G37x or Acura TL awd?
Used. Looking at these two due to awd, speed of 0-60 under 6.5, good to great dependability and brand name, and semi "luxury". 23k is max.
Which of these two? I could be convinced of others but not very keen on getting nickel and dimed to death on German cars with confusing interiors.

I think the TL's design will age much much better.
G37x sedan or coupe? I hope it's the latter because the sedan doesn't look good to me at all. Even though I never test drove the G37x, the SH-AWD system really sold me.

I love the TL and I would say SH-AWD TL but since the SH-AWD TL is famous for burning oil really bad (not all TL's but a lot) I would go with G37x. A lot of guys had to replace the short block on the TL's and they still have the oil burning issues.

I specifically narrowed my choice down to these two cars, as have a lot of people on this forum. Drive them both and see which one works for you. You really can't go wrong with either one, but obviously I preferred the TL and don't regret my decision one bit.

I was in the same boat as you one year and five months ago lol!
I picked TL Sh-AWD for the following reasons:
1. I live in Canada and Acura's AWD is one of the best in the market (it's really sad that Acura doesn't capitalize on this aspect like Audi)
2. It's aging much better than G
3. Interior looks much more modern and luxurious
4. Cost of maintenance is cheaper
5. Love Honda
Choose what suits your needs and what you enjoy. These are our opinions...Test drive and make sure you buy the car you fall in love with
All the best buddy!

Same for me. I considered both but it was the test drive that convinced me to go with the TL. I am glad that I did!

^^ Yeah, once the salesman had me really push the car and I experienced the coolness of SH AWD, I was sold too.

It really depends on what you want out of the car. The G37 is more modifiable. You can twin-turbo it. For the TL the frustration is there is only exhaust and K-tuner. No Forced Induction. It's a great car, with a nice sound system, comfortable interior, but slow.
My last car was a fully loaded Infiniti M45, it was pretty quick and very luxurious. I couldn't down-grade to the G37's interior.
So I got the TL.
IMO the TL looks better inside and out than the G37.

I think that jalash's is correct, when it comes to the G37's interior. Plus, it really felt like a smaller interior, to me, too.
As far as burning a bit of oil, so what? Oil's cheap! Just check it, and fill, as needed.
Now, the propeller shaft, and the TC, worry me, far more than a $6.00 quart of oil. Otherwise, the TL's a fantastic car. I love my SH-AWD, TL. Just put this way, my wife's a bit jealous, of my car.
For me, the G37 wouldn't work. For you, it might. Exterior wise, well, that's subjective. To be honest, I think that both cars look great!
Good luck in your journey to find a "new" used car. What ever you get, do tell, as I'm curious.

i cant comment on the G sedan awd but ive driven a G37S coupe rwd for about a month back to back between my sh-awd and i can tell you as far as driving experience (sporty) goes, the G37 wins however it lacks interior fit/finish and "luxury"
engine performance: G37 is faster, more torquey.
ride quality: the G37 is a little softer but handles better due to the advantage of rwd
interior and tech: TL wins this. for something as simple as interior led lights that infiniti doesnt have. the audio and nav is also better in the TL
the seats in the infiniti is rock hard with good bucket bolstering
the hid's on our TL lights up the road far better than the G
if you get the big brake pkg on the G, you will be limited on winter rims and smallest you can go is 18's as opposed to 17's on the TL
it all depends on what your looking for in the car. im pretty sure infiniti has oil burning problems as most manufactures these days so it really doesn't matter

I had to make the same decision. It came down to the availability of 6mt with awd for me. I had my heart set on manual. I think if i had to get an auto though i'd go with the G. Engine in the G feels a little more torquey, especially compared to a 5spd auto TL.

This comparison is many, many years old. Very difficult choice If you go to G forum, of course they will say G.
As I mentioned earlier, test drive both cars for a couple of hours and then buy the one you fall in love with. Good luck!

If you do any of your own maintenance, get the Acura. Very easy to work on. I have limited experience but test drove a few Nissans and Infinitis. I always thought they seemed nose heavy and softly sprung and they kind of plow like a boat. The Nissan V6 is a nice engine, but ......

I was in the exact same situation 2 weeks ago. Actually tried out the G37x at CarMax and bought a 2012 with 19k miles on it. They have a 5 day refund policy. After noticing a range of only 300-350 miles on a full tank (20 Gallons) of premium gas, I had to think twice.
Pros and cons of the G37: The music system is not that great (My 10 yr old Hyundai Santa Fe had a better Monsoon system believe it or not). The Nav on an Infiniti is amazing. It goes ding everytime you approach a turn ur supposed to take. The power? Feels like a rocket taking off. Unbelievable power. Let me say that again...unbeeeelievable power. You will hear some squeeks and creaks while on the highway and the analog clock light will die on you in 2-3 yrs. The steering is great and is power tilt moving the cluster with it. There is no way you can reach the power seat controls with your door closed unless you have thin stretchy rubbery hands. There is no decent place to put your cell phone while driving, very little practical storage space. Teeny tiny cup holders but massive back seat center arm rest. Had to return it and got a full refund. But there were times when I would get up at night just to go out for a drive in it. Fun unlimited.
Acura TL Tech pros and cons : Just got a 2013 CPO. As soon as you sit in this car you notice a refinement. Feels more solid and upscale. Is quieter on the highway and gets 400+ on a full tank, the ELS music system is waaaaay better then Infiniti's Bose, but the Nav is a little inferior. Tons of storage space and roomier. Cost me $180 less to insure for 6 months (Geico) and the extended warranty is also cheaper even though this one has slightly more miles than the G37. Car is CPO and the Acura dealer did not notice the aftermarket remote starter that it already had in it. Got a killer deal. Feel happier with this than I did with the Infiniti. I feel the TL will have more resale value too as it has a better IIHS safety rating and legendary Acura reliability.
Its a very tough decision indeed. I bought the Infiniti AWD and returned it to get the Acura FWD, got a better deal for less, cost of ownership/insurance and gas also less. Enough said. Good luck!

