How Many Have Read Their Owner's Manual

A few weeks ago I lost my job through a layoff. So much for the improving economy. None of you guys can help me with that, I sure wish you could. Anyway, with all the extra time on my hands, I took out all the manuals that came with my TL. I have read some chapters in the past, but I've never read the whole thing. Leo Tolstoy would be pleased. These manuals cumulatively are about as thick as War And Peace. I'm working my way through them all, word for word. In doing so I found tidbits of info I did not know. For instance, you can increase the brightness of the Nav. screen by turn the interface dial with the rear view camera on. There is a manual release for the trunk just above the trunk passthrough if you have a dead battery or the auto trunk release fails. Just lower the passthrough reach above and there it is. You can create up to six personal playlist for the HDD. Have any of you discovered any neat little features when you read the manuals that maybe some owners don't know?

I actually browsed through my entire manual (an electronic version I found online) while waiting for my car to be delivered (ordered a CPO 6MT from across the country). There was quite a bit of useful info in there and it was nice because I knew what I was doing the minute I hopped in.

It was the first time I've ever looked that thoroughly through a manual.

First of all, you have broken one of the two most important "man laws" by reading the manual

Secondly, I have not been out of work, so I have not had the time (good luck finding a job btw).

Third, if they took out all the legal warnings that serve no purpose except to protect their own azz, it might not look so overwhelming to read.

Fourth, maybe you can take up a collection for posting 10 "did you know this" factoids about the car every day. I'll contribute to the cause for every feature I did not know about.

obviously you go to the manual for certain things like how to link the garage/gate openers or pair you cellphone with the car but he is talking about the whole damn manual.. do you honestly need to read that?

Yeah, good point. I guess there's a lot of info in there that's either common sense or not of much value. I'm sure he learned a thing or two though that he wouldn't have known otherwise.

In my case I was so damn excited to be getting the car that I read anything I could find while waiting, what seemed like forever, for it to arrive. I can't even count the number of reviews I read or watched online.

Basically, I was just trying to kill some time. I'm sure we all do that from time to time. I decided to kill time by reading, others of you might do other things. The TL has some many features that I thought I would explore the manuals just to see if there was stuff I did not know about. I have found a few. For instance, I did not know when the car is fully stopped and in S mode, you can pull the + paddle twice and when you take off, it takes off is second gear, rather than first in snow or ice. Not earth shattering, in the least. Really, how necessary is that with VSA? But it is something I did not know if I had not read the manual. The regular shit, like checking the oil, opening the door etc, like Pot said, anyone would know.

Are you related to AZ member mihink?

Curious because you both sound like idiots.

Give the guy a fucking break man. He read his manual, how in the hell does that make him sound like an idiot?

OP, I guess instead of using your free time to learn a thing or two you should browse internet forums and post bullshit like this. Or better yet, you can change your avatar every 5 minutes.

Linmk, I'm sorry to hear you lost your job and I appreciate your efforts to post information about our TL's we might not have otherwise known. I'm sure as well not reading the manual unless I need to check if what the dealer says is fact or opinion.

I tried to sit down and read my manual once, and I thought it would be a great idea to have a couple beers whilst doing so.

By my third beer, I gave up.

Good luck on your job hunt.

I read through it the first day I got my car. I found some useful things in there that I wouldn't have guessed.

read through the maintanance section (browsed)....and then only use it as a reference like heart TLs said for verifying if the dealer is full of it or not OR as nj2pa said only when needed.

never really read it cover to cover in either car. i think the quick start guide is a hell of a lot more useful.

I've read through 90% of it so I could customize the settings, but I still can't figure out why I have to end up pressing the "Talk" button on the steering wheel 3 times to make a dial by voice tag phone call.

I've also read the Navi manual. Otherwise I won't have a clue as to how to talk to my car.
