Debadge or no?
Debadge or no?
Should I debadge my TL or not? I would only take off the Acura and TL signs and leave the Acura symbol. Do you think it would look better like this or if I leave everything on? Let me know guys, thanks.
it is in fact a caliper, or a tool used to measure the distance between two opposite sides of an object, and not an A.
however, I just call it an A to make it easy to distinguish

The look has really grown on me and I think it looks better with just the "A". It really gives the rear a more stylish look. I've never debadged a car so is it difficult to do it right? I don't want to damage the paint or anything else.
Most dont take off the "A" because it leaves two holes in the trunk.
its very easy to debadge.
even monkey's can do it!
we want to soften up the 3M tape behind the emblems.
you can use various ways to heat up the emblems.
the most common way is to use a family member's Hair dryer.
if you have a heat gun, be sure not to hold the gun in one place for too long.
another option is to pour luke-warm to hot water over the emblems.
Once you have the emblems warm and soft and gooey, take some fishing line and saw off the emblems!
then, you can take goo gone or a safe adhesive remover to take off the left over 3M tape.
use a lot of elbow grease

To me a debadged car looks much cleaner, just the A would be perfect.
The only thing to look out for is if the paint may have slightly faded where the paint under the badges is slightly darker. Probably not and if so, they can always be reinstalled.

I got it done with a fishing line, goo gone and a heat gun.
Once the glue is cleaned off with more goo gone and some heat, you may have some ghosting which can be taken care of with a bit of polishing compound like Meg's Ultimate Compound and a MF towel.

if some one were to have a polishing machine and a little polish, it would make it a whole lot easier.
Ive done cars a lot older than the 4G and each time, the paint is spotless and one couldnt tell there were even badges there in the first place.
these threads confuse me, why ask us if you should do something so simple and harmless? if you're curious, go do it.
im debadged - there was some ghosting left behind the TL and SH-AWD emblems, used a clay bar to get rid of them and re-waxed my trunk in the process. Was planning on plastidipping the caliper, but i've left it alone so far and will probably leave it that way

I'm obviously in the minority here but I don't get the whole debadging thing. I have no problem with the "Acura" and "TL" badges on my car and don't understand why anyone would want to remove them.....but to each his own. If you don't like them, by all means remove them.
there are some high end cars that dont have badging.
further more; acura decided to save money by not including badges on some of their cars.
and as C8N stated, its a pain to wax with badges!
and I'll probably get shit for this; but if its our prerogative; why did you feel the need to throw your cents in?
Personally, I agree with big10purdue, however really, the only person who can tell you how you'll like your car the best is you. And it depends on the car. If I see a 3 Series that's been debadged, I automatically assume it's a base entry level, and the driver doesn't want anyone to know.
Mods are all fine and dandy, but they should be treated the same as tattoos...one does it for oneself. The moment you do it to impress others, you've made a terrible mistake. The simple fact is, very few people really care about mods as much as the modder. On this forum, there's lot's of feedback on mods, but keep in mind, that's by others who have the same car, and always appreciate a guinea pig.
Think of the last time you were standing on the street and a BMW pulled up, windows open, and some persian guy blasting ethnic music with the dial at 11. He likely thought everyone noticed him and was terribly impressed. But were they?
IMHO, mods aren't much different (uh oh...here it comes). There's nothing wrong with them, so long as you do them for yourself. That said, the only person who can answer your question is OP.

Just making conversation. I don't really think it cleans up the back as the back didn't look junked up or messy to begin with. Something being clean has to oppose something that is not.
Where am I going with this? That it doesn't look cleaner. It looks simpler. It is a minimalistic look which yes is gorgeous; but not cleaner that a nice one badge that looked perfect to begin with.
It is just a personal preference. I like keeping the badge on my ILX. Idiots still ask me what it is. Even cops. -_-
I imagine if I debadged the car I would be asked even more.
I also think it would look best with no emblems on the back. That would be legit.

Yeah. Just for terminology sake. You can think whatever you want is clean. That is an opinion. The look would be a more minimalist look as opposed to having the two emblems.

I agree with almost everything you said , almost because of the "idiot " comment. Your car looks outstanding compared to a regular ILX hence the confusion. I would take it as a complement and wouldn't call someone an idiot for giving me a complement, IMHO of course.

they all mean the same thing.
Well unless we are adding a definition to the term "clean" then it can mean a lot. Some people think something is clean as long as it looks good. I see clean as being very minimal. So I agree this is clean. I just hear the word clean thrown around so much its not even funny. Look up the hashtag clean on IG. Some are facepalm worthy.
Having seen a few well modded ILX, I have to say they do look outstanding and can confuse some people.
Not to the people looking at crazy rwb Porsche with decals and calling them clean. They are sick as hell and if that's clean then sure. But an RWB Porsche is anything but simplistic so how is it called clean. That's just my point. The TL is clean. The RWB Porsche is clean. Both are clean. But clean does not mean simplistic... as the absence of emblems is.
Hahaha this is a stupid argument over semantic. It's just a word.

I've had my TL for a year and a half now and I've never really thought about debadging it until now. I think it does look very good, the only thing is I want people to know its an Acura because trust me some people don't even know what the big A means. But I think I'm gonna go ahead and do it. Anyone know how much time i'll need to do this correctly?
I'd caution people against removing the AWD symbol. That's what tow drivers use to determine how they should tow your vehicle. If it doesn't say AWD, they will not look it up by the VIN, they will just assume its FWD and screw up your drive train. Just because you don't park illegally, doesn't mean you will never be towed.
