Help me decide

Hi All,

I test drove the ES 2013 yesterday and frankly was impressed with the car. Price is a factor. The ES 2013 is being quoted at MSRP. I also test drove the Acura. It is definitely more sportier. Can you guys help me decide. what would be the biggest reason for going for an acura over the lexus

Thanks

What do you like?
sportiness...= TL
softer ride....=ES
If price is a BIG factor the TL is an excellent car for the price.

You have rather different cars.

You have already identified a few things: cost, ride quality. So, all things being equal and with $$$ being a factor, then, what is the Acura dealership offering for the TL...?

And also, you didn't answer the question on what sort of ride quality you prefer? If you like a smoother one, the ES may be for you (since it is catered for an older demographic). If you like a bit more stiffness...the Acura.

Personally, I'd also ask you to consider the Infiniti G37. At the very least, check it out.

Don't let your wife know about this!

I have no intention of getting rid of my 06, but if I had to replace it, I'd be getting a 2012+ TL.

Based on cost alone, the TL is the better buy. I'm not a big fan of the grille on the new Lexus cars either.

Wow....now there's the quote of the month.....

Sramas, I've always felt like you pay a lot more for the name Lexus and don't necessarily get a whole lot more in return.

Acura IS a sportier drive, which I like. Plus, the Lexus looks like every other car on the road, which I don't like at all.

agreed, I def say get the TL. I would only consider the GS, but not the ES.

For a lame, old-man easy ride experience, go for the ES.

But for a thrilling, young and sporty ride experience, then the TL.

Just to keep the discussion on the Finance part, the question will be is it worth that extra money at the end of the day. I am using the interest cost also over a 5 year period.

Based on the prices I am seeing for an Acural TL 2012 tech.

Negotiated price: 34,000
APR: 0.9%
Interest over 3 year: 549
Total Cost (Before TTL) : 34,549

Based on discussion I had with Lexus dealer for ES 2013, they are just giving max discount of 1000 below MSRP.

negotiated price for ES 2013 Premium Package: 42,500
the premium Package is the one which brings the features in sync with tech
APR: assuming good credit it is 2.5% for 3 years
Interest over 3 years: 1698
Total Cost (Before TTL) : 44,198

Difference: $9649

Given these numbers why will anyone pick Lexus.

He is comparing total cost of financing in a pretty simple to understand format...

Cost of car + cost of financing = total cost of car.

Is the ES worth 10k over the 3 yr financing period?

Just shows how good the acura product placement is as it competes with A4/3 series/IS250 in price, but offers pretty close to A6/5 series/GS in the size/amount of car you get...

Sure it falls short to those higher class of cars, but it clearly sits between those two classes of cars.

When people are high horsing about a couple trim pieces and general badge envy you know they've hit their mark.

Very different cars, I would not even compare them regardless of price...one is a cushy floaty ride.....the perfect cruiser...the other is a sport sedan....

Depends on what you like.....when i bought my TL I did not even think about the ES....I did cross shop it with other cars.

My mother-in-law owned two Lexus ES's and drove both. Very comfortable car to drive. BUT no road feel what-so-ever and very numb steering.
