The 4G is faster only because it doesn't want the slower 3G to see it's nose.

I like the grille of the '12 much better than the '09/'10/'11. This is precisely why we bought the '12 when the '11 was $4500 cheaper. It's also why we bought an '08 when the '09s first came out. The wife & I both thought the "Power Plenum" was atrocious and apparently enough others felt similarly that Acura got the message and (thankfully) redesigned it.

It's too soon to say with any certainty, but I will go out on a limb and speculate that the "beak" was disliked by so many and took such a beating in the reviews that trade-in values on the '09/'10/'11 could suffer. Time will tell.

I would say with 100% confidence the resale of 09-11 TLs will suffer. I would also say with 100% confidence it will never being a collecter car.

So the '12 is already out? I really haven't been keeping up. So I guess I had a '12 loaner when my car was being worked on. That may explain why I liked it so much.

The beak has potential...

The shape of the 09-11 grille is actually good but the fact that it is all aluminum where it shouldn't be, especially over the hood line was obviously a bad idea.

Just paint the beak/rear trim to body color and it turns into an aggressive grille/bumper combo as it should have been from the factory. Lower and flush out the wheels. Done.

Then it might even look better than the sterilized '12.

I think that is why I liked the color, PM, the best. It all blended in and matched my taste. Every where you turn on TV Acura is doing commercials for the 12. One would expect that sales will be even stronger with the changes, but at an average of $4500 more, who knows! At some point you feel that a Honda Accord is good enough at $32K for an EXL with Nav and V6..

Did not at first, but when I saw it in person I was stunned! Beautiful car! Still not too crazy about the trunk shape, but small potatoes.

I just bought a 2012 TL and have nothing but good things to say about it. I think the look is superb. IN 2009, I didn't think that the new model was ugly, but it didn't appeal to me at the time as I was into BMWs.

However, realizing what this car includes techonogy wise is incredible. This is certainly the best bang for the buck when it comes to cars. The power is more than sufficient as well. Handling could be a little better, but oh well. I'm not doing any racing

Acura has infiniti beat as well with the size of the cabin. The G37 sedan may be faster, but its cramped and the looks of infinitis have really hit a low point as far as I'm concerned.

The G4 Acuras are phenomenal. Take it from someone who had the last BMW 5 series body style that everyone panned. It was a terrific car that was ahead of its time.

In life, I do not strive to be like everyone else. If I wanted to then I would have bought a lexus 340 SUV (or whatever its called)

have the '12 as a loaner right now and keep it in the garage with the door closed so my neighbors don't think i traded for it, lol. the front is still terrible even after the beak adjustment, at least the back of the car still looks good though, ill give it that. the front fender wheel arches look like a hammered out after thought as well. the exterior is not where the new TL sells itself.

i like the way it drives, light steering yet responsive. very rare in todays cars. it was refreshing to have effortless steering but still have road feel and responsivness even for a mid (large?) sized luxo sedan. even with the auto it seemed to get up and go rather well. cant imagine itd be too far behind my S in a straight line. road noise seems the same and i have the same tires as the loaner car. id say the 4G is just overall easier to drive and a bit more refined in the way that it feels. it's a nice car overall, just not something i would upgrade to from what i currently have.

I vote for NO because I'd like to see more flat rear end. Otherwise, I am OK. I have 2012 SH-AWD TL M6.

I keep hoping there will be news about a redesign. I realize redesigns don't typically occur that often but due to the failure of this model, I was hoping it would occur soon.

IMHO, the power plenum is polarizing, looks good some angles, not so much in others.

But how can you say with 100% confidence resale of 09-11 TLs will suffer?

According to ALG, the 2011 TL was awarded highest residual value award in the near luxury segment. https://www.alg.com/residual-value-awards-history.html

If you base resale off of KBB with an average sales price of $40k for a 2010 SH tech compared to the latest 2013, which makes it 3 years old, between good and excellent condition with the industry average of 12k miles per year, you're looking at a real life 60% resale on average from a below list price sale.

That's an excellent figure and would only be lower in the event of below average condition, excess mileage, and a higher initial sales price which is hardly any, so it is a very conservative mid grade number.

As far as a more on paper and higher grade resale goes, I know many people around here got this particular car for closer to $38k, and the book lists it at just shy of 70% resale value for 3 full model years, excellent condition and average miles, based on that sales price.

And I wouldn't discredit the 6MT as a collector's car. The combo is a dying breed and already extremely rare in general, as is the AWD system and it's likely we will not see a 6MT and/or classic SH eventually for the TL so I am strongly considering keeping the car even if I decide to get something else or at the very least, how I might be able to do so.

Not for nothing, like the TL or not, but talk about your unsubstantiated remarks.

I know this is an old thread...I seem to keep finding them...but Nope. Don't like the 4th gen at all. Seems like they are trying to make them out to be a Cadillac or something. That's why I got a 2008.

well, very old thread but I own one and I don't find anything wrong with it. Actually, the car is pretty nice.

No regrets but again, no car company can make the entire world happy. Every car comes with its strengths and weakness.

Bought a brand new 2014 TL SHAWD Tech in BWP with Graystone and it's a beauty! Got one of the last ones and glad I did!

Maybe it was a little too far left in 2009, but I must say that the 4G is aging well and still looks better than most sedans on the road today (including the TLX).

Love the look of the 4G MMC. I prefer it over the 07-08 Type S too as I owned that prior to the 4G. Its a more mature, modern look and less dated looking IMO.

Wow old thread... I love the look, especially after the refresh from 2012+. The looks was one of the reason i got the car...why else would anyone get it? It's a polarizing look..you're either going to love it or hate it...now speaking of polarizing how about that new Maxima...

TL 4G looks much better than IS and G right now. TL 4G looks less dated and much more sharper than competitors.

One quick note: Interior of 4G TL kills G and IS any day.

Thank God I bought the TL over IS and G.
