Interesting experience today at the dealer. I called to get a price on their ATF fluid. $8.23....not great, but okay, easier to pickup locally yada yada. So I head down there after work, and pickup the following: 6 quarts of ATF DW-1 (plan to drain/refill twice), 3 quarts of AWD DPSF, and drain and fill crush washers for the tranny, rear diff, and front transfer case. The invoice was printed for a total of $182.00!!!!! What?

I start to explain that uh....I just called on the way and they said $8.23/quart, not $18.23/quart. And the DPSF was listed as $15.00/quart. He heads back and says oh he must have quoted you wholesale, but that's okay, I repriced it. I get a new invoice and miraculously, EVERYTHING is now half the price so the total is $92.00. LOL.

So I either got one hell of a deal, yeah right, or just avoided getting royally screwed. Option 2 is probably more correct.

You can use Honda ATF. I find they give better discounts. Don't know if they carry DPSF.

Save time and money and do it on-line next time. Price is about the same with shipping, but it will save you a trip through the bullshit at the Stealership.

I'm a bit confused as to why you're confused. You got quoted wholesale over the phone, you show up and another employee tries to charge you retail price. You mention the price you were quoted over the phone and he says "oh he must have quoted you the wholesale price" so because of the mistake he issues a new invoice at wholesale price. Sounds like a simple mistake that the dealer owned up to.

The mistake that the OP did was not asking for the price to do the service job before he actually gave them the OK to do so.. getting a price over the phone and getting a price at the time of service is two completely different things when it comes to dealers.. you live and you learn.. hope OP learns and wont make the mistake the next time around

Where did he (OP) say that he had them do the service?
Man, you guys are sure quick to jump on someone!
The guy made all the right moves and you are criticizing him??

What thread did you read? He didn't get any service, he bought fluid and the items he needed to do the job himself...

part, squirt. Otherwise it's just a part squirt. Which is kinda awkward.

Yeah, man...I had a buddy that used to give me his price and it's CRAZY how much of a difference it is when you just type in normal invoice pricing vs what it is if you get it at 20% above invoice. Glad you had someone cool actually sort it out for you, OP. The guy was likely already logged into the parts pricing under employee pricing when he gave you the quote over the phone.

Moral of the story, if you want to make serious money, own an Acura dealership. 121.5% markup on fluids. That's just insane!

Yeah, I was ultimately fine with the outcome. Not mad or anything. Just chuckling at getting half off just by asking. Makes sense that maybe they had employee pricing up when they spoke to me on the phone, but the Honda dealer sold me some DW-1 for our Odyssey earlier this year at $8.00/quart too. I would have just bought it there but since I needed DPSF, figured I'd get everything at one place. The Honda dealer said they don't sell DPSF, only the VTM stuff for the Pilot and CRV too I guess.

Will definitely just order online next time. Seemed the pricing was about $6.00/quart plus roughly $3.00/quart for shipping.

Your Rainman reference makes absolutely no sense, just like 90% of your other posts.

I had a similar situation once when I had to pick up oil for the AWD fluid change. Only difference was I looked it up online and was expecting to pay $15 per locally. Went to get it at nearest dealership, guy gets the oil for me. When he went to enter it for the sale, looks at me and says. Holy crap that some expensive ass oil and drops the price for me without me even saying anything. Ended up paying $28 and change for all 3 out the door. Nice guy overall but that just to show what kind of a mark up they do and how flexible they can be with adjusting prices on the fly.

Difference between wholesale and retail used to be 40%, not sure what it is now. Never hurts to ask! And yes, it's amazing that not being a dickhead sometimes works to your benefit!
