miles -- I just want to make sure it was never test driven. It had come in the day before.

99% of the cars fresh out of the truck will have from 3 to 10 miles on it. It is common for a car to have 20+ miles on it considering that it has been taken on test drives and all. If your car is a "locate", meaning that they had to get it from another dealer, you can expect a lot more, depending how far they had to go. I always disclose that to my customers when I'm bringing a car from far away.

I guess it depends on your tolerance level and the situation. My 1.5 month old TL AWD base came with 265 miles which is WAY beyond my tolerance level. The stealership told me the day I came with my check instead of the day we agreed on the price which I thought was a little slimey. He said he forgot to tell me. I should have played the game with him then and there.

But, I took it home as it was the only AWD on the lot with everything that I wanted. I also got it for an extremely good price and he even threw in LoJack for free. So in the end the situation over rode my tolerance level.

In addition it was a car with a port of entry from Baltimore for a dealership in PA and I'm in NJ. Add in a few miles for possible test drives and things may have added up.

In the end it didn't bother me.

55 miles when I bought it last week.
since it was the only black SH-AWD 6MT + Tech Package on the lot, it was shown to several people to test drive...

I now have 1150 miles on it... done with the break in period.

Maybe i am one of the few remaining 1% because all the new cars I have owned(over 10) have had less than 5 miles. I have bought cars with close to 100 miles and have never been registered to an owner per car fax and those have been bought with a deep discount.

good for you-I really can not remember what mileage was on the numerous cars I have bought. I always buy new, tho, and keep them to over 100,000 miles. My 06 tsx had 138 miles due to a dealer trade-now has 94,000+miles.

I've probably seen thousands of new vehicles come and go through our lot and maybe 3 that I can remember had less than 4-5 miles in it. As long as the car has never been registred it still "new". We drive our demos up to 5k miles, we have to disclose them as demos but they still a new vehicle. The warranty begins from the date you purchase it.

So my car is at the dealer now with 88 km ( 55 miles) - they had to get it from another dealer who is about 50 km away.

Judging from the response, the mileage seems reasonable - i was kind of concerned when they told me they will have to bring it from another dealer - I couldn't resist $5000 incentive on 09 models that was on sh-awd models here in Ontario
thanks to all of you who took the time to respond

can't wait to pick it up next wed :-)
