Clutch & Heal Position rubbing a hole in mats

I wasn't sure what to title this thread, but anyways, the heal of my clutch foot is rubbing a hole in my all-season mats. I had the same problem in my previous Honda vehicle.

I'm wondering if maybe I'm doing something completely wrong with my clutch foot...maybe I learned the wrong way?

When I depress my clutch, my foot completely pivots on my heal. I do not lift my heal off the floor. This is rubbing a hole in my mats and after that, my carpeting. I tried lifting my heal and using my whole leg to press the clutch but the shifting wasn't as smooth.

I feel dumb. Am I missing something here or is this just normal wear and tear? I've got less than 10k on mats.

The mats suck. My 3G tl did the same thing. If you look at the mats of some higher end cars, they have a special pad where the heel of your foot goes to reduce the wear.

Buy some WeatherTech or stock rubber mats.

I do have rubber mats. I have the TL all-weather rubber ones. It's still rubbing through.

damn dude, you still got all weather mats and its going through them? How long did that take to happen? Sounds like it might be time for new mats. My 8 year old RSX-S still using the stock carpet mats didn't even do that.

Damn really? Can you post pics? I can't believe you're rubbing a hole with your shoe through a rubber mat... I was thinking it was just the stock mats...

I wish they sold just the front driver side replacement mat.

The mats (and carpeting generally) is one area where it seems the TL (and a lot of cars I looked at really) have gone backwards. My '92 Legend had beautiful, plush, high quality carpeting and mats with a very nice look and feel. An awful lot of today's cars use a synthetic-looking, lightweight material that neither looks very good nor wears very well.

Does anyone know of an aftermarket mat (carpeted) that is a higher quality than OEM?

My camera is broken but I'll try to get some pics with my iphone. I paid closer attention today and I think what is happening is that I can't comletely depress the clutch by pivoting my foot. As a result my heal slides an inch forward when I press it down and backward when I let it up. That constant rubbing is making the hole in my mats.

It seems funny to be having this detailed a discussion over something this insignificant, but it's driving me nuts, haha.

How do you guys use your clutch? Does your heal touch the mat when you press the clutch or is you entire leg in the air more or less?

I press down with the clutch pedal on my toes, and then pivot on my heel to slowly let the clutch out.