^also a great car that was on my short list when i purchased my 2012 TL. but i found that, like the A4 was a little bit on the small side for my 6'4" frame…if I wasn't such a big person I very well may have gone that route, I love the looks of the IS

I test drove both and we were looking at g37x fx37 and m37x, however the Infinity's transmission was constantly 'hunting' on passing on highway driving and some city driving. Just that delay waiting for the transmission to decide which gear it wanted was concerning. Though I did like the more brutal sounding engine of the Infinity
Then we drove the Acura TL advanced shawd for the 2nd time shortly after, we had a blast in the snow. Pleasurable acceleration with clean crisp transmission shift. Both of us fell in love with the Acura.
We were very close to buying M37x at one point however the Acura TL 2013 has been flawless and enjoyable with snow tire and rims in MN winters.

I'm looking to get a TL, but only with stick. Which means shawd. The g37x doesn't come with a manual. Although the 7-speed auto on the S is pretty sick. Like someone mentioned above, the G is like a sports car with 4 doors. Quick as hell. Drove my father's 37x and 37xS for quite some time. Getting more power out of it is easy as the 370Z share the same engine. The killer for me was no stick with AWD. I'm also considering BMW.

I was in the same place when I got my car. I drove a 6MT G which was quick and sporty, but the MT wasn't very refined, and of course, no AWD. The TL with the MT is quite nice. When R&T and C&D tested the G versus the TL (6MT to 6MT) they were almost exactly tied in performance, with the TL getting the nod on a road course due to the SH-AWD benefits.
Both nice cars; drive them back to back and decide what suits you best.

1) the SH-AWD on TL really means it name. the driving on curves were much tighter and you could rarely feel the turns.
2)The interior of SH-AWD was much more refined than G37 and frankly Acura was much more manly than G37.
3) TL felt slightly more roomy than G37 esp in the back seats.
4) the music system and esp if you keep Sirius XM, is amazing on TL than on G37X.
5) However the G37 did not hesitate at lower speed and powered up immediately compared to Acura TL.
I did not like Lexus ES model as the ride was way too smooth for my taste. By the way dropped my car to dealership for servicing recently and they loaned me a 2015 TLX. Did not like it at all. I will keep my TL.

I test drove an older (2008 I think) G37 and thought that the rear seat was much more cramped than the 2012 TL I test drove. Not sure if that matters to you or not, but as a father w/ kids, it's a deciding factor for me. Also I am not positive if the G series was stretched between 08 & now

I owned a 2008 G37 coupe and currently have a 2012 TL shawd advanced.
The G37s engine was more powerful and had a better stock exhaust note. The nav and media unit was great. Mine was RWD so I can't compare the drivetrain.
The styling on the G37 looked great when it came out but I am beginning to see the cars age. I think the sedan is aging worse than the coupe, but with both when I see an early model of either they are beginning to look outdated more and more.
Now to the TL, The styling was very subjective when the TL was introduced. I still don't necessarily like the pre face lifted model, but in regards to my car and the face lifted models (2012+) I think they are aging extremely well. This is probably because the design was too futuristic for when it was first introduced and now with designs changing so frequently it fits into the latest segment of car design better than when it came out.
The awd system on my TL is the best one I've ever had (I had an Audi S4 prior). The engine could use a little more oomph, but it has plenty of power for the average person. The nav and entertainment system are excellent I'd say a smidge better than the G37. The fit and finish of the TL is much better than the G37. Better quality products are used in the TLs cabin.
Those are my 2 cents on the cars. I've had them both and think the Acura is clearly a better car.

I did this analysis 2 years ago, looking for an AWD sedan. One of my other requirements was the rear seat, and the TL had the roomiest by far! I drove every all wheel drive sedan out there in the price range, and the TL was just the most well rounded car that ticked all the boxes. In January 2014, I Picked up a 2012 Certified SH-AWD tech with 13K on the ODO, and haven't looked back!

i'm on the market for an AWD sedan w/ luxury features like NAV, a few g37x came up on autotrader, and i was intrigued
currently have a 3G TL, and naturally looked at 4G SH-AWD too
are both AWD equally capable in the snow ?

the takata recall all but rules out the 4G
