I've had my TL for 4-1/2 years now, and every time I get out of my car I still look at it and think it's one of the best looking cars I've ever seen.

I'm so disappointed to see what they've done to it. Hopefully when I'm ready to buy my next car they'll have re-designed the re-design.

Funny I have posted the same thing, I have owned FIVE 3G TL's and now a 08 Type-S and still every morning when I get out at work I look back as I lock it and smile, damn what a great looking car and awesome riding car. I want a new car, I have the itch badly, always wanted a G35, but every time I drive one I yearn for my Type-S. I want to stay Acura, but the 4G just turns me off. Teh styling more than anything, the exterior, the tire proportions, etc. The 19" on the 4G helps, but the darn beak and ass drive me nuts. Also not a big fan of how when you open the back doors some of the window lines/frame stays on the car C pillar. I just have an itch for updated technology.

I am not a fan of the new 4G TL. One big complaint I have is the rear trunk access. The trunk opening is smaller and the trunk overall is not as wide and a little deeper. I already had problems getting my golf bag in the 3G.

I am also not a fan of the beak, and it is just too darn big.

Hey man I agree with you I also just bought a 2008 TLS and I love my car, its def. one the sharpest looking machines on the road. In terms of looks on the new model it seems like they stepped backwards. If you didint know any better you would think the 2008 would would bt the new model. The 4th gen just doesnt look nice. I feel the same way when I get out of my TLS I walways look back and think " you rock girl!!"

WOW...... Acura really messed these up. The stock rims look like ACURA integra rims from the 90s and the whole front end looks like a wanna be cool SATURN spaceship. There's a list going around online about the top 10 ugliest cars of 2009. Guess who made the list?! I guess I'm not the only person who thinks so. I personally like the new TSX better except for the big wheel fenders. I'm a 2004 TL owner and I feel pretty good right now....

Hate it? No.

This car must be seen live as it's not very photogenic. Sorry, but it does look very nice in person. A hot tire and wheel package and a nice drop = a definite head turner.

Acura needs to get rid of the guy who designs the new grills. MDX grill is tolerable but all other smiley face grills belong in Disney's Cars movie.

Sorry I have seen it in person twice and drove it for almost an hour, still not doing it for me. The styling the mismatched tire/wheel sizes, the wheels look too close to base 07/08 wheels, and on and on....

Sure if you love it all the power to you, but it does nto do it for me.

At least it won't be confused with an Accord. I'm not a fan of the styling of the new line. I reminds me of the Pontiac Aztek.

I work for a dealer...

and I've had many customers come in to see it - some love it, some not so much. The ones that don't like it hate the grill; the ones that do, think the entire car looks great. I have several who are waiting on the SH-AWD to come out b4 they make their final decision.

I had an 04 TL and thought the car was awesome. I've followed the 4th Gen TL for the past year; eagerly awaiting information, pictures, and release dates. I was so dissapointed in the design that I started looking at other cars. I ended up buying an 08 BMW 335I. I wish Acura all the success in the world but, at this point, I'm already looking forward to the 5th Gen TL's. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I don't begrudge anyone that does like the 4th Gen. All I can say is that this TL does not appeal to me and I'm very disappointed that it doesn't.

to tell you the truth, for those who have the 3gen (2004-2008 models) are pretty lucky... I considered myself lucky for having this model, since the 09 look hideous. it's just plain ugly. The 09 tsx look pretty nice, but not the TL. iono if they were trying to follow the toyota camry newer model as well, but those are ugly.

The gaping mouth of the grille is really the biggest issue.

I saw a photoshop with the MDX and thought that it looks much better. surface, style, integration, all better than the current version.

Now that I've seen the painted grill and rear, it's sweet. Sure it can be lowered a bit, and the stock rims must be replaced, but there's no hating over here. 3G and now the 4G kick ass.

^^^ That is awesome! I couldnt agree more. Those who are "growing" to like it are folding. I wont accept this crap. Yes, there will be new grills on the after market soon and they will pull the car together nicely. The grill is the only major problem with the car other than all the chrome inserts/small girly wheels and what have you. The 19's even look small and seem to have the wrong offset bringing the wheels to much to the inside of the car and less flush with the fenders. It really pisses me off that you have to shell out money to make the car look like it should have from the factory so much so that the dealers are doing it on there own and charging people for it within the first month of sales. Also, I think the current sales are only indicative of new car syndrome. Many cars have done well in the first few months and then tanked after. The lemmings will always line up to buy something just because it is new or they dont care to research. I hope the TL doesnt tank but I think top brass needs to make a call on the fugly grill to start really moving these things. We will have to see. At least put the TSX or MDX style grill on the TL. No need for the silver faux chrome to travel 3"s up the hood. Its maddening for the love of God!!!!!!!!

