G-005: How-To: Install an HID Fog Light kit on a 4th gen TL
#81
Thanks for posting these directions. My lens casing cracked and I think I'll try it on my own. The dealer quoted $360. Can I find the pictures somewhere else? Some of the links are broken and I don't feel comfortable attempting without those pics showing. Thanks for your help!

Any ideas?

That said, if they were working at one point, you can start to narrow things down.
Did you use a relay kit? If so, then since both sides are out, any part of the relay wiring could be the problem (fuse, connections, relay itself).
If you didn't use a relay kit, have you checked the fuse for the fogs. They draw most current when the igniter fires the bulb. It will likely draw more at startup than the wiring is designed to carry with halogens on.
I'm leaning toward fuses. Hard to believe that both bulbs or both ballasts went out.
As far as the indicator in the cluster, I could be wrong but I think that indicator is linked to the switch and not lights themselves.

Only you can really tell. It's a pain to trouble shoot things once they're all zipped up, connected and working at the first go-around .

I have always prefers Morimoto hid kits. When I do my fog lights, I will be going with their kit again. I had one on my Mustang for 7 years no issues and still had the original bulbs. I had the kit on my Edge for 2 years no issues and was working flawlessly when I traded the truck in.

Thanks. No relay kit. I did the install exactly like the OP with the H11 kit from HID Extra. I didn't check the fuses because I think when I looked at the manual, I noticed there is one fuse for each side and since both lights were out, I assumed that couldn't be it. I could definitely be wrong and will check it out.
get a relay kit, if that doesnt work, it means one of the ballast/bulbs are not working properly.. but then again you got HID EXTRA brand which in my book is not high quality. Get morimoto 3five kit with their relay system.

I checked the fuses and both were blown. I replaced one and it blew the first time I turned them on. Obviously something bigger to troubleshoot.
Without the photos in the original post, I'll be flying blind but will see what I can do when it gets warmer.

I hope this is the rebuilt one....I think I got the pictures where they should go. Just need a MOD to update it.
I decided to install HID Fogs from HID Extra and since I didn't see many good how-tos figured I would make one since I use to do a few.
Tools Required:
1 - Small flat head screwdriver
1 - Rachet
1 - 10mm socket
1 - small extension
1 - Snips
1 - Drop light
Parts Required:
1 - HID H11 35watt Kit 6k from HID Extra
Procedure:
1) Drive the car up on some ramps as seen below, or jack the front end up high enough so you can access the panels. (Put jack stands under the car to stabilize it if you go this route).
2) Look in front of your wheel where the plastic splash guards are. As seen below. Remove all 5 snap in connectors and 10mm bolts. Only the ones that have green arrows need to be removed. Pay attention to the longer bolts (the ones that go through the painted part of the body which are longer. Those need to go in those spots only). Remove those Snaps as seen below with a flat head screw driver.
3) Pry back the splash shield as seen below in the direction of the red arrow below.
4) You now can look inside that hole with your light and see the connector that is circled in RED. Picture below. This is your fog light connector. Push in the snap on the back of the connector (Red Arrow) and pull it down towards the floor while pressing it in (Green Arrow).
5) Once the connector is removed, twist the bulb out of the socket and remove.
6) Reinstall the HID bulb into the socket (you may need to twist till it fits into the slots. When it feels like it popped in, twist it so it locks into place as seen below.
7) Connector the factory harness into the HID kit connector like the Green arrows show below.
8) Next connect your ballast to the wires (As seen below). This is the correct way to install it for this kit and this car. The RED Circle means that connector needed to be backwards to allow the kit to work where the clip is on the other side from the bump that it locks into. Push all these connectors into the slots (Green arrows).
9) Test the fogs by turning the lights on. They should light up. If they do not, check your connections and check that one connection that can be swapped on the ballast to make sure you have it correct.
10) Install Ballast on top of the blinker housing (GREEN Line). There is a flat surface that the double sided tape will stick too which is included in the kit. Make sure to clean that surface with some cleaner (Windex works) and let it dry. Run the wires up the left side where the connectors on the ballast are sticking out towards the side of the car as seen below with the Red arrows on the left.
11) Use some tie straps to tighten up the wires if they are too loose and snip off the excess.
12) Once installed, and all working, close up the splash guard in reverse order as before and you are completed.
13) Make sure you push the liner back over this brake duct and the green arrow has a piece that sticks into a hole and that should be pushed back into that area as seen below.
Below some pictures of before and after on the fogs!

Is this the kind that would work with the fogs? I assume H11 is the size? I don't know which bulbs, harness, or ballasts to get though

Ok so I have a 2012 CBP TL SH-AWD. It is in the shop having them paint the OEM Lip kit and roof spoiler and install them, also getting the exhaust done (Magnaflow, quad tips) and I already installed intake (Takeda SRI). Now as far as the lights are concerned I'm a bit confused. There are the low beams (D2S), high beams 9005/HB3, round fog lights and rectangular fog lights. Can someone tell me which bulbs are for the lights. I want to have all white or bluish lights but do not want to go with HIDs (Want to keep Halogens that would match the D2S 8000k or 6000k). Your help would be much appreciated. I've had HIDS before but when they malfunction it's such a pain in the ass to replace the bulbs or go under there to figure out what's going on. So trying to avoid that all together. Thanks guys. Will post pics soon.

Sylvania Silverstar Ultra are the closest thing I cna get to bluish/whiteish shade halogen but they don't last that long either.. They get that color temperature because they run hotter thus decreasing their lifespan. I wouldn't recommend high beam HIDs either because the constant on/off will kill the HIDs.
Short answer: it's not really possible to get an exact color match to HIDs using just halogen bulbs.

You may be right but either way... when they refer to the fog light are they referring to the round one or the rectangular one above the round one what would the other one be called?

The rectangular ones with the colored plastic shield which is above the fogs are the parking lights (sometimes referred to as running lights). They can be turned on independently (along with the taillights), when the hazards and I assume indicators are on, or when the headlights are on. Hope that explains it for you.

The fog lights are the round ones that are plain white light (arguably yellowish) but there is no colored plastic shield, just the bulb.

The bulb is 3457A, like this:
I suppose you could replace the amber bulb with a clear one to get rid of the color.

This is exactly what I was looking for with my 2012 TL but with the entire assembly. I don't see them in this post, but do you still have the pictures laying around to match your post?
