So I was just poking around and saw that I lost 8 experience points today (I didn't ever realize that there was such a thing on this site). I know I'm suffering from early-onset Alzheimers, but what gives?

 

I always wondered the same thing. How do you gain or lose points? I wouldnt find any "cheat sheet" that explains the point system here.

 

Actuall it was -18, not -8. I was using the search function like crazy, so I wonder if that had anything to do with it.

 

Basically you "lose" points by being the most recent response to a discussion. I'm guessing it's to supposedly reduce spammers (of the non-automated kind) who simply add their two cents. Meanwhile you gain points through being the original poster of a topic that is frequently viewed and responded to - among many many other factors.

We used to have reputation points years ago, based upon voted up or down. It ended up being a popularity contest rather than a self-policing tool.

I read somewhere on AZ that the longer your on here - the more points you get.
Ken has been a member for almost 10 years.....and has almost 40,000 posts = level 100.
Don't worry about points - you will lose some, gain some, ect. ect.
