I'm also surprised by the number of people telling you to keep your 3G. As you have said and many have proven a few small mods really changes the look of this car. I get it, the beak from the factory is ugly...but beyond that what's so bad?
Yes it's a big car but to be 6'1" and have someone the same height or a little taller be able to sit behind me without adjusting my seat is great. From another perspective, you can also have a rear facing car seat in the back with plenty of room in the front. Even better, the SH-AWD eliminates the "big car feel" when you're driving!
One of the things I like the most is I NEVER see modded 4G's in person. I get looks all the time and I have to think it's because people aren't used to seeing this car with work done to it.
If you are over your 3G (which looks great btw) and ready to move on I say pull the trigger on the 4G. Now I have a 6MT so maybe my opinion weighs a little less than those with 5AT but overall I think this is a great car and I love it more now than the day it was delivered.
I also couldn't agree more that pre-MMC is the way to go! Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for the input Bronco. The car seat fitting well is a good thing too - I'm sure it would fit better when rear facing in a 4G than it would the 3G.
And Silver - I'm guessing he also likes the more aggressive, angled look that the earlier models have rather than the more rounded look the recent models have.

And haha, I figured you were Mr. Bell. I wish I was talking about the letters C7 and not 4G...

We here at Heeltoe just picked up a 6MT TL-S. This car is awesome. Now, I know the 4g is awesome as well, and that there is a lot more tech and a lot more power...but there is a lot more SIZE as well. I personally feel that the 2004-08 was a sort of "peak" at Acura. In 2007 we had two AMAZING sedans and two AMAZING suvs to choose from. After 2009-12 things felt like they got a little...flabby.
I would not turn down a chance at a 6MT SH-AWD TL, but I have now a 2004 TSX, 2007 TL-S, and a 2007 MDX Sport...Best of all worlds. I don't think I'd give up two of those rides to get one 4G TL SH-AWD.

I don't think this is a reflection on the 4G.
It's more so because the 3G the OP has, has just been broken in at 60k and it has so many more miles left on it.
If someone was contemplating between buying a 3G vs 4G, as someone who has previously owned a 3G (altho not a S), there is no doubt in my mind I would recommend the 4G.

other than the looks, the 3g is garbage imho. 4g is so much better and with the right mods can look just as good if not better than the 3g. ive owned two 3gs, 07 base and 07 type-s. ive driven quite a few 4gs. sold the sold the type-s after 3 months of ownership for a 2010 RL.
Sure, the 4G "with the right mods can look just as good if not better than the 3G", but those mods aren't cheap. you'd already be paying a 2k premium over an AT 4G right off the get go and now you to have to drop several thousands more to make it look "as good". Suspension, wheels, exhaust pipes, body kits, etc ain't cheap.
If you do decide to ditch your Type S, let me know. It's quite the fantastic piece of garbage

out of a sea of people telling you to keep your 3G, Nexx is the only one who says it is garbage.

Haha, and will do. Problem is I'm also fond of my piece of garbage

If you are a CPA, you should't have made this thread. No self respecting CPA ditches a 60K mile Honda.

As a CPA, you know cars are depreciating assets. Keep your 3G and continue to build your equity.

By that logic, I should sell the 3G. I should then replace it with a 150,000 mile corolla that will get me to work and back and no maintenance costs. In fact, since we are all aware of that now, we should all sell our cars to get Point A to Point B commuter vehicles.
Obviously, we are all here because we take an interest in cars and are willing to spend a certain amount of money on the cars we enjoy. Going from my Type S to a 09-11 SH-AWD is a pretty minor change in overall vehicle price.

LOL! I'm a CPA as well and I did the exact same thing. I set up an Excel spreadsheet (which I seem to do for just about everything) when I paid off my old car to figure out what I needed to do to comfortably get into a $35k car. I strictly followed my plan and two years later I had my two credit cards paid off and little over $11k saved. Hell I even set up an amortization schedule on the loan for the TL so I could play with the up front numbers and have every penny accounted for.

haha smart people drive TL's! I wonder how many TL drivers default on their car loans compared to other drivers of cars with a similar price range

Still very much on the fence here, but I did find a 6MT local to me that I'm going to try to take for a test drive tomorrow. Its not the one, but its local. I know that I at least need to drive one before I decide on if I would be okay with another automatic of if I would only be happy in a 6 speed.