Good post^^^

i wish that they did come out of the factory like that. the MDX grill makes the car look sweet...

I saw it in person and find it disgusting and tasteless. At least witht he TSX, you can swap the front grill for something less offensive.

Thumbs down No!

I have seen this car at my dealership while having my 05 TL serviced. Both my wife and I thought it was hideous. The front "ready to snow-plow" shiny grill, with the cross-hatch grill and boxy intakes at the front, to the sci-fi-inspired rear / accord like tail-lights, they are all terrible. This is not the successor to the style I instantly fell in love with when I saw the 3rd Gen TLs. Even if I were to somehow look past the exterior, the interior dash's new navi bump, with central radio button, and gauge hoods are not nearly as elegant and refined as the 3rd Gen TLs. I'm skipping TLs for a while until they redesign this monstrosity.

Sorry, 4G TL fans- its aesthetics don't appeal to me.
I went to the dealer yesterday specifically to look at and maybe test the 4G TL since my lease is expiring in a few months.

The post above summarizes my reaction and feelings.
I then went straight to the Lexus dealer to test the GS350.
Oh, one note: the 4G TL's large front silver grill piece looks like it is removable, so it can probably be removed and replaced with a custom piece, if not painted over. Also, someone apparently struck the RL with the Chris Bangle ugly stick- the trunk is just horrendous.

I suspect I'll be buying out my 3G if I don't find a non-exotic car that appeals to me the same way it does.

It might grow on me...but I have to say I hated the 2008 accord's front and back when it first came out....and I STILL don't like it. The cars both look pretty sharp from the side, but those front and back's just don't do it for me.

Careful, the 4G TL is starting to develop a more clam-shell hood design. Watch out Saab here we come.

i've been reading through this forum only cause it's like watching a train wreck. sometimes you just can't turn away. i came to acurazine to look for info on the RL but figure i would drop in to see how polarizing this gens styling really was.

i sense there are some new 4G buyers out here that are posting simply to defend their purchase. i know a lot of you bought it cause you think it's a great value...technology package and interior is pretty nice. so here is my question to you.

if you had the choice to have a different exterior, would you want this one? within reason of course...sure it'd be great if every car looked like the R8 or lambo or whatever...but in this segment...
i doubt anyone is walking around looking at their saab, bmw, merc or audi thinking, "geez i wish i could get a car that looked like that TL."

styling should be a pretty big part of the ownership experience. what the heck was acura thinking?

Oh brutha. Okay, I truly and honestly love the outside of my 4G TL? I'm not defending anything. I had the grill and bumper painted because I didn't like the chrome on black look. Adding new 19" TSW black gloss rims just set it off. Now I look at my car and say why wouldn't anyone want this? And forget the inside, I think everyone is in agreement that the TL is finally considered sport luxury. However I felt that way on my 05' TL. So there you go sir. Where's my Hi hater, by hater T-shirt? Way to go Acura, keep out the haters and non believers!

I chose the 4G TL for the great interior, cool gadgets, value, reliability, handling and ride capability of the SH-AWD model.....AND for the radical styling. Sure, I could've bought a 3 series or a G35 but to me, they look too boring. So far, I've received nothing but thumbs-up's and rave reviews from people who've stopped to take a look at my car.

YEAH, WHAT PETE SAID! And I just got home from visiting some family who live about 50 miles away for dinner and was in the car for a few hours.. Yeah that's how much I love this thing, 50 miles each way for dinner. I can't STAND how much I love this machine, it makes me CRAZY!!

i work at an acura dealership i think the interior and technology is nice and there are some really good things about the exterior as well as some very ugly mistakes. maybe its just a bad combination of body lines... ill take a 3G a-spec or a new tsx over the 4Gtl

After looking at all those internet photos 4-5 months ago, I really was disappointed. I thought what were they thinking with the new design?!? I hated all the sharp lines and angles, the bulky fenders, the huge rear, big grill. But I still couldn't wait until it came out, I just had to see it in person and when I did....I was instantly attracted to it. I loved the bold design, the front wasn't as bad, the rear looked much better, and I love that its much bigger than the previous TL. The more I see it, the more I want it...you definitely get the most bang for you buck with the new TL.

Quick Reply: Do you like the exterior design of the 4G TL?
