Carbon Fibre Hoods?

Burning Brakes
not that i know of. the hoods on the newer cars are so light that tere really no need for the carbon fiber hoods.
if you really want that look you can wrap the hood in some type of CF patter vinyl

The 4G hoods are aluminum and pretty light. A CF hood might be a bit lighter, but pretty expensive.
I know of no one offering CF hoods for these cars.

Yeah, I've found the hood to be pretty light as well... surprisingly light when I felt the weight of the hood... so don't know how much more effective a carbon fiber hood will be, apart from aesthetics.

I know a Fab guy can do it but not cheap. Plus not too many people who have 4G wants to spend that much money on these type of parts. Small parts like trims ya but not on these and not worth it. If you want looks then just use 3M DiNoc wraps. But if you want the real deal I can ask my friend but would need to make a mold.
Or just go to VIS Racing website and see if they have it. Im sure someone out there would have done it.

Not getting it for looks, was also looking into getting a paint match.. What does my age have anything to do with it? But thanks for the info.

There is really no weight savings by doing this and if you're going to get it paint matched your going to have to at least get the tops of the fenders painted as well so that the color will match.

Start shaving weight elsewhere.... otherwise this car isn't the car for you.

I'm a big fan of them. You've got to think that they will come out with one soon....

One of the truly stupidest idiotic "gotta have" things to ever come along since big letter "R" on the fender and huge ashcan exhausts. Whenever I see a car with a carbon fiber hood from a bit of a distance, it always looks like there must have been an engine fire and the hood got scorched (if you have seen these from more than about 6' away you know what I mean).
The only absolutely lousier look these days is the flat black paint that some folks (particularly BMW or Mercedes guys) are going for. Hey, I thought I saw a car but must be mistaken since it is stealth--oooh!
Those always look like the car is ready to be primed for painting. The ONLY time I have seen a matte painted car looking halfway decent was at the LA Auto Show where they are under special lights. Otherwise they look like s**t.

to answer your question, no. i dont believe one has been made..
but i do believe CF hoods now a days are made for older model cars with heavier hoods.
but i would consider a CF trunk if they had one..

From experience with carbon fiber parts, I'd offer the OP this advice:
1. Noise. You'll notice the lengths they go to to keep the engine noise out of the cabin...not the good engine grunt, just the road noise and all the rotational clatter. The factory hood has a huge insulated liner, and seals all the way around to reduce vibration and absorb noise. When you switch to carbon fiber, you're effectively putting a piece of acrylic in place of all this - no seals, no noise deadening, no vibration dampening.
2. Appearance. CF Hoods look good for about the first month of their outside life. Look at one after it's seen a good summer and a good winter. They fade, they chip, they disentegrate. Patching, re-coating, etc. takes forever, requires a pro, and is expensive.
3. What do you gain? On a 1974 Olds Toronado, where the hood weighs 120lbs or so, okay, I get ditching the hood for 5 pounds of plastic. Your aluminum hood might be 20% heavier than a properly layered and coated carbon fiber hood.
I agree - they LOOK sick on some cars; but not cars that get driven in the elements and with any frequency;
You can probably find a shop/specialty business that will make anything you want out of carbon fiber for you; but you'll pay some big bucks - and I would take the above into consideration before a considerable ($2500+ to have something fabricated) investment.

Steve, what color is your TL? I've found that they look best on either a dark TL or a black one.

I have an all black SH-AWD 2012. I had no intention of purchasing a CF hood at any time, I was just curious to see what it would look like. Im currently working on power gains anyways, but thanks for the input. Weight has been taken out of the back; but there really isn't anything else that I can take out which wouldn't affect comfort. Tints were done today on a side note at LA Tint, it came out nice; also saw a nice 4G TL there.

i agree, they do get beat on by the sun, and will lose their "pop" over time. that's why you reclear them every couple years. i am considering reclearing mine with a darker shade to try and bring it back to it's original color scheme. even so, i think it looks great as is.

i know this is the 4G section, but i'm with steve on this topic. i have a VIS carbon fiber hood on my NBP 3G TL-S and love it. it's not noisy, flakey, or anything like that. the finish/fit is great, and it's been out in the elements for years. it's what separates my TL from the crowd.

if your car is not race purpose.. i dont see the reason why you would need it.. cf on fwd 4doors are useless
but if your spending 500+ on a hood just for yourself to stand out.. then i guess you got your moneys worth..
again i stand by my statement.. you loose more by just talking out your spare tire..

There are is another member on the 3G side that is doing a massive NA build that has a CF hood...
Understand that Andy has built heads... and the J&R ECU... and every other bolt on to boot... NVH isn't really a concern anymore.
