Can a better deal be had?
Hi! Looking to trade in my 2010 TL SH-AWD Tech with 28K miles - manual transmission. First offer from the dealer I bought it from is $26K, but I think I whould be able to get more.
Looking at a 2012 TL SH-AWD Tech and the first offer is "invoice" at $40,818 which seems high to me.
Not having much luck finding comparables out there so I am posting this to see what peole are seeing out there.

Going to auto. I am very close to get what I owe and my downpayment with the trade in value. If I can get a good deal I am just getting a new car for the same payment. I might lease, depends. right now I have a quote for $38,943 for 2012 SH-AWD AUT Tech

You should try to aim for invoice minus any current incentives in your area, you can check at Edmunds. I'm pretty sure there is a $1500 dealer cash on the TL in most areas. As far as your trade, if you are going to lease the new one, I would sell the car privately if you don't have the tax law where you only pay tax on the difference of the new vehicle price minus trade amount. That will help recoupe the typical trade in loss if you decide to finance the new TL instead. I would aim for that kind of pricing and if they can do that, most would be happy with them just getting them out of the old vehicle cleanly and washing out what they owe.

So here's the deal. A 2012 Sh-AWD Tech has a sticker for $43,770 with a bottom line dealer cost of $37,706. That price includes the Dealer Holdback and the current Dealer incentive of $2000.00. If you finance through Honda there is also another $1200 that the dealer can ask for as a loyalty payment. So bottom line is you should be able to make an offer of $37,900 and they should be willing to take that. The $38,900 offer isn't taking to account the extra money that MAY be available to you in your area. You have to ask about that.
Now for your car. I hate to tell you this but there are a bunch of 2009 - 2011 Tl's on lots for sale right now and they don't seem to be moving very well. You have a unique car and the right person has to come along wanting just that car. With all that said the dealer should be willing to pay about $30,000 for the trade but you could lose about $1000 off that price because of the low demand for that body style at this time. This is considering that the car in in pristine condition with no wear and no reconditioning. So as you can see you are very close to the dealer cost on the new one and they are not really hitting you hard on the trade.

No, but I am looking at getting it for the best price. It will be their choice to sell it or not. They will be making money on my trade in so I am not sure why you would post something like that. Changing gears now to 2012 TL tech for $35K which seams reasonable.

an adult perspective
I guess I better take another look at my situation ... a MB dealer quoted me $19K for my 2010 SH Tech 6spd with over 73,000 miles on it ... site unseen. If these are only bringing in something in the low-mid 20's for roughly 1/3 the mileage I've got on mine ...