Why not have a look at this one ?

Its a 2014 with 24k on it. They have had it for sale for a month. I bet they would come down on price. Unless you don't like Silver.

Really only looking at 09-11 models as I prefer that lip kit.
Plus flying down to Florida, as nice as it sounds in this 5 degree Chicago weather, would be a very inconvenient test drive.
Just realized something tho - the 12-14 will still drive the same. That might make it a bit easier to find some to test drive...

Its a nice car either way. But to me, the six speed/AWD combo is magic.

I am surprised no one commented on the torque steer issue - I have an 08 auto TL (still feel some (although little) torque steer when pushed)) - and drove lots of manual TL's before.
Down the road (maybe in 2 years or so), I was contemplating either getting a manual TL-S or a manual SH-AWD
The problem is that I like the light feel of the TL-S more but would hate the continuous fighting with the steering in spirited driving or the occasional track use - 4G TL felt heavy when I drove it.
If Honda/Acura can/did build a 4/5-seater non-convertible V6/I6 S2000/NSX - with the 1990's government specs and regulations to keep it lightweight - yet safe!!!!!! - that would be a dream come true

Im not sure if you have driven a 6MT SH-AWD but the car does not feel heavy at all IMO, and I dont get any Torque steer either.
Comparing the two, I would say the steering is lighter on the AWD, there is virtually no torque steer (in comparison) and the shifting was a little smoother in the TLS.
They both feel equally light-ish to me.

The 12-14 models have softer lines and a more 'grown-up' look. They also come with 6 speed AT. The 09-11 models have more of an angular look, and the lip kits look more like the one you have on your 3g. The 6sp AT helps with mpgs and apparently it is quicker to 60, but I felt more torque from the 5sp.
I have a buddy with an 07 Tl-S and he loves my '12 advance, even though I like the looks of his car better. The interior is far superior and top-notch in the 4Gs, but I like the classic exterior of the 3Gs. Personally, I would keep the TL-S, you barely have any miles!

I'm leaning towards sticking with my Type S, especially for now. Its a really difficult car in terms of finding a reason to get rid of it. Just does everything I want it to, reliably, and looks good doing it.

I wanted more luxury look while maintaining performance and fun to drive -ness.
In manual form, I think anyone who has driven a 4G manual would like the drive more than the 3G Type-S. I know I did, and I lovvveed my type S.
#73
Keep the 3G... we miss ours everyday... The 4G is a nice car and much bigger... but it doesn't have the sportiness the 3g had... Erin's is an Auto FWD... and was way way to soft on susp when purchased... that's why we lowered it... it tightened up on the S Tech's to get closer to the ride of the 3g... but it's still softer than the 4g AWD we had as a loner a while back that was the roughest car I've ever driven stock... if you need more room get the 4g... if you don't keep the 3g, throw some vossens on it and the lip kit and be done...

i love the Type s from the seats to the navigation unit location to the brembo brakes to dual tone interior to the carbon fiber steering wheel to carbon fiber trim but theres something about the 4g i love my 4g shawd i didnt mind the change at all

I'd keep the TL-S...60k nothing on it...
I love my 4g TL... A few mods turns a very ugly stock car into a really good looking one IMO... (paint grill/rear boomerang, wheels, headlights, drop)
Cost/benefit wouldn't be there for me to upgrade in your situation... I went from a civic si coupe to the 4g because we had a kid and the car seat situation and trunk space made a big difference to me...
Had i not had that factor I'd have driven the Si until the wheels fell off, awesome little car.

Man that 4G is so UGLY. Look at the beak, its like a giant pelican with wheels. Do you really want people to see you riding around in a pelican ?, and look how BIG it is, its like a giant titanic boat cruising down the highway looking to smash an iceberg. If you want to trade in your beautiful 3G for a giant ugly pelican boat car go right ahead.
