We are considering the purchase of a 2011 TL with Technology Package and 18-inch wheels (non-SH-AWD). The dealer said he gave us the dealer "incentive" they are receiving for TL's and the purchase agreement he gave us to take home provides the following:

Retail Price: $40,895.00
Sales Price: $36,642.10 (supposedly a savings of $4,252.90)
Government Fees: $447.00
Dealer/Doc Fees: $626.45

I guess we're wondering if the sales price of $36,642.10 is a good price based on what other people are getting the TL for.

The dealer said the incentive was $2,000 but if that is the case, the above sales price doesn't seem that great.

Any thoughts would be very much appreciated. Thank you, Chris

You need to check the owner's sign in to see what other's are paying for before TTL and their location:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...=689080&page=9

My price before TTL was $37,986 for a 2011 TL SH-AWD Tech Auto with the 18-inch wheels purchased in the last week of January 2011. So the quote you got isn't that great at all for a non SH-AWD TL.

Thank you for that link.

Do you know what the dealer incentive amount was when you purchased your SH-AWD Tech in January 2011?

I paid $34,600 before taxes and a drive out price 0f $37,000 for a 2011 TL with Tech but without the 18" wheels. My MSRP was $39,985.

It looks like on the Acura website the MSRP for the TL you got, a "2011 TL with Technology Package" is $39,035. The MSRP you quoted seems to be $950 higher?

The same package with the 18-inch wheels is $40,035.

Aside from the discrepancy in the MSRP you mentioned, it seems like adding the 18" wheels to your vehicle would cost $1,000. So, if you paid $34,600 before taxes and then I add the $1,000 to that, I should be around $35,600 which means I have some work to do on the price since that is still about $1,000 more than the deal you got.

Were you including the dealer fee in the pre-tax number you quoted?

Your right about the MSRP of the car, it's been 2 months since I bought it. MSRP was $39,035. But the bottom line is I paid $37,000 drive out. You should be able to get the TL/tech/18' wheels for about $38,000 drive out.

I don't know or believe in "dealer incentive." The price of a car is always negotiable. If a dealer is offering a "$2,000 dealer incentive" that doesn't mean you are limited to getting only $2,000 off MSRP. For me, I got $5400 off MSRP. If you can wait until mid-March, when the 2012 TL comes out, do so. You'll be able to get a fantastic deal then.

Thanks Smoothie and Rocket. Rocket, yeah, their quote is at $40,000 out the door. I know they said it included the mud guards and the trunk mat but obviously that doesn't cost $2,000 grand.

Rocket, I didn't realize the 2012 TL came out that earlier. Depending on if they up the trade-in value of my current car from their current offer or when I sell it privately, it could be mid March.

Sorry vinnier, but why bother to post? Stupid statement frankly. Way to much back story to post to someone who has clearly tuned out, but in short like other commodities in the market, a specific car has value based on a lot of factors (sales, inventory, incentives, time of year, next year overhaul, etc., on and on and on). Here's a tip for you, don't just look at the MSRP and say $X dollars off sounds great to me, I'll take it. There's a bit more to it than that but I won't waste anytime educating you because it folks like you that allow folks like me to get a good price in the end. I gotta thank you for that vinnier

Rocket, the only problem with out the door bottom line pricing on a forum like this is it doesn't take into account the different state or county tax rate people pay depending on where they live.

Also, I have no idea if you deal included a trade-in or what that trade in was. This matters because at least in Florida, if I trade in a vehicle, the value of the vehicle I'm trading in gets subtracted from the new car price and I only pay sales tax on the difference. So, if I trade in a $30,000 4Runner I'll only pay sales tax on about $10,000. If I sell my 4Runner privately, then I pay sales tax on the full $40,000 of the TL.

If you happened to purchase your car in Hillsborough County Florida and did not trade-in a vehicle, then your $37,000 drive out number is helpful and a good gauge of what the market selling price for the TL could be. I can't really use that "drive out" number without confirming other variables which is why most people quote the before taxes, tag, etc. price.

Very true. Here in Hawaii the same car would cost you about 48,000 In hawaii they rape us!! But when I bought my 2010 2 weeks ago they told me to buy the 2010 cause it's the same as the 2011. I paid 43,426 out the door after tax get the "gap" insurance it'll take care of u in case your car is totaled or stolen and insurance will not cover the whole car

I hope this helps!

Thank you Rocket. I REALLY do appreciate you doing that. I've also found an individual who appears to have recently bought a TL from the same dealer. Hopefully I can contact him, but unfortunately since I am still under 15 days as a member the sytems says I can't use the PM system. In any event, your numbers will be great guideance.

Rocket, I looked at your numbers which were helpful. Just thought this was interesting so I decided to post it after trying to compare the two vehicles by adding $1,000 for the 18” rims to your sales price and adjusting the differences in dealer fees and registration fees.

Sales Price $34,384
Doc Fees $249
Reg Fees $218

Your total is $34,851

Sales Price $35,384 (add $1,000 for the 18” rims)
Doc Fees $ $626 (I’m clearly paying more here)
Reg. Free $447 (I assume if over quoted I get it back from the state)

My total is $36,457

But when you add the difference in rims - $1,000, the difference in doc fees - $377, and the difference in registration fees - $299, for a total different of $1,606 difference, it ironically works out to $0 on the dot - $36,457 - $34,851 = $1,606.

Total fluke, I know, but just had to show you. My brain hurts now.

was this price for a 2010 or 2011...2010's were cut way back starting early summer...

my price for a 2010 shawd tech was 38500 before ttl, that included tinted windows...that was in july 2010...if you were to wait til the 2012 hit the show room, you will get your best deal....

remember, most people that got their best deals when there was manufacture cash to dealer that the dealer added to the deal, there is no dealer cash availible at this time, so i wouldnt expect to get as good a deal as others have had in the past...

Another way to gauge your deal is to at www.truecar.com - it uses your zip code to compare what others are paying in your area. I used this site when I leased my 2010 and was able to get the car at 6.5k below sticker. This was in SoFLo.

^Nice site.

OP Unless you are being really picky about the colors (ie: 2011TL with Technology Package and 18-inch wheels in Crystal Black Pearl with Taupe Leather), the longer you wait the less you will pay for a 2011. You can't go wrong with this plan.
The most successful savings on an Acura I've ever seen was from a Realtor I know who walked out on the sales manager three times until he caved in and gave the car away.
