In defense of Ugly Betty
I drove my wife's 2010 TL (SH-awd/tech/6 MT) up Route 7 on Sunday of the Labor Day weekend to the Concours at Lime Rock Park in Northern Connecticut. The morning was flat-out gorgeous: no hurricanes, blue skies, cool temperatures, very little traffic. Route 7 can be pretty annoying but there are portions that are twisty and worthy of the handling of a 305 hp sports coupe that knows how to keep all four wheels firmly planted on the tarmac. I'd occasionally have to slow down for a pod of bikers heading up to Kent or a vintage Morgan but it was all good.
Lots of vintage cars lined the 1.53 mile racetrack, all the usual suspects. I had seen plenty of great iron over the past four weeks (Deb and I were out at Pebble Beach in August for the 60th Concours) but homer that I am, I was really impressed by the (1958?) John Fray Special Champ Car. Go Bridgeport! If you haven't been to the Vintage Fall Festival, give it a shot. Racing on Saturday and Monday, Concours on Sunday. It will put a mile on your face.
It was a two-hour drive north, we spent two-and-a-half-hours gawking and drove two hours heading back home that Sunday. Ugly Betty was a pleasure to drive. The combination of horsepower, torque, all-wheel-drive, suspension and manual transmission seem to come together in this car to form a satisfying whole. I'm thinking of dropping the "Ugly" from Betty's moniker.

Hey, you do need to drop the "ugly" from Betty's moniker - I personally think that she is gorgeous! LOL! She is not a classic beauty, but she surely is extremely striking. Not your average boring beauty queen, but a stunner who has lots of character and personality. Maybe more like Sigourney Weaver and Jamie Lee Curtis than Jessica Simpson? LOL

Betty is no longer Ugly. She's a fine driver. I apologize for calling her a coupe. Brain fade on my part.
Deb and rented a fly yellow, 2010 Corvette to take us from SFO to Pebble Beach for Car Week last month. That was a good ride, too. I was pleasantly surprised. PCH south, PCH and Route 17 north. Plenty of opportunity to explore what this Chevrolet convertible could do.

I've had 3G owners ask me in disbelief if I'm driving a TL. From the front it looks completely different.
