Unhappy Can't Park Straight....

Hello,

I am new to this forum. For the last 5 years I was driving 04 TL, fully loaded. I loved the car. Recently, (mont ago) I purchased 09 TL SH-AWD Technology Package, certified. This might souds funny, but I can't park this car streight in the garage or between parking lines. My front is always slightly to the left. What could be the cause? Something mechanical? or my adjustment to the new car is a problem? My steering wheel is also few milimiters to the left when I drive straight. Alignment seems to be ok, the car is not pulling to left or right. Should I go back to the dealer and address tis issue, I dont want to sound like stupid...please advise.

Maybe your truck or the camera is off.

Hello Jimmy,

The camera seems to be fine. What do you mean by "truck"?

Thanks

The 09 TL's are significantly larger than the 04-08 models. Give it some time..you'll be parking straight in no time!

Do you keep your mirror switch to the right? It lowers your right side mirror to help you see while parking. Don't forget to keep an eye out behind though

Your front reference points. I sometimes pull into my garage thinking the car is pointed straight only to discover mr front is pointed slightly to the right (paying too much attention to my left fender ridge).

Treblig, All,
I do the same thing. When I pull into my garage I pay attention to the left fender. I think I am parked straight while front is slightly to the left in my case. This is so weird. As a matter of fact, the shape of the front fender in my 09 is different than in my old 04. In the garage it's make me to pull to the right to park straight. Does it happen to you guys also?

I even put blue painters tape on the wall so my wife has reference points when pulling into the garage.

I've had the same problem with mine since I got it more than a year ago. It's certainly less of an issue now, but I still routinely screw up the parking job. I never thought it would be something mechanical, more about the reference points (as others pointed out) and maybe that the waistline is higher than my previous cars. The only trick I have to offer is, when pulling into a spot normally (front first) after stopping the car I'll shift into reverse to check my alignment against the guides in the rear-view camera. Of course, that only works when the lines extend out far enough to be seen, but it can still be helpful.

You'll have it down soon enough. When I drive my father's GL450, you'd think I was drunk by the way I park it. Just not used to it.

Thank you guys for the great replies. Yes, I am getting better. I think the car reference point (left fender) is shaped to the right and that is what is misleading people. Funny, why engineers didn't think about it??? I am talking about parking front first. The steering system is also much more sensitive than in my 04 tl. I will ask next time when I visit the dealer and let you know. I hope my car is mechanically ok, it is certified!!!!! Best to all of you!!!
