Homelink programming with Genie 8600

So here I am again with another vehicle with Homelink and following all the directions they are a bitch to program. I did the reset on my 12 Tl and no luck, also was never able to program on our 04 Odyssey so wondering if it is a Honda thing? I somehow did get it to program on my 07 maxima years ago but it has been so long don't recall. What am I missing? the Genie has the rolling code and I was right outside my garage about 12 feet away still with no luck. Hoping someone has a trick I really don't want to reset and reprogram 5 openers. wouldn't you think they could make this an easier process?

Thanks
Bill

I dunno about the genie but i have a chamberlain and all I had to do is have the car learn the code from an existing remote, and have the opener learn the key from the TL... Didn't have to reset anything, all my other cars worked, all my other remotes too.

the quick answer

I ended up and found this quick video from an Acura dealer.
For some reason I thought the instructions made it sound like you had to press both buttons at once on remote and homelink in car which nebver worked. Just followed directions like this guy said and in less than 2 minutes had acura and odyssey done.
